    Ohio Players and SOS Band

by jhammaster on 7/26/09Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

The show was stopped 2 1/2 songs into the SOS Band set due to lightning. The taste of the SOS Band we did here was OFF DA CHAIN!!! Even after they shut down the electric instruments, the lead singer and the drummer kept pace to end a song (they should add that version on a live album). The opening act whose name I can't remember, was a band that called itself the James Brown Review. They were on it from the down beat to the funky trombone play. If anyone can remember the name of the band...they are worth seeing. They were waiting for the storm to pass after one hour and at 9:45pm I and know music from the Ohio Players, I called it a night.

    Disappointed concert was cancelled

by Rosalind on 7/26/09Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

How can you review a concert that didn't happen. The show did not start on time, and when it did they let a group come on that wasn't even advertised to play. We got to see the James Brown band play their entire set. The park service stopped the concert because of lightening. If they had let the SOS Band come on instead, we might have gotten a chance to see the Ohio Players. SOS was cut off during the 2nd song. This was the first time I experienced a rained out concert which I didn't mind but the decision to let a band play that wasn't on the bill was a poor decision on the concert promoter's decision.

    Ohio Players/SOS Band

by BigSmooth858 on 7/26/09Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

The concert was forgetable. The SOS Band played a partial set that was shortened by rain. The Ohio Players were decent, but played a shortened set as well. It rained all night, and i felt cheated at the end of the concert.

Many times disappointed at Carter Barron

by bigbj on 7/26/09Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

The outdoor concert was cancelled in the middle of the second act.due to lightning. There's nothing we can do about that. Again, however, the sound engineers at this venue failed to deliver. The sound quality of the first act was flawless. However, the beginning of the second act suffered as mics weren't working, and channel distribution was not equalized. How frustrating it must be for a band to play through these conditions. The Carter Barron is a lovely amphitheater, but the sound technicians are truly not to the level that I could recommend. If they could stop putting emphasis on taped music during band switches, and focus more on live quality, this could be a five-star concert pavilion. But right now, if you're not the first band, watch out - the Barron technicians will truly mess up your sound.

    Ohio Players still have it!!

by Ron4life on 7/26/09Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

Good show -- what little I could enjoy. The rain cancelled the SOS performance with the exception of one song. Had to wait an hour before the rain and lightening let up, then the Ohio Players performed. They were very good. However, they had limited time to play, so they weren't able to play all of their hits. I jammed to their hits, "Rollercoaster" and "Fire." Disappointed they didn't have time to perform, "Sweet Sticky Thing."

    Ohio Players were fierce!

by Marrrrrr on 7/26/09Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

The Ohio Players as well as the S.O.S. Band and The James Brown Experience were awesome! Even though it rained off and on the show was cut short with the S.O.S. Band but it was an event in which I was happy that I attended. The Carter Baron Amphitheatre is so nice and comfortable. I've been going there since the 1970's and it is still an welcoming venue for any entertainer. Can't wait to see Boney James on August 21st there.

    Ohio Players

by Joann420 on 7/26/09Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

It was a big disappointment. We never got to see them. The concert was called since we saw lightening. We saw the experience band and 1 1/2 songs from SOS band. It would be nice to get a refund or have the show rescheduled.

    The Rain jacked us!

by LUNUPE on 7/26/09Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

This was the concert I was looking forward to all summer and it RAINED! I wanted to see the SOS band so bad! The Ohio Players are not the same without "Sugarfoot" so they were just ok.

    RAIN or shine

by BoomShaka on 7/26/09Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

James Brown Experience was the highlight because they got a full set and had the crowd on their feet the whole way. SOS got into 2 songs before the plug was pulled due to lightening, they weren't quite as strong, perhaps they were building up to something, but we'll never know. An hour later and much to the distress of the crowd who demanded the music as it said on the ticket, "Rain or Shine", Ohio Players finally got down to it w/ Skin Tight. Way too much talking by the band for a shortened 50 min set that didn't get too funky until the real crowd pleaser RollerCoaster. There were sound mix problems all thru the night but the FOH guy finally dialed it in on the last tune FIRE as the bass and horns got the blend they deserved. The song ended the band bolted, no FLASHLIGHT, just House Lights and good night to the soaked crowd. Unfortunately, this show will be remembered for the rain kabosh that prevented everyone from getting truely funkified. Hopefully OP will be back soon to make up for it.
