Last Year Was Much Better
by ElephantsToothpaste on 9/11/16PNC Bank Arts Center - HolmdelRating: 1 out of 5The festival was okay this year. For what you paid, the line-up, the time of performances, etc, it just seemed not worth the money. I enjoyed Tom Segura, Jeff Ross, Pete Davidson, and Colin Jost, but they are all budget friendly comedians and only went on for 20 to 30 minutes a piece or less.
I found the acts around to be kind of like open mic night at a comedy club. People testing material when its a big paid event. Not the place to do that. I have a lot of respect for Tracy Morgan, but he was a buzzkill to the ambiance. He was preaching about his coma, etc, and while I feel bad for him, the venue should be about comedy, not preaching about life. It literally says comedy festival in the title. Jim Jeffries has a weird humor, but he got perverted so it got the people next to me to leave which wasn't bad either.
The sound was very muffled sitting under the awning because the speaker system is out of date at PNC. I have been to enough venues, 15 concerts so far this year alone, that I wouldn't go back to PNC anymore. Its nice for cheap local tickets when you're bored, but I prefer paying for quality music and when I drop hundreds on tickets, I want an experience.
Security was distracting. The people next to me, and older couple, kept using their phone, so security had to constantly come up to them so I couldn't hear Sebastian when I was as close as I was. Very distracting. Also, the people talked through every joke, but security did nothing about that.
Concessions were also ridiculous. I took my mom to the show to see Sebastian. I bought her wine, whiskey on the rocks for me. It was a struggle for them to switch glasses so she ended up with an undersized plastic cup, and an oversized one for me because of how they do inventory. I spend $60 on 4 drinks and I can't even get it in the right cup. For the money and disappointments, its not worth PNC anymore.
