My family really enjoyed this! The cast was adorable!
Scott Greer was wonderful as Bumble. We also admired the performance of Kelley Faulkner as Nancy. RJ Fattori (Artful Dodger) has an amazing voice! Rob McClure did a great job in the small role of Noah. Very good work by the actors in the ensemble. Beautiful sets.
The show was delightful! The actors were very talented - strong voices, wonderful expressions. They captured the essence of this classic show. Having said that, there was one disappointment in the cast. Sam Preston, as Oliver, was not a good casting choice. His voice was weak, his acting was poor and he seemed awkward with his role. He's an adorable young boy, but the other child actors outperformed him by miles. As the title character I was, quite honestly, shocked at his weak performance. I hesitated to comment on this because I'm uncomfortable criticizing a child, but the poor portrayal of Oliver was distracting from an otherwise wonderful cast and show. With that said, I would still recommend seeing it.
fagin, artful dodger, and nancy<substitute> were showstoppers
Enjoyed most of the characterizations especially Fagin and the Artful Doger. Oliver on the night we went (Sunday) was rather weak in comparison. In spite of the dark nature of the story the characters brought a joyousness, humor and color to the show.
It is a very enjoyable show and well done. Go see it.
The cast of Oliver! did a fabulous job and was an exceptional addition to our Christmas holiday. It was the perfect performance for my 10 year old son to see as his first theatre experience. I would recommend Oliver! to anyone who was thinking of seeing it before it left the Walnut St. Theatre. I believe the cast deserves a standing ovation!
Actor playing Oliver was very weak in acting & singing.
Fantastic show, from little kids (4 years old) to 90 all loved the show. Classic and timeless music and lyrics.
It was really amazing! One of the best shows i have ever watched.
Excellent presentation -- Great set design and lighting, wonderful cast. Hugh Panaro is a gift to Philly audiences. He was the very best Jean Valjean I'd ever seen in Les Miz (which is saying a lot, because I've seen the show a dozen times over the years) and now as Fagin in Oliver he wins over the audience again with his outstanding performance. We saw the understudy for Nancy in our viewing, and were not disappointed with her portrayal at all. The juvenile cast members all shined as well. Highly recommended for multi-generation audience.
The show was a little bit of a dissappointed. For the price I had to pay, I would have expected it to be a bit more entertaining and clever but it had nothing of that. I think I missed 15 mins of it when I fell asleep.
Superb Fagin, strong Nancy, and excellent scenery and lighting. My only disappointment was the choregraphy, which seemed hackneyed and repetitive.
Oliver was wonderful and Faigan was phenomenal and entertaining!
I thought the play was well organized, the props and costumes were great. The actors did a great job even though little Oliver's singing voice was a little shaky (sounded like he was losing his voice). I recommend this play...we had a great time.
The performance was fantastic. The singing & dancing were excellent.
We drove in a blizzard to see the show and it was worth it. Even though it was not a full house, the cast put all their hearts and souls into it. Thank you for a great experience.
Oliver was very entertaining and very fun top watch. The local actor that played Fagen was incredible and gave a wonderful performance. The cast was very good at picking up the various scenes with no noticeable lag time between scenes. I highly recommend this play to people of all ages.
I went to the Oliver show on Saturday (12-19-09) during the second worse snow storm ever in Philadelphia. It was my first show and didn't have high expectations because it's not really my type of thing. I have completely changed my mind and found it to be very enterrtaining and had a wonderful time. The cast was great and mostly kids which I found to be very exciting to watch such young people perform so well. It was supposed to be a sold out show but because of the weather the theater wasn't packed at all. They were nice enough at the theater and let everyone sit wherever they wanted. That is actually the only complaint I had was that I had bought front row tickets for $70 a piece and that someone with a $10 ticket was sitting right next to me. Overall it was a great show but if I went again and they upgraded everyones seat because of the weather I would ask to speak with the theater manager about getting a discount on a future show or something.
Exellent cast and overall production - always an enjoyable show with great music!
