    Premiere Showing in Chandler AZ

by EW on 11/8/22Chandler Center for the Arts - Chandler

It is a wonderful and engaging musical about what inspired blacks to go north, with all the delays, dangers etc. that went with it. This premiere U.S. cast of 7 people were very talented. I am very glad I attended.

    Thoroughly enjoyed this moving musical!

by I. H. on 11/8/22Chandler Center for the Arts - Chandler

While the story of this play (about enslaved people escaping and taking a dangerous journey to freedom) could be difficult, it was told in such an uplifting way through excellent acting, writing, and musical/dance performances. The stories behind the story, music, choreography and stage props (which were so creatively managed by all!), as told by the playwriter, choreographer, cast, et al, during the speak-back session after the performance, were just as inspirational as the play itself. I applaud those responsible for taking up the mantle to get this play produced and performed in sponsoring theaters and truly hope it will acquire a national tour status to provide a wider audience opportunity to experience this awesome production.

    North, the Musical Review

by Salltjo on 11/8/22Chandler Center for the Arts - Chandler

This show needs LOTS of work before it will find a home in Broadway. Songs are very weak, choreography is lame today the least. Story moves along in Act 1 and then WHAM, BANG, Thank you, it just races in Act 2 to the conclusion. Seemed the play writer got tired and just wanted it to end, as did I! In order to be a viable production, it needs a lot of work! Several.of the actors and actresses were quite good and probably will have a musical theater career but NOT in this play. I know Black Lives Matter is the rage, but the play NEEDS to have more substance. Leave the man a White man in the end and not the complicated theory of his ancestry,? It was an idiotic explanation and no "warmth" in the exchanged between he and Minnie! First play, probably OK endeavor , but she could have explained her back story to her children in a much more meaningful way. Would NOT recommend at this point!

I loved everything about this play. It was great to get a better understanding of how life was for "passengers" on the Underground Railroad. Amazing show!
