  • An Excellent Concert!

by daAmp on 3/28/11Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 4 out of 5

This was a really incredible concert that basically matched two jazz heavyweights on stage, sometimes at the same time, for a great cause. The music was energetic and upbeat and I couldn't get enough.

I attended the Night of Smooth Jazz on March 26, 2011. This concert was fantastic. All the artists were amazing. The sound system was excellent too. I haven't attended a bad concert at the Civic Center yet!

  • Great Concert

by Anonymous on 3/28/11Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best concert. Each artist turned their set out. It was like being at a private jam session between Norman Brown and Richard Elliot. Richard Elliot made love to that sax.

  • Richard Elliott was the star

by MasterMix on 3/28/11Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 4 out of 5

The concert really got into high gear once Richard Elliott appeared on stage. His energy and mastery of the Sax was what made the concert. Norman Brown was impressive and Alex Bugnon merely had a drive by performance.

  • Norman Brown Still Got It!

by TheBestGuitarMom on 9/30/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

Norman Brown, jazz guitarist, has definitely retained, and even improved his touch over the years. Master of his music, Brown delivers unforgettable performances; and this Autumn Storm performance which we saw at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia was no exception. High energy, positive vibe, very cool his daughter is singing back up. Only weak part of the show was Brenda Russell who had a great hit in the 80s but is past her vocal prime. Check it out!

  • Norman is the best!

    by Petey5059 on 9/29/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I've been fortunate to see Norman five times and his show is always the best!

  • Norman Brown Rocks!

by SLBJ on 9/29/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to the Birchmere! I look forward to attending other shows in the future. I enjoyed the intimate ambiance and the personal touch in meeting the performers. Opportunities do not occur that often where you can talk to, take pictures, embrace, and show your love to your favorite performers! I am Norman Brown's biggest fan! My screams, smiles and the electricity of the show will never be forgotten. My husband and I attended the show to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary! What an experience. Thanks Birchmere ~ please keep the top notch artists coming. We'll be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Loved Norman / Stay Clear of Brenda!

by MortG on 9/28/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

Although I totally enjoyced Norman Brown, Jessy J, and Gail Johnson, I totally DID NOT enjoy Brenda Russell. The woman still has heart, but her voice needed surgery (at least on Sunday night). It's hard not to like Norman -- he's very personable, and a great guitar player. I had seen Norman with Mindy Abair at the Birchmere last year and loved it. He found a great "second fiddle" (make that sax) with Jessy J. That girl can blow! Loved her. And Gail Johnson, as his keyboard player and musical director, was outstanding. Overall, a great concert, but Brenda left me flat.

  • Ya gotta see it

by patdublc on 9/28/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

This was a fantastic concert. I was not previously aware of Norman but found this concert listed on Jessy's website. My wife and I attended and it was 2 1/2 hours solid of kicking music. It is obvious that these performers love the stage. The energy was off the charts and each performed is so talented. Do yourself a favor and see them if you have a chance.

  • An experience

by Klasse on 9/28/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I enjoy the fantastic four of Norman Brown, Brenda Russell, Jessy J and Gail J. I also enjoyed all of the musicians and the daughter of Norman Brown and their duo. I think Norman Brown felt that his guitar was not loud enough and I think he was right because it sounded like that to me as well and the adjust was made to perfection. My first time also seeing Brenda Russell almost forgetting what she look like. It was a great experience seeing what makes Norman Brown's guitar sound so smooth.

  • Norman Brown - Autumn Storm

    by TT64 on 9/28/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 3 out of 5

Simply put, Norman Brown was masterful. He commanded the stage, the sound engineers (who needed help) and the audience. Gail J and Jessy J were good but I would be fine if Norman had solo sets. Brenda Russell was by far the weak link, although she will always be regarded as a great songwriter and performer we should just past to the later. Her voice wasn't up to par and the audience reflected that in their facial gestures. I still love her music and wish her well.
