Orlando Magic History

Joining the NBA in the 1989 expansion era, the Magic struggled for three years until picking center Shaquille O'Neal first in the 1992 draft. The Magic finished at .500 in the 1992–93 season, barely missing the playoffs. Then, with only a slim chance in the 1993 draft lottery, the team won the rights to pick No. 1 again. They used their selection, Chris Webber, in a trade to obtain guard Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway and future picks.

O’Neal and Hardaway led the Magic to 50 wins in the 1993–94 season and then 57 victories, as well as a trip to the NBA Finals, the following year. In the 1995–96 campaign, the Magic won a franchise-record 60 games in what would be O'Neal's last season in Orlando. They made it to the Eastern Conference finals against the Chicago Bulls.

Over the next 10 years, the Magic made the playoffs five times under the leadership of coach Doc Rivers and Hall of Fame guard Tracy McGrady, who earned two scoring titles and the 2001 Most Improved Player award during his tenure. The 2006–07 season saw Orlando start a run of six consecutive postseason appearances, as star center Dwight Howard blossomed and the Magic surrounded him with young talent and savvy veterans.

The Magic reached the second round of the playoffs in 2008 behind Howard and forwards Hidayet "Hedo" Türkoğlu and Rashard Lewis. The following season, with trade acquisition Rafer Alston filling in for injured point guard Jameer Nelson and sharpshooter J.J. Redick taking on a more prominent role, the team won 59 games and defeated the Philadelphia 76ers, the Boston Celtics and the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs. It earned the Magic a second trip to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Following Howard’s trade to the Lakers in 2012, the Magic began a decade-long rebuilding process while developing notable talents like Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vučević. The Magic’s luck seemed to improve after reaching playoff contention once again in 2019 and 2020, and landing top draft picks such as Mo Bamba, Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner, and 2023 Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero.

I took my 10 years old nephew to watch an Orlando Magic game and we had a great time there! Very friendly staff, many options of food, merchandise and clean bathrooms. Our experience was even better because OM won the game!

  • Bumbag

by Irina on 11/8/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 4 out of 5

I'm impressed with overall organization and facilities. However, I was deeply disappointed that I had to pay extra 10 USD for storage of my tiny bumbag.

Once in a lifetime the family loved it. Usually we buy regular seats but this time I wanted to be a little bit fancy and purchase the legends A side, I think that I will sit in that side for everything for the rest of my life

The Orlando magic organization did an xcellent job entertaining the crowd between quarters and time outs. They created an awesome atmosphere for a professional basketball game.

  • It was an overall good time.

by Vee on 10/25/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 3 out of 5

It was a great time except for my seats. Im a fairly tall guy, at 6ft 5 inches tall. My legs were cramped and hurti g so bad due to no leg room. I ended up having to constantly stand, and eventually moved an empty seat behind us so that i could stretch my legs sideways. Other than that it was a great experience, easy to get in and out of the AM Center with no problems. Parking was a breeze also.

  • Frustrating

by Mere on 10/25/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 2 out of 5

I went into this event looking forward to watching the magic but all I got was ridiculousness after ridiculousness. It doesn’t make sense that I am not allowed to bring in a bag. My bag was barely larger than the stupid paper you have as reference. Then when I am told to put my bag in a locker, there are no lockers available. Instead my purse is put into a bin with many other purses. Is this bag policy supposed to limit germs? Yet you said a negative COVID test or vaccination proof would be required yet nobody was checked or asked for that. So how is not allowing my bag in helping limit germs. Horrible experience overall at the amway.

  • Loved it!

  • Confusing Covid Requirements

by Shecxx on 10/25/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 2 out of 5

Covid 19 requirements confusion. Causing delay because I had to go to urgent care to get a test - which was never a requirement at the stadium. Missed the entire first quarter.

  • Great Game!

Great game, clean, safe environment with a lot of excitement for live sports!!!

  • Unfair treatment

by Amer Marrero on 10/16/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 2 out of 5

First of all, I understand that there are rules. You guys have a new rule about fanny packs/bags. Mine was off because of the straps, trust me, it was not big at all. I spent $250 on preseason tickets to have fun and ended up having to throw away my "bag". Later we see someone with a baby and a full on backpack, just think is VERY unfair that my bag didn't go trough maybe by an inch, but someone can get in a full backpack because of x or y reason. I don't feel like I'll be spending more money like that after this. Very sorry, maybe to whoever read this I'm just an unhappy fan but I will spread the voice. Luckily it was a great game after all.

  • Food menu

by Taylor on 10/16/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 2 out of 5

The game was great but as for the food $21 for a burger and fries. Bun is cold, burger was maybe 4oz. The cheese wasn’t even melted on the sandwich. Fries were soggy. Did I mention I sat in your “club section”. Any other stadium or arena in the US would blow this out of the water. Y’all need to really rethink your menu options.

  • Awesome

  • Magic fan

by Pistons fan on 2/24/21Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

We were very pleased with the way that the game was run. It was extremely easy to get the health screening and enter the game with no hiccups. Event itself was very enjoyable despite having limited attendance for fans. We would go again in a heartbeat. The only piece of advice I could possibly offer is, “maybe they could infuse artificial crowd noise to give the appearance that it is a packed arena.” This would provide an even more exciting environment
