OLD 97'S IN CONCERT:
Alt-country pioneers the Old 97's continue to treat fans to the rollicking live shows that earned them their salt back in the mid-'90s. Featuring frontman Rhett Miller's electric vocals and a boot-stomping rhythm section, the band's performances are never short on energy, creating the perfect atmosphere for barn-burners like "Time Bomb" and "Doreen." Hot on the heels of their 2013 collaboration with country legend Waylon Jennings, the band hits the road for a 2014 tour that's sure to satisfy rock and country fans alike.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Dallas in 1993, the Old 97's existed as a popular local bar band before their 1994 debut album Hitchhike to Rhome brought them on a national tour. Their 1995 follow-up LP Wreck Your Life attracted the eye of label execs at Elektra, who signed them for 1997's Too Far to Care. Hailed as pioneers of the burgeoning alt-country scene, the band continued to record and tour, making their first appearance on the Billboard 200 in 2001 with Satellite Rides. Since then, the band's reputation has grown with each successive album, gaining an additional boost from their boisterous live shows. Back on the road in 2014, the band will treat fans to marathon sets that include cuts from their acclaimed 2013 collaboration with country giant Waylon Jennings. Over the course of their career, Old 97's have brought countless venues to capacity, like Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit.

Old 97's live in St. Louis was outstanding

The opening act, Angel White, was a pleasant surprise. We had never listened to him before and he was quite good. My only complaint is that he only performed for 30 minutes. We are recent fans of the Old 97's having only started listening to them this year. We really enjoyed 90 minutes of their hits from the last 30 years. The 90 minutes was just about a perfect set length and I can't think of any of their songs that they didn't play that I missed. The venue was nice but seating is very limited. We got there before the doors opened but my wife and I were unable to sit together in the mad rush for seats. It was mostly standing room only with probably 500-750 people and maybe 100 seats; mostly stools. Still a great show and I would go to the venue again.

There are also places to get away from the stage and sit if you prefer that. Nice drinks and tons of food options nearby. We love the Old 97’s and travel to see them. I’ve never seen them play a bad show.
Majestic Sucks

Besides being the worst sound and sight lines in Madison, I'm guessing it was way above what the Fire Inspector says is OK. Guess I'm too old, probably sell more tickets if it was at Barrymore and be a whole lot better experience for fans

This high-energy show featured a great setlist drawing from the bad's 30 year body of work. The Fillmore was packed with fans and the sound in the venue was fantastic. Caitlin Rose was a great opener and she joined the band for "Good with God". I highly recommend catching an Old 97's show whenever you get the opportunity.

The Old 97's are pretty special. The level of energy and how tight the band made the show a pleasure to listen to, but what was really special was how much they enjoyed playing their songs and playing together. They are a not to be missed show and that night they made a fan out of me.

We had never heard of Caitlin Rose but she was an absolute delight.I even bought her CD and she kindly gave me a hug. Then out came the Old 97's. We have seen them several times but they just rocked the house. By the time they finished their set and encore we were exhausted. The good people at the Fillmore treated us royally. Great night, great time.
