  • Breathtaking show

by Nutcracker Nut on 12/18/24Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 5 out of 5

The show was everything the holiday season is about! Magic and wonder. Loved all the kids dancing so beautifully!

  • Pretty good

by Lulu on 12/18/24Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 3 out of 5

The auditorium is very nice, parking was handled well, check in was easy. The show itself was enjoyable. We could have done without the "addition"of the weird Santa 1940s dance line that completely took away from Tchaikovsky's music and the ballet experience. The Irish dance was also something that was not needed, even though I enjoyed the dance as its own, but not for The Nutcracker. They made me feel like I had stumbled into a dance recital instead of the ballet we paid to see. Next time we will probably see a more "professional"ballet and leave this show to family members of the kids who are performing.

  • Not the best we have seen.

by Oz on 12/17/24Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 3 out of 5

After going to 30+ Nutcrackers over the years this was not near the top of the best. There were many omissions in how the story was presented. Some parts didn't seem to be thought thru. We are glad we went because this is an annual event for our family so it was a good day just not the best rendition of the Nutcracker.

  • Nutcracker Ames

Nicely done fun performance using local talent. Having the performance in Stephens Auditorium is adds the the quality of the performance.

  • Fab, Professional, beauty all in the Nutcracker 2022 @ CY!

by Trish on 12/25/22Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 5 out of 5

Each year this performance, Nutcracker @ CY is so over the top in professionalism, technique and artistry, I loved the variations this year and so all inclusive of the very young to adult!! It could be Miyoko was looking down on us and gave us her blessing…and said It was very good!! Fantabulous!! Bravo!! May the tradition continue many more years. 💃💐

  • On their toes

    by J. C. on 12/14/22Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 5 out of 5

My daughter and I have been attending Nutcrackers for 15 years. This was our first in Iowa, definitely one of our favorites and ranks high with the Nutcracker at the Duluth DECC and the Russian ballet. The dancers were excellent and the costumes were beautiful. First time watching rockette dancers and Santa in the Nutcracker. So good I wanted to take out my phone and tape it!

  • Wonderful production involving a lot of dancers!

by Ria on 12/14/22Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 5 out of 5

The auditorium is very organized with many people on-hand to assist in any way needed! The parking lot attendants were all ready to make sure things went smoothly; even with a 5pm basketball 🏀 game. If possible, an area to improve would be access to women’s restrooms. ( line gets really long) Well done.

  • NO PURSES ALLOWED

by Frustrated on 12/13/22Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 2 out of 5

Unfortunately, I did not see the performance. I was told at the door that no purses or bags were allowed. I was told to return to the parking lot and leave the bag in my car, or I would not be admitted. And I was not the only one!!!! IF I would have known in advance of the policy, if it had been communicated, then I would have used my clear bag or I would not have had items with me that could not be left in the cold car. Please communicate venue policies.

  • Good Venue

by JMV on 12/13/22Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 3 out of 5

Good Venue, didn’t seem like a professional performance but maybe I expected to much. Went on a really long time too.

  • Facility and Flow

by Not a Baby Boomer on 12/14/21Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 3 out of 5

Performance was excellent! Facility needs some updating; worn carpet, old uncomfortable seats. Entrance and flow need work; get people in and spread out; maybe scan tickets at the various levels going directly into the auditorium. Improve communication of the “no bags/purses” policy. Too many people were having to take their bags back to their cars, and the gentlemen staffer was rude about it.
