Oddball Comedy Fest was a good time, but . . .

by TulsaOddballs on 9/26/16Gexa Energy Pavilion - Dallas

Third trip to Oddball Festival and as always we had a good time. We make the 4-5 hour drive to Dallas or last year was KC. I would say that we went into this line-up without as much expectation as the previous two. We did not know most of the comics, and Dane Cook as a headliner was not as 'new and fresh' as the previous years. Historically Oddball has had the latest 'explosive' star like Louis CK two years ago, etc. However, the slate of comics leading up to the headliner were really good, and even better than previous years. Ali Wong, Iliza Shleslnger, Tom Segura, and others all killed it as opening acts. Jeff Ross was supposed to be there, but was not. Big Jay Oakerson stepped up to MC. We really missed not seeing the Roast Master General, but Big Jay was a good fill-in. Sebastian Maniscalco performed the only PG set of the night, and while we are fans of the R-rated stuff, he had us nearly peeing our pants. Dane Cook was just ok. Funny as one would expect, but again, just not the 'flash' that we have seen in previous years from the headliners (Louis CK, Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman, Whitney Cummings). The Gexa Energy Pavilion is a good venue. Live Nation does a nice job on their website with being able to pick actual seats (Ticketmaster sucks at this!!!!), but it was a bit disheartening to buy seats within minutes of onsale time and several weeks in advance only to see literally hundreds of seats in front of us sell for half of what we paid weeks before the event. On the day of the event we could have purchased front row center seats for less than we paid to be back 12 rows and to the side. Our seats were good however. Otherwise, my only other complaint is that beverages were crazy expensive. Pints of beer were $16. I am probably just out of touch, but that seems a bit excessive. Overall we had a good time, but we will be looking much more closely at next year's line-up and I'll probably wait for tickets until last minute this time.

Sebastian is awesome - the rest are hacks

by Anonymous on 9/26/16Gexa Energy Pavilion - Dallas

First Gexa Energy Pavillion is a dump. This was a horrible for a comedy act. Sebastian Manascslco is one of the best comedians going. The guy is hilarious who can actually tell a story and make you laugh out loud. Sebastian should be the headliner. The other guys are a bunch of hacks who just say obnoxious overly sexual things to get a reaction. Not laughs but just reactions.

Odd Ball Comedy Festival was Decent!

by FunnyBunny82 on 9/25/16The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion presented by Huntsman - Woodlands

All the comedians were alright. Dane Cook got a little fat but was decent nonetheless. Tom and Sebastian were probably funnier than Cook.

    Over Priced and Over Exagrrated

by WhizNHand on 9/25/16The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion presented by Huntsman - Woodlands

I got tickets and bought good seats because I wanted to see Dane Cook... I was very disappointed. It was a low end show that gave the perception it was put together at the last minute. Some of the comics were funny but most were no better than an open mic night at a local bar. Dane only performed a set same length as all the rest (20 ish mins) and wasn't very funny... People were actually walking out during his performance with keys in hand. They used his name and past notoriety to sell tix to a below ever age show.

My wife and I truly enjoy this annual event!

by AbieBaby on 9/25/16The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion presented by Huntsman - Woodlands

Although lacking the star power of last year's tour, my wife and I and another couple that joined us had a wonderful evening of laughter. Jeff Ross was very entertaining and his ad libs both at the beginning and after intermission of the show were amazing. We have seen Sebastian Maniscalco before and his facial expressions and body contortions make his every day observances hilarious. We were mildly entertained by Dane Ross. We very much enjoyed the routines of several of the lesser known comedians. In that regard, Iliza Shlesinger was a true stand out. We hope to see her perform again soon. We have 2 daughters and she constantly reminded us of the issues and temptations that young women confront socially and regularly. Additionally, my wife totally loved Iliza's observation of what happens when a woman has too much time to prepare for a night out.

    Comedy Bomb

by Rapunzel912 on 9/18/16PNC Bank Arts Center - Holmdel

Worst comedy show - a bomb!! Only a few funny comics - Sebastian and Tom Segura were great. Two dudes from SNL were ok. Jeff Ross should have stuck with hosting - his last segment was not worth staying for. Tracy Morgan was so terrible - i think he gave up and said ok that's it I'm done. I paid a lot of money for the tickets well in advance to find out they dropped the ticket prices dramatically within days of the show. The Live Nation staff was horrendous. They made us pour our bottles of water into cups but the next aisle over no one had to do that -they were all walking in with whatever they wanted. Then the staff put all of their friends around us in the VIP section so all night they were up and down, talking, hugging each other & getting free drinks brought to them from the waitstaff. I paid for my tickets and wanted to see the show not listen to all of them talk to each other all night. They basically had older women watching the section who couldn't say a word to the mayhem going on w/staff & their friends. We had to tell them several times to be quiet. Then we moved a row back because a staff member & his friends in front of us wouldn't shut up. So then the guy goes & gets more friends to sit in the row we just left in front of us. Live Nation should be embarrassed the way it was run. We go to PNC all the time & this was the worst. Last year's show was so much better. And Oddball should have done a better job for NJ

    A pretty funny night

by CStruck on 9/15/16PNC Bank Arts Center - Holmdel

I really enjoyed the performances of Colin Jost, Pete Davidson, Tom Segura, Sebastian Maniscalco, and Jim Jefferies. Bridget Everett was pretty good. But I just felt so sorry for Tracy Morgan. So few 'real' laughs, but a lot of nervous ones. His timing is totally off, he lost his train of thought, it was pretty sad. I left before Jeff Ross came on because he makes my skin crawl.

I thought comedians were supposed to tell jokes?

by Frogs87 on 9/14/16Nikon at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

It was a snooze. The only thing that made it worth it was Michelle Wolf and the routine done by Bridget Everett. Jeff Ross was a good host. Wolf was funny with her jokes and look on life, Everett was just hilarious and memorable. We left before John Oliver came on stage, but seeing him before he would have been much funnier than the rest of the men. When did comedians start to sound like cackling stay at home women? Where was the comedy routine of jokes? If it weren't for the 2 women, I would have been asleep.

    Oddball Comedy Fest was GREAT!!!

by FrankRod on 9/14/16Nikon at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

My wife, Carol & I have not laughed that much and that hard in quite awhile. Jeff Ross was the perfect host & Sebastian Maniscalco was hilarious. You got to see it.

    Lineup didn't deliver

by Azzurri28 on 9/14/16BB&T Pavilion (Formerly Susquehanna) - Camden

I've been to all of the oddball comedy festivals and unfortunately this one was the weakest of them all. 1 or 2 of the opening acts were funny, and Sebastian took a while to get into the groove before his set was over. John Oliver doing stand up wasn't as funny as I expected, but that could just be my perspective, others could have found him hilarious. I would think if the 2 headliners were given maybe 45 minutes each, rather than 20 minutes, they would have had a better set.

    One Bad Bad Apple

by Anonymous on 9/14/16Nikon at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

Overall the show was very good. Sebastian was unbelievable!! We had no idea that it really started at 7, so we were there at 5pm,which was the time on the ticket. Made for a long time of standing around. Lots of others felt the same way. But my main complaint was that Bridget Everitt was awful. Disgusting and not funny in the least. I was embarrassed for those people that liked her. I thought she brought down the whole show. The other entertainers should be embarrassed to be part of the same show with her, she taints their names.

    Sebastian Maniscalco was hilarious!

by Marnay on 9/14/16Nikon at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

Overall the show was great. I'd never been to the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater but it was the perfect weather for an outdoor show. The seats were comfy and the staff was helpful. We laughed pretty much the whole way through!

    Would go again!

by Crystalfoxrox on 9/14/16BB&T Pavilion (Formerly Susquehanna) - Camden

I go to a lot of comedy shows throughout the year, some headliners...some unknown. This show was a good mix of people I knew and didn't...but all were great. Jeff Ross as a host was great - really tied the show together so it wasn't just like six comics coming out and doing a set. Made it cohesive.

    Sebastian stole the show

by Nuvistch on 9/13/16Nikon at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

Although it was a night of comedy the only real reason to attend was Sebastian. He was hysterically. Honest, real world humor without being raunchy and disgusting.

    Oddball

by franny60 on 9/13/16Nikon at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

I enjoyed the show, the lineup was great. Sebastian Maniscalco and John Oliver were the best of the night. It was amazing that many people did not stay for John Oliver, he was brilliant. I absolutely hated the venue. The site says the show starts at 5:15 but it did not actually start until 7 and once you are in Jones Beach Theatre-you cannot leave!! Absolutely ridiculous! The food offerings were awful, prices crazy, and the lines were ridiculous- most seemed incredibly understaffed. Last time I go to this venue.

    A little too potty mouthed

by gamma3 on 9/13/16Nikon at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

Most of the comedians seemed to rely on cursing instead of humor. John Oliver was great!!!!

    Hilarious except for the end

by Ed44 on 9/13/16Nikon at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

Jeffrey Ross rocked, especially with his roast cam. Maniscalco absolutely rocked....by far he was worth the price of admission. John Oliver...sucked!

Pretty good show, but slighted by the venue.

by Rara327 on 9/13/16Nikon at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

I found the majority of the comedians very funny, and while some were a bit raunchy for my taste they were still entertaining. We were told, though, that the show would start at 5:15pm when it actually started at 7pm. This forced everyone to buy dinner there (Jones Beach Theater), creating huge lines and nowhere to walk since we were also not allowed at our seats until 6pm. They also ran out of 2 of the vegetarian/vegan options when we asked for them, as well as a lid for our soda... If you trap everyone in your venue specifically so you can make money on food sales, make sure you at least have enough supplies...

    Only 1 funny comic

by Antmad on 9/13/16Nikon at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

Sebastian Maniscalco is only reason to see this show. He's the best comic around today. John Oliver doesn't deserve to share same stage as him. He came out last and after 5 minutes stadium started to empty out. Jeff Ross was also disappointing. All the other comics were boring. Don't waste your money. Go see Sebastian by himself. He's the best!
