Ohio State Buckeyes Men's Basketball History

Ohio State first fielded a basketball team in 1898 and played its games through 1919 at an on-campus building known as the Armory. In 1912, the Buckeyes joined the Big Nine conference. Four years later, the league was rechristened as the Big Ten, its current name.

Over the years, Ohio State has been guided to success by several notable coaches, including Fred Taylor, who helmed the team between 1959 and 1976, and Jim O'Brien, whose tenure stretched from the late '90s to the early '00s. Future NBA greats (and Basketball Hall of Famers) John Havlicek and Jerry Lucas, as well as 2010 Naismith College Player of the Year Evan Turner, have also passed through the program. The Buckeyes' main competitors tend to be their fellow Big Ten members, although their biggest rival is the Michigan Wolverines.

Currently coached by Chris Holtmann, who took over in the 2017-'18 season, the Columbus-based Buckeyes have made 11 appearances in the NCAA Final Four, winning the championship in 1960 and taking home two NIT championships, in 1986 and 2008.

Appropriately, the school boasts a vocal, robust student fan base that cheers on the team in a section known as the Buckeye NutHouse.

    The Schottenstein family experience

by BJJ on 3/26/24Schottenstein Center - Columbus

I highly recommend the Schottenstein centnter for any event. Today was particulary special because I was able to bring my 2.5 year old to his first Buckeye basketball game. The staff was beyond friendly, inclduing the stand that sold us the soft pretzel, which my son dropped and with no hesitation gave us another one at no charge. The usher offered headphones when they saw my son get antsy when the crowd noise increased. I also found the areana extremely clean. Highly recommend visisting the Schott.

Great experience except soft drink prices

    by machead53 on 3/22/24Schottenstein Center - Columbus

Everything was great, but $9 a cup is ridicules, the women's basketball game soft drink price was reasonable.

Lower NIT Ticket Prices for greater attendance

by PB on 3/22/24Schottenstein Center - Columbus

Lower Ticket prices to get more loyal fans to come out and support the Buckeyes. Parking should not be 15 dollars for an NIT game.

    Good win!

by JDG on 3/22/24Schottenstein Center - Columbus

Good game and win! Our concern is that the PA and announcer are too loud and overwhelming. We can’t even talk to each other during the announcements because it is so loud. We don’t need to be “entertained” in every moment in the Schott. We bought tickets for a basketball game, not a WWE event. Tone it fown, please.

    Bad organization

by PM on 2/25/24Schottenstein Center - Columbus

On a clear, no precipitation day, Ohio State had a completely disorganized arrangement for parking. It took over 45 minutes to get from the highway exit to the parking and 15 minutes to get to the venue. And it was the 14th home game of the season. No excuse for treating fans so poorly.

    Wow

by Alison M. on 2/21/24Schottenstein Center - Columbus

Great game. Biggest upset of the year. The game kept the kids attention as well as between time outs and quarters. Seats were center court so they were great.

by BC on 2/21/24Schottenstein Center - Columbus

It reminded me of an NBA stadium and crowd for a non playoff non rivalry game. OSU pulled the upset but until the court was stormed the place was incredibly quiet

    Obstructed view

by HB on 2/21/24Schottenstein Center - Columbus

Bought 4 tickets for what I thought was a great price. It ended up having a railing that obstructed the view of half the court and an usher that enjoyed standing at the rail during every break of the game obstructing the entire court. We would have been better spending less on nose bleed seats with a better view.

Huge advocate for Ticketmaster being your source for all OSU men's basketball games. I've also had great luck with Bluejackets games as well. Will continue to use when booking sporting events!
