I loved the comedy festival. There were a lot of comedians there and I had a great time.

Great Time!
by MonaLisa04 on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 4 out of 5Overall show was great! Just wish Dave Chappelle was performing longer, seemed too short.

The show was hilarious. I was a little upset that some of the comedians on the website were not at the venue (Jim Jeffries and John Mulaney), but the show was great. Flight of the Concords was fairly disappointing and I found myself wishing they had a much shorter set.
Dave complained and Concords suck!
by Darknluvlie on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 1 out of 5Godfrey and the initial comics did a great job. The Concords stayed on entirely too long and even in the Texas heat I fell asleep on them. Dave Chappelle spent more time complaining about the heat than he did making jokes. The show was good with the exception of the Concords and Dave. I can't believe I braved the heat and obese man in the chair beside me oozing into my personal space all evening for that. And the tickets should have said the show wouldn't start until 7pm instead of listing 5pm. I spent too much money on those seats for 30 minutes of complaining.
Funny or Die Oddball Fest was hot and very unfunny
by GTheHammer on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 1 out of 5The venue was not good, particularly for comedians. We were in reserved seating, not VIP, however, i could not understand hardly anything that the Flight of the Conchords were saying or singing. I could barely understand David Chappelle and the other comedians because unless they were shouting obscenities into the mic, you could not hear them. It was a waste of time and money. In addition, it was hot as hell outside. What a shame because the venue was packed!
Funny,then it died...
by Jennjenrt on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 3 out of 5Started a little slow, hilarious Al Madrigal and Dmitri Martin. Flight of Concorde very creative but it was hard to understand a lot of the lyrics. Chappelle appeared to be stoned had no continuity in his set.
Had a great time
by AlyseNavidad on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 4 out of 5Really enjoyed Demetri Martin, Flight of the Conchords and the other comics at the Oddball Fest. Great show. Especially for the relatively low ticket price. I'd go again.
Fun Time
by ScottthePirate on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 4 out of 5Everyone was up to par for their respective type of comedy. Flight of the Conchords was awesome, even if a little low energy, but that's how they are. Dave had a good set, not great, but good. A little slower pace than back in the day, but great material for 30 or so minutes. The crowd interaction at the end derailed the show for me, and a lot of people around me noticed. I assume it is hard to keep a stadium sized venue intrigued when you are focusing on a few people up front. Overall I recommend.
not worth the money
by JRUTIAGA on 8/28/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - WoodlandsRating: 2 out of 5This was the first time going to this venue, and the place sucked. there was no close parking, you had to walk maybe 3/4 - 1 mile from parking to the event. and there is only one access from parking to venue and back, so at the end of the night there was hundreds of people tryING to cross over a bridge that is only 6 feet wide.. The place is outdoors which I already knew but did expect better ways of cooling the people other than 4 or 5 giant fans spinning slow. The show it self was ok, I like the performance of the first 3 or 4 comedians rather than the last two. The last two were the headliners and they sucked. Dave Chappelle only said 3 jokes. Spoke about the Serial rapist in Houston 10-15 minutes. Spoke about Paula Deen 5-10 minutes. Spoke about the guy in South Africa with no legs that killed his GF 10-15 minutes. This show was a waste of money.. I know I would of had a much better time at the Improv. but I have learned my lesson, for comedy I will stick with the Improv.
Great variety of comedians
by Prey007 on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 4 out of 5Nice show with a very good choice of comedians with very different styles. Lots of laughs.
Chappelle was a Letdown, Others Outshined Him
by TexasBlizzard on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 3 out of 5The main reason I (and I imagine most people) went to this show was to see Dave Chappelle doing stand-up again after his very long absence. I had read that he had been doing some shows and working on new material for a while, so I figured this would be good, and at least somewhat polished. It was anything but. There were definitely laughs, just because he's so naturally funny, but when you pay $100 for seats, you expect the headliner to bring it, and Chappelle most emphatically did not. I saw him a long time ago, in 2003, at the Comedy Cellar in New York, just fiddling around with new material for an audience of maybe 50 people. He was tired and rambling, constantly reminding us of how tired he was and generally seeming like he didn't want to be there. That's fine when you're ironing out the kinks in a few new jokes at a small club, but not at a 15,000-seat amphitheater, where your devoted fans have come to welcome you back after an extended hiatus. Over the course of 45 minutes, he repeatedly whined about show-business, the Texas heat (couldn't blame him there), and sometimes even his jokes, stopping himself in the middle of them, then continuing anyway, after he had openly declared them to be "stupid". He seemed half-engaged at best. There was a moment when he came to life and sounded like a modern day MLK, preaching about brotherhood and strutting around the stage while leading into an unexpected, and very funny, bit about Oscar Pistorius. There were other funny bits too, of course, including one on the rarity of, ejem, private moments for a family man, and the apathy regarding that subject that sets in for men of a certain age (Chappelle had turned 40 the previous night). But those moments were all too rare, and he ended very lamely with an impromptu sketch involving some members of his entourage sitting around a "campfire", with Chappelle wearing a cowboy hat borrowed from a woman in the audience, and one of his friends playing harmonica while he (Dave) tried and failed to ad-lib jokes (he even commented on not being able to come up with anything), before standing up and mumbling, "Well, I gotta go", and detailing how much he would be fined for each minute he went over the time allotted to him. Everyone knows he is an enormously talented comedian, but if the Dallas show is any indication, he is not very concerned with using that talent at the moment. For anyone familiar with the situation he endured and ultimately left behind years ago, it is easy to imagine how someone could be extremely burned out by such a stifling, paranoid environment. The fact that he was headlining this tour seemed to indicate that he had regained focus and felt ready enough to give it a try again. And the audience had goodwill to spare when bringing him out. But on only the third night of the tour, he seemed like he couldn't wait to get home, and by the end I suspect some of the audience felt the same way. He even openly admitted that this tour is a money grab, at one point sneering, "A comeback? I call this gettin' caught up on some bills." For some reason (again, I think because he's just so naturally funny, and because I wanted him to be funny) I laughed, but thinking back on that comment it became clearer to me how cynical it was, not to mention wildly unfair to his fans. There are legions of those fans, myself included, wishing him the best, hoping he can find some peace and get past all the bullshit and focus instead on his Olympian talent and let it take him where he clearly could go. The landscape has changed since he was last in the public eye. People like Louis CK and Marc Maron are doing their own thing in a big way, free from the constraints Chappelle (justifiably, I'm sure) is still railing against. He could take a cue from those guys. As it stands, he seems to be his own worst enemy. Fortunately, all of the other acts showed up with their game suits on. Though Kristen Schaal's chauvinistic blowhard character was grating (as she intended) and unfunny (as she probably did not) at times, there's no denying her heart was in it all the way, and the final bit was good enough to not want to spoil it here. Al Madrigal was hilarious, dissecting a disturbingly racist commercial for Golden Corral, and explaining how he came to find out he was a "Mexican comedian" when he was slapped on a "Refried Fridays" bill with other comedians bearing Latino names, even though his material had nothing to do with being of Mexican descent ("I wear glasses, have poor posture, and am allergic to dairy"). Hannibal Burress was probably the comedian I was looking forward to most, and he did not disappoint. Most of the talk will likely be about his very funny dissection of rap lyrics, complete with his own DJ and ballerina dancers, but I particularly enjoyed his thoughts on having to go number two on an airplane after having avoided it for "16 years". Demetri Martin was the big surprise of the night, improvising about the heat withering the vines on the walls, and the unbearable sadness of a huge ferris wheel (looming behind the Dallas Venue) that says "TEXAS", just sitting there motionless all year ("But at least they stopped it so that "TEXAS" is horizontal"). He was relaxed but fully engaged, doling out some very funny crowd work between his usual dry jokes. Flight of the Conchords delivered their usual goods, too, which is to say they were pretty dang hilarious, especially in their between-song banter. They unveiled a couple of new songs, one of which (a hilarious father and son duet) came complete with "special effects" involving the jumbo screens. My only complaint was that sometimes the lyrics were hard to understand, and perhaps that they went on a little too long. Then came Chappelle, and for a moment the crowd held its breath...
Dave was awesome, FOTC was incredible!
by gabesgotdank on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 5 out of 5So yeah, this was my first comedy show and I hyave to say that it was definitely a great start! lol. Dave was hilarious, I haven't seen him in nearly a decade other than youtube and stuff, and the flight of the concords was absolutely brilliant! I've always wanted to see them live and this was truly a great experience. The Gexa was a pretty appropriate venue for such a thing. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of people hanging out on the lawn laughing and enjoying themselves. It really made me feel good knowing that all of us in the DFW can come together even for just one night and enjoy ourselves. If anything else like this comes to the Gexa I will definitely be there and I'll be bringing my friends again! SO MUCH FUN!
Lots of hope and plenty of hype, but....
by TheRealDJ on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 2 out of 5The crowd was excited for Chappelle and FotC and the comedians leading up to them were ok..not great but Ok. No matter, FotC comes on and plays a medley of funny songs for an hour. The Dave show is to start, and it does...late. He began strong and gut-bustingly hilarious with his take on current events and his brand of observations. The last 15-20 minutes though were spent on a skit that had no meaning and no humor, with the whole show ending on a low note..no last joke, no thanks for coming out, just "I'm out". Good to see him but not worth a repeat visit.

Not funny, horrible timed set list. Comedians didn't care.
Headliners were ok
by Domsdell on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 3 out of 5Overall it was a fun event. The venue did a terrible job with its food and beverage. Waits for food were upwards of an hr in 100 degree heat bc they didn't have enough options. The comedians before flights and chappelle were all funny. Godfrey and dmitri were really good. Flights are good but they did alot of there old stuff that you can see online and chappelle didn't really have material. He just pretty much when up there on his name. Good show just not as great as I hoped
Terrible

by respiratorygirl on 8/28/13Gexa Energy Pavilion - DallasRating: 5 out of 5All Of The Acts Were Great! My Kids Loved The Side Show Act As Well. It Was Crowded, But The Venue Managed Well It Was Difficult Waiting In Line To Get Thru Security.
