Orlando Magic History

Joining the NBA in the 1989 expansion era, the Magic struggled for three years until picking center Shaquille O'Neal first in the 1992 draft. The Magic finished at .500 in the 1992–93 season, barely missing the playoffs. Then, with only a slim chance in the 1993 draft lottery, the team won the rights to pick No. 1 again. They used their selection, Chris Webber, in a trade to obtain guard Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway and future picks.

O’Neal and Hardaway led the Magic to 50 wins in the 1993–94 season and then 57 victories, as well as a trip to the NBA Finals, the following year. In the 1995–96 campaign, the Magic won a franchise-record 60 games in what would be O'Neal's last season in Orlando. They made it to the Eastern Conference finals against the Chicago Bulls.

Over the next 10 years, the Magic made the playoffs five times under the leadership of coach Doc Rivers and Hall of Fame guard Tracy McGrady, who earned two scoring titles and the 2001 Most Improved Player award during his tenure. The 2006–07 season saw Orlando start a run of six consecutive postseason appearances, as star center Dwight Howard blossomed and the Magic surrounded him with young talent and savvy veterans.

The Magic reached the second round of the playoffs in 2008 behind Howard and forwards Hidayet "Hedo" Türkoğlu and Rashard Lewis. The following season, with trade acquisition Rafer Alston filling in for injured point guard Jameer Nelson and sharpshooter J.J. Redick taking on a more prominent role, the team won 59 games and defeated the Philadelphia 76ers, the Boston Celtics and the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs. It earned the Magic a second trip to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Following Howard’s trade to the Lakers in 2012, the Magic began a decade-long rebuilding process while developing notable talents like Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vučević. The Magic’s luck seemed to improve after reaching playoff contention once again in 2019 and 2020, and landing top draft picks such as Mo Bamba, Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner, and 2023 Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero.

  • Lit Magic Game

by Wilson on 4/30/24Kia Center - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

This Orlando Magic game was lit. It was fun even watching from nosebleed seats. The tickets were pricy but well worth it because it’s a playoff game, and at least I was able to get a T shirt out of it too. The crowd was energetic. I would like to come back for another Orlando Magic game for the next round of playoffs

  • Orlando magic, playoff game 3 review

by Some guy on 4/28/24Kia Center - OrlandoRating: 4 out of 5

Overall a great experience. Game and total experience was very good. Staff was nice, the place was clean, and had a lot of energy. -1 star for the horrible pretzel I had at the beginning of the game and that they had run out of souvenir cups before the game had even started.

  • Food prices

by Fan on 4/28/24Kia Center - OrlandoRating: 4 out of 5

Great atmosphere in the arena, however not family friendly for food The good for a family of 4 with 2 of them kids costs as much as a ticket and the good is not fresh I don’t mind paying a price for quality food but not pay a price for less than mediocre food at best.

  • Great Arena

    by Brookej216 on 4/28/24Kia Center - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

Flew in for the playoffs. Let me start by saying everyone there was so nice and helpful. We were greated with smiley faces and were treated like the home team. The arena itself was very clean had lots of food Venus to choose from and staff was very friendly. The seating was very comfortable and the ushers were very helpful in helping us to our seats. We will be back for another even with no hesitation.

  • Bitter-Sweet

by Kimberly Williams on 4/22/24Kia Center - OrlandoRating: 4 out of 5

Recently on 4.14.2024, my son and I took my father to the last season game for the Orlando Magic and Fan Appreciation Day. My father isn’t 100% mobile and requires a scooter to move around. I had a very difficult time purchasing tickets online for this event because there were extremely limited options for handicapped seating and there was repeatedly no answer when calling the box office for assistance. I finally purchased three tickets in Section 109A that I thought would work best for my dad; however, when we arrived, I realized that there were additional steps that he would have to climb before taking steps to go down to our seats and there was also no mention anywhere on the website of having to park or store handicap equipment with guest services in Section 112. I want to point out that the attendant checking tickets at this section was amazing. She suggested that I go to the box office and see if any handicapped accommodations could be made. My dad and son went and purchased food while I went down to the box office. The attendant there was equally amazing. I showed her my current tickets and explained my situation. She asked me a few security questions and then provided me with a seating change. The change in seating was to Section 115 in a completely handicapped-accessible section that allowed my father to stay in his scooter the entire time. This section on your website does not show as handicapped nor did it show as available when I purchased tickets, yet it was empty during the game. Everything worked out and my father had a great time. I unfortunately didn’t get either attendant's name, but they were both extremely helpful and their customer service was incredible; however, although everything worked out for us at this event, I do want to point out that I don’t feel like your website is very accommodating to people with handicaps and need assistance. I’m hopeful that this may provide some feedback for a review of how this can be improved for future events. Thank you for your time.

We had a great night, the basketball was so fast pace and enjoyable. The atmosphere was brilliant, the kiddies especially loved it! We parked at Geico garage and getting in was easy and we got straight out at the end which was remarkable given the amount of people. Overall a great night had by all 😊🏀

The experience was awesome and gold parking was at the front door literally. It was an ease getting in and out the event and seating in section 232 row 1 was great. Will definitely be gold parking every game we attend when visiting the Kia stadium in Orlando. I’m a 76’ers fan and wore my hoodie and I must say the Orlando fans are some great people. It was alll love. Thumbs up Orlando Florida.

  • What a great time!

by Natedawg on 4/4/24Kia Center - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

My first NBA game. The atmosphere was electric. It was a close game that went down to the wire in a 109-107 Sacramento win. Concessions were expensive, but I guess that is to be expected.
