Orlando Magic History

Joining the NBA in the 1989 expansion era, the Magic struggled for three years until picking center Shaquille O'Neal first in the 1992 draft. The Magic finished at .500 in the 1992–93 season, barely missing the playoffs. Then, with only a slim chance in the 1993 draft lottery, the team won the rights to pick No. 1 again. They used their selection, Chris Webber, in a trade to obtain guard Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway and future picks.

O’Neal and Hardaway led the Magic to 50 wins in the 1993–94 season and then 57 victories, as well as a trip to the NBA Finals, the following year. In the 1995–96 campaign, the Magic won a franchise-record 60 games in what would be O'Neal's last season in Orlando. They made it to the Eastern Conference finals against the Chicago Bulls.

Over the next 10 years, the Magic made the playoffs five times under the leadership of coach Doc Rivers and Hall of Fame guard Tracy McGrady, who earned two scoring titles and the 2001 Most Improved Player award during his tenure. The 2006–07 season saw Orlando start a run of six consecutive postseason appearances, as star center Dwight Howard blossomed and the Magic surrounded him with young talent and savvy veterans.

The Magic reached the second round of the playoffs in 2008 behind Howard and forwards Hidayet "Hedo" Türkoğlu and Rashard Lewis. The following season, with trade acquisition Rafer Alston filling in for injured point guard Jameer Nelson and sharpshooter J.J. Redick taking on a more prominent role, the team won 59 games and defeated the Philadelphia 76ers, the Boston Celtics and the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs. It earned the Magic a second trip to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Following Howard’s trade to the Lakers in 2012, the Magic began a decade-long rebuilding process while developing notable talents like Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vučević. The Magic’s luck seemed to improve after reaching playoff contention once again in 2019 and 2020, and landing top draft picks such as Mo Bamba, Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner, and 2023 Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero.

  • Ticket Owner Annoying

by Dave Jones on 12/4/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 3 out of 5

I purchased a single ticket for an Orlando Magic game while in town on a work trip. The purchase process was very simple and convenient. Shortly after arriving to my seat, the ticket owner arrived and occupied the seat next to me. She seemed very nice at first. However, as the game ensued, she became increasingly annoying. I am not a fan of either team playing, so I simply cheered for good plays, including dunks by the other team. Any time I expressed excitement or enthusiasm for Denver, she verbally encouraged me to stop. This continued for the first half — I left at halftime.

  • Fun for the family

    by Candice B on 12/4/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

We surprised our kids with Tickets since my son loves the Magic. We had an amazing time. All staff were super friendly and helpful. We parked in the VIP Gold Lot which is the best place to park. You are literally next to the entrance. The kids had a great time experiencing their first NBA game.

Half time of the game and beer was sold out in some places. I wasted almost 20 min to grab a drink. Long lines suck!!!

  • Fantastic experience

by Joel on 11/28/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

Everything about the experience was great. The purchasing process was fast and efficient. The only part I didn't like was I did not know my exact seat number until it was time for payment (it did display section and row however). Use of the Apple wallet made the process that much more smooth. The game was great. Absolutely no real complaints!

  • Exceptional experience.

    by S. C. on 11/16/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

Thank you thank you thank you to the Orlando Magic Staff. My family had an exceptional time attending the game. We purchased seats not realizing that we more than likely would be bringing my father's wheelchair. My father has Parkinson's Disease, Stage 2. Your staff and team assisted us with trading out our seats and making sure we were set and comfortable. I really really appreciate it. Things like that make me want to come back. We didn't have the most expensive seats but I felt as though we were really being taken care of. As a military veteran and caregiver to my dad, I appreciate it alot because things can get really challenging.

  • Thankfully, I had a club seat or this would be one star

by Minnesota Parrothead on 11/15/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 3 out of 5

I went to the Orlando Magic vs Brooklyn Nets game. Getting parked was the easiest part. If you can get a spot at the Geico garage, do it. The concessions were pretty standard concession fare. There weren't a lot of options that weren't typical. I had some chicken tenders that were well executed. If you're going to force me to drink Pepsi products, please have Diet Mountain Dew Available! I sat in a comfortable club seat. I liked easy access to the restrooms. I went downstairs to check out the main concourse and it was tight. The lines didn't appear to be moving very fast. I didn't see a whole lot of options either. The game itself was a blowout and there's a trend over the last few years in the NBA that I just don't care for: noise. There is loud music in the middle of the game even as the teams are moving the ball up the floor. It's a bit jarring to experience this live. I should have asked for ear plugs. This was an okay experience but not a great one.
