  • Dave Chappelle still has it!

by Rolander on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 5 out of 5

Best comedian festival show by far! All the comedians brought the best out of them.

  • Great until Chappelle

by Anonymous on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 2 out of 5

All of the opening acts were great. Unfortunately, Chappelle is either too apathetic or just out of practice to be worth seeing right now. He started late, and quit his set short and early. Of the 30 minutes or so he did, he only spent about half on material, and spent the other half stuttering "ummmm" like he lost his place and screwing around with his entourage for a bizarrely unfunny birthday celebration.

  • Not worth the money right now, maybe later...

by Dannylaw on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 2 out of 5

The first half of the show was great, as the the tight 15 minutes sets by the openers were all action (Hannibal Burris and Demitri Martin especially killed). However, these guys weren't advertised as 15 minute sets, which would surprise most considering all of them have done 1-hour televised specials in the past. The headliners were both peaks and valleys, as they both seem to be working a LOT of stage rust off right now. Flight of the Conchords (FOTC) played some new stuff mixed in with their old material. However, due to the horrible acoustics of the place, I could barely or not understand what they said about a quarter of the time. Chappelle slayed the first 20 minutes of his act, but kinda lost his way after that, pausing several times allowing jack-asses to start yelling in their requests (often) for Rick James impersonations. We lost 20 minutes of his 1 hour set to festivities surrounding his birthday. I'm all for bringing the man his cake and singing him happy birthday, but add some time for his complete set. He was the reason a lot of people bought tickets, and we only got about 30-35 minutes of his act! To top it off, the Woodlands Pavilion is one of the most horribly planned venues I have ever been to. We couldn't go to our seats until an hour after the gates opened (why?), where charged extra for covered seating that didn't cover us from the 100 degree sun at all (and had an obstructed view), and then all 15,000 attendees had to go across the ONE EXISTING BRIDGE to the parking lots. This was my one and only visit to this venue.

  • Chappelle/Oddball Comedy Tour

by MoJo57TX on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 4 out of 5

Most acts were very good, emcee Godfrey was the best after Chappelle. Female comic, Christine needs some better material. We were disappointed that Chappelle only stayed on stage for a few minutes, only about three jokes. While it was nice of his friends to surprise him with the birthday cake, the act suffered. Over all, a good show. October would've been a better choice of month, too hot in August in Houston!

Dave Chappelle was definitely a disappointment in Houston to say the least. Others in the show were far more entertaining, especially the host. Flight of the Conchords overplayed too.

  • FOTC were great, Dave Chappelle not so much.

by METEROROID on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 4 out of 5

It was a lot of fun with a lot of funny people. I was excited to see Dave Chappelle, but was mainly going to see Flight of the Conchords. FOTC were great and so were all of the opening acts, but Dave Chappelle really didn't bring it. It was pretty obvious Chappelle had no material prepared and he seemed to be making stuff up to past time. He did say some funny jokes, but overall Chappelle was a big let down. However, the show was fun and everybody else really brought their game.

  • everyone funny but the headliners

by tujuggernaut on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 4 out of 5

Everyone on this tour was funny except the headliners, Flight of the Conchords and Dave Chappelle. I really expected more jokes from Dave and a longer set; this was a disappointment. I didn't really except Flight of the Conchords to be funny they weren't really, but that's at least up to expectations. I expected Dave Chappelle to kill it but he really only told about 4 jokes.

  • So funny I could die laughing

by wherewereyou on 8/27/13Austin360Amphitheater - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

The Austin 360 Amphitheater venue was awesome as was the Funny or Die Fest. I had the time of my life and would definitely recommend it to anyone with a sense of humor and a sense of wonder. Wish that I could do it all again tomorrow! It's all me and my friends have been talking about for the past few days. Dave Chappelle is amazing.

On an extremely hot sunny day, the advertised gate opening time was 5pm. No other times were made available (seating time, show start time). We could not go to our seats until 6:30; the show started around 7:30; and the heat and searing sun made it all very uncomfortable. The show was equally disappointing. Two comedians were laugh out loud funny (Hannibal Buress and Al Madrigal) while everyone else was mediocre...including Dave Chappelle. Chappelle appears to be still working out some demons and is not back into the standup groove as he allowed hecklers to guide the direction of his show.

  • Too damn expensive, long, loud and obnoxious

by LibraNOLA on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 2 out of 5

I was thrilled to see some long-lost acts like Dimitri Martin (loved his old show), Flight of the Conchords (ditto) and Dave Chapelle (whom I only knew through YouTube clips). But g*dd*mn... who sets up these shows? We only got about 3 solid jokes out of Chapelle at the end of a 5-hour event -- he was so drunk and/or baked (it was his birthday, and half the set was wasted by his crew hauling out a cake, etc.), that his material suffered. It was almost like he wasn't sure he wanted even to be on stage. That explains why the second-from-last act, Flight of the Conchords, hammed it up extra long, even though the crowd did not seem to resonate with their schtick quite as much. Dimitri Martin, always a pro, nailed it, and had us all laughing hysterically ... lo and behold, his segment was the only one not accompanied by OVERLY LOUD MUSIC, a recurring theme that (for me) really wrecked the rest of the show. That, and the relentless advertising and un-funny gag reels we were forced to watch before the event and during intermission. My eardrums were shredded by evening's end, particularly by the gratuitous yelling/cursing of the emcee and several rap music interludes throughout. Give me a break. Learn how much damage this does to human hearing!! The venue itself was hot as an oven (many of the performers commented on this fact), especially when the Houston sun bore down on the crowd. Ceiling fans were useless.

awesome show, great comedians, fair price. good times

  • Ughhhh....

by 2005JettaGLI on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 1 out of 5

SO not worth sitting in the heat and nor worth the ticket price. Chappelle was on stage less then an hour and spent most of the time talking about the money he walked away from... Flight of the Conchords, were ok but they seemed to DRAG on! Godfrey & Demetri Martin STOLE the show in Houston, they were by far the funniest on the tour!!!

  • Good to see Dave Chapelle back at it.

by lat2albert on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 4 out of 5

Good overall except for the group who was on for an hour before Dave Chapelle they weren't that good. Only 2 of the opening acts and Godfrey were good could have done without the 1st 2 acts. Felt his stand up was way 2 short but good overall. Need better location leaving the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion was a mess.

  • by Anonymous on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 2 out of 5

This show was not even close to expectations! Only a few chuckles. Not a laugh for Dave Chappell.

  • by Anonymous on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 2 out of 5

Its okay.....could have been better. It chappelle's birthday so I think he cut his set short.

  • by Anonymous on 8/27/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 3 out of 5

It was okay, I would prefer to not go to such an event ever again. It was not worth $155.00 for 2 tickets.

  • Oddball comedy tour

by BrownsugarC on 8/27/13Austin360Amphitheater - AustinRating: 4 out of 5

I thought most of the comedians did an awesome job. I had a great time and I am so happy Dave Chappelle back to doing comedy

  • Best comedy show of the year... in Austin, TX

    by Bodacious00 on 8/27/13Austin360Amphitheater - AustinRating: 4 out of 5

I saw the show in Austin, TX and it was hilarious. Jeffrey Ross began the show by riffing on people from the audience. He's freaking hilarious. Most of the comedians brought their A material, while others kind of got by. Dave Chappelle was funny but didn't tell enough jokes. I saw the show for Jeffrey Ross and Kristen Schaal - two under rated comedians.

  • ...where were the laughs?

by YesIlovecomedy on 8/27/13Austin360Amphitheater - AustinRating: 3 out of 5

I was expecting to be blown away. The line up looked really good and the venue was unknown to me, but it's where Formula 1 is now held in Austin, Texas. I had high expectations, to be sure. I mean, we're talking Dave Chappell. I did like his set but I wasn't rolling around or screaming with laughter and neither was anyone else. The Flight of the Conchords also brought just their "B" game. I've actually seen them in their own show years ago in Dallas and it was AWESOME, my cheeks hurt from laughing. Kristen Schaal was really good, but her set was WAY too short! And Hannibal Buress was also hilarious but HIS set was too short too! I could have gone without Demitri Martin, I know he's dry but damn, it was like the Sahara. I give the whole thing a B.

  • Oddball was Great! until Chappelle got on stage

by PhillipOMGNAME on 8/27/13Austin360Amphitheater - AustinRating: 4 out of 5

Jeff Ross!! I did not see that one coming. Hannibal Burress was hilarious!! Best comic of the show. Flight had some new tricks up their sleeves. But Dave, man, I don't know.... I feel as though the front audience wouldn't stop heckling him, which kept his mind off the real stories he wanted to tell. If you have a good seat for this show, shut up and listen.
