About

Nine Inch Nails are a progressive, Grammy-winning industrial rock band composed of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Formed in Cleveland, Ohio as a solo project for singer, songwriter and producer Trent Reznor in 1988, Nine Inch Nails have released 11 studio albums, six EPs and three remix albums, starting with 1989’s Pretty Hate Machine and breakout debut singles “Down In It” and “Head Like a Hole.” For 1992’s Broken EP, NIN reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200 while its standout record “Wish” won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance. In the midst of hitting No. 2 and No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 1994’s The Downward Spiral and 1999’s The Fragile, respectively, NIN released Hot 100-charting singles “Closer” and “The Perfect Drug” and earned a second Best Metal Performance Grammy at the 1996 ceremony for “Happiness in Slavery.” Nine Inch Nails went on hiatus until the 2005 chart-topper With Teeth, then hit the Hot 100 again with singles “The Hand That Feeds” and “Only,” and later with “Survivalism" from their 2007 follow-up Year Zero. Longtime collaborator and English producer Atticus Ross became an official member of NIN in 2016, established with a trilogy of releases culminating in 2018’s Bad Witch. As composers, the duo have earned two Academy Awards, two Grammys and one Emmy. In 2020, Nine Inch Nails were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. NIN also composed the score for the 2025 film Tron: Ares.

  • NIN was amazing, as always

by Mandaleeee on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

We sat just behind the pit and the show was incredible. Street Sweeper Social club was great and I highly recommend checking out their new CD. NIN was amazing as always, and Jane's Addiction did a great job as well. I just wish the show was longer!

  • Rushed NIN/JA concert

by Memo on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 3 out of 5

No need to say too much words other than I have seen them before live and this NIN/JA concert does not even compare to previews shows. I guess if NIN would have closed the whole show instead of JA I would have gave it a 4 star rating. It was definitely a rushed concert with some cool songs like Burn and Becoming I was not expecting them. I did leave with a sense of dissapontment though.

  • Janes were Great

by Nici10 on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 4 out of 5

Lollapalooza revisited, but this time, NIN were supposed to be the Stars of the Show. Boy, was I wrong. JA blew them out of the water. What a show, took me back to their glory days, which are patently here again.

  • Jane's Addiction ruleed the night

by netttajean on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

it was increditble how Jane's Addiction fit like an old glove. once they took the stage they had the audience at their command. picking up like they had never went away. seeing Avery back on the bass was priceless

  • NIN

by NDFIGHTINIRISH on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 1 out of 5

went to show to see NIN. could care less about Janes addiction. when we got there NIN was already playing so we only got to see about 4 songs. very upset that they went on first. pretty lame. i was told that since they played the night before in arizona that NIN let Janes play second instead of going on first like they were supposed to. so i drove and hour, watched 4 songs and left to drive another hour home. overall, i was pretty upset about the whole situation, really wanted to see NIN live.

  • Jane's Addiction Rocks On

by BonDot on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

I've been a long-time fan but never got to see them live before they broke up. Heck, I would have bought tickets even if they had substitute members like they did a few years ago. But this is the original cast. They can still rock. Bass player Eric Avery and vocalist Perry Ferrell wrote most of the songs originally -- while their personality differences are notorius, this is one of the best song writing teams in rock history. Dave Navarro is a guitar God -- a one-man rock maelstrom. Stephen Perkins is rock-steady on the drums. This concert blew me away. BTW: No knocks on NIN, which I like too. But there's no doubt in my mind who the headliner is. The NIN act suffered a bit from some technical problems, and seemed short a keyboard player.

  • Who can say anything bad about Trent?

    by Pennylane32002 on 7/11/09Journal Pavilion - AlbuquerqueRating: 4 out of 5

I mean, It's NIN, what can I say? I wish Trent would've headlined it instead of coming on first for the soul purpose that lights and the show in general is just so much better at night, and everyone was very taken off guard when he came on. Jane's Addiction was good until he called us Santa Fe and that's when we decided to leave. Still love you Trent. Marry me

  • Nine inch nails was awsome

by Jmann on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 4 out of 5

The sound qulity was amazing and I enjoyed the services all around greatness

  • Two Great Performances

by Karlittas on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 4 out of 5

NIN and Jane's Addiction ar amazing and unforgettable bands. I would recommend the venue and these two bands any time. Would love to have them come back again.

  • NIN was one of best rock shows ever!

by juliecr on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

Although we didn't stay for the entirety of Jane's addiction (no one could compare after NIN) - Nine Inch Nails was ridiculously good!

  • NiN/Jane's was insane

    by Lucy0069 on 7/11/09Journal Pavilion - AlbuquerqueRating: 5 out of 5

NiN open the show and they are amazing. I have seem them in concert before, and Trent never lets his fans down. They played a long set which made you feel like you got your moneys worth. My only complaint was that they did not place closer, but the mix of old and new was awesome. Next was Jane's Addiction. If you don't love Perry you did by the end of this concert. What an amazing day with two amazing bands. What a great combination. Musically different but rocked it.

  • NIN not the same

by Rcaab4 on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 4 out of 5

Since their keyboard player left about 9 months agot NIN were not the same. I had seen them about 4 years ago and they were fantastic. This time they were just average I'm giving 4 stars beacause Jane's Addiction were fantastic. They sounded even better than I had anticpated

  • All the bands were exceptional

by Yoursh on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 4 out of 5

NIN was awesome and every song they performed was done well and with the most amazing amount of energy! There was on technical glitch, but that was fixed eventually. Jane's addiction was also awesome, and they are BOTH top notch live performers. Our one gripe was that neither band played long enough! The facility itself was very nice and a great place to see a show!

  • I hated the whole NINJA theme but it was awsome!

by adden7 on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

I was about 5 months pregnant when we went to this show, and I had never felt the baby move at the time. The NINJA show seemed to wake her up, because she hasen't stopped moving since. She (we just found out it was a girl) was dancing up a storm.... I'm not sure who enjoyed it more... Me or my babby girl!! It was amazing! Her father was just as excited as we were, so it was great all around. I would go again, no questions asked.

  • NIN/JA Rocked

by Kahuna on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome high energy show! I only wish the two sets were longer. Good times and both bands sound great.

  • NIN tour 2009 was amazing

by sweven on 7/11/09Journal Pavilion - AlbuquerqueRating: 5 out of 5

This was an amazing show!!!!! I would recommend it to everyone

  • NIN/Street Sweeper Social Club

by Gooner on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 4 out of 5

Seeing NIN perform live was unreal. I've always been a huge fan of their music as well as Tom Morello and The Coup. It's was a great show even though I thought NIN should've closed the show instead of Jane's Addiction. We heard JA put on a good show but we didn't stick around to see it. We were solely there to watch NIN and Street Sweeper Social Club. The intensity from the crowd was pretty calm and a few songs could've been better but hearing Hurt, Terrible Lie, Head Like a Hole, 1,000,000, and the instrumentals were worth it.

  • NIN and Janes

by trax on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 4 out of 5

the extra price paid to get a poster(sucked) and a t shirt.(cheapest piece of crap ever) dont make the ticket worth it..but the actual show was great

  • NIN Shakes Up Cali

by Gonzo84 on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

I couldn't believe I was on my way to yet another NIN/JA show. The night before I had seen them in Phoenix, AZ at the Cricket Wireless Pavillion, now I was onto see them in Chula Vista. I had only been to California once before, but only to San Fransisco, so this was not only a fun trip to see NIN, but also to see what southern California had to offer, since I've always heard great things. I also planned another day there, the next day after, driving up to a spot on the coast at Dana Point which offered a nice Blues Festival containing hot Blues artists like Keb Mo, Derek Trucks Band, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and B.B. King. What a weekend. I was so excited to get away from the hot desert and do something original and original this was. The whole way to Cali didn't seem all that bad, I was more worried if my car would even make it. Sometimes I had to turn off the A/C just to make sure that nothing including my car overheating would prevent me from having the time of my life. The night before was so crazy. I didn't expect NIN to be as great as they were since I saw them three times on their last tour for "Lights In the Sky," which was too epic of a tour to beat. This year held a new drummer, a four piece now and less special effects. At the Phoenix show, the party started early and by time NIN got on, I couldn't control myself anymore. I'm one of those crazy cats you see in the audience going nuts and crazy and dancing all over the place just having the time of my life. I hate just sitting there and doing nothing, I don't go to concerts to just sit there. They had played a stellar amazing setlist and was going to be hard to beat, since I thought that was THE greatest show of my life. So after a bit of driving and a lot of nervousness, I finally reach my destination in Chula Vista. This time instead of the Cricket Wireless Pavillions, I was now at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre. I sat out in my car drinking some beers and getting prepared. Street Sweeper Social Club was the opening band featuring Tom Morrello of Rage Against the Machine. The day before I caught the end of their act and it was decent, better than I thought it would be, since I didn't like the recordings they released from the studio work. As I was sitting out in the parkinglot, thinking, contemplating, I had no idea that I had missed a very special presentation of SSSC having Trent Reznor as special guest for an amazing MC5 cover "Kick Out The Jams," which is one of my favorite songs ever. It must've been because Trent's birthday would be the next day, cause that's awesome that he would collaborate on a wonderful and powerful song such as "Kick Out The Jams." I'm still pissed I missed it to partying out in the parkinglot. Once time came around for NIN to hit the stage, I made my way to the Amphitheatre. I couldn't wait for what was instore. I didn't care what they played since the night before had given me so much already. The lights went down and the band came out. Playing "Home" like they did in Phoenix, but still an amazing way to start off a show, a very soft and subtle song with a lot heart. The crowd was so so, there wasn't as many people as I thought would be there. I ran to the front of the middle of the lawn and conquered my spot. I couldn't resist and got just as nuts as I did the night before. I didn't care, "I'm in California" I thought, it's time to get wild. I didn't no anybody else doing anything that could beat would I was doing at that time. The first few songs were sort of main to the setlists, but still rocking, from the rocking "1,000,000" to "March Of The Pigs." It wasn't til "Metal" was played that I realized I was at an amazing show. The crowd didn't seem to respond well to NIN, at least as much as I was. Maybe it's because I actually traveled and wanted to be there and didn't look at the show as just some concert, but more of an Event. I had people come up to me and telling me "Man, you're really into the music..." well, yeah, I thought, isn't that what I'm here for? "Metal" was beautiful and a nice blend into the setlist. It just seemed like the songs kept getting better and better after that. "The Becoming" sent me for the Hills, that was the first song that I ever got into from NIN and the performance was too hot! How could you top that song, oh wait a minute, Trent just did by performing "Burn," which is one of my all time favorite songs. I've completely lost it by this point. "I'm Afraid Of Americans," a song that Reznor produced or remixed for that matter with David Bowie came out of the woodworks and shocked the hell out of me. It seemed like Trent is doing what he wants which makes me so happy. Hearing songs like "Closer" are always nice, but the rare material is where it is at. I literally thought that Bowie might come out for this one, but it was only a dream, sadly it was just the NIN boys, but they still tore the house down with the song. I remember though it wasn't til "La Mer" played that I realized that this show is definitely the show of my life. "La Mer" is such a beautiful song that anybody and I mean anybody can listen to and feel the music. It's rhthym is so heartbound and touches the soul, I feel as if I'm walking down the French Quater of New Orleans on a cool morning sunrise. I had a friend whom I went with to the show in Phoenix, he wanted to hear that song the most and told me if they play that song to call him. So once the piano chords to "La Mer" started playing and I was actually able to calm and get a handle on myself, I dialed him up. Of course it went straight to his voicemail, but I left a message, first telling him I made it to the show and how great it was going, I then told him that he would never believe what song they are playing right now and before I raised my phone, I said "here you go man, it's just for you..." as I raised my phone the song shifts into gear and peaks at that ultimate point when the drums kick in and the song kicks into overdrive. Just a great moment. The rest of the show went on and was absolutely amazing. Playing a lot more favorites, but the fact that I saw these songs performed live along with the songs from the night before gave me and everything and more to be satisfied and will definitely be hard to beat as for shows. I'm an avid Deadhead and have gone to hundreds of shows and have attended quite a few major Festivals around the country and to say that these few shows were the greatest in my life says a lot. Of course NIN closes out with "Hurt" which is really the only way to end a NIN show. Something for them to "Wave Goodbye." I then went to get some water to refresh myself after losing it for 2hrs. I came back for Janes Addiction and while they were alright the night before, in my mind, it's still impossible to follow a band like NIN. The night before we ended up leaving early. Janes Addiction had a good sound, but it wasn't something that could top the energy and power that NIN brought to the table. It seemed like there were more Janes Addiction fans at this show then NIN fans, so of course that was the problem missing from the experience I just had. The crowd got packed tight and I just sat down to rest. The show was the basic setlist of Janes Addiction hits. They sounded good, but I just couldn't believe how much the audience was getting into the music as much as they were, cause they weren't doing that for NIN. The songs reminded me of more of a toned down Rush style. Just a lot of progression and Perry Farrell, although still genious, screaming. Maybe I was just tired from my dancing and partying to NIN, but I just couldn't get into Janes Addiction as much. I stayed for the whole show, mostly cause I drove all that way, but also I needed to come down before I even begin to hit the road and I did. Janes Addiction sobered me up pretty quickly and by the end of the show I was ready to go. The audience though were so into and just vibing off the music that Janes had to offer. I was contemplating on whether to go out to Dana Point that night, or wait til the morning when there is light, but decided to just drive through the night. Which ended up being a big mistake. I ended going three hours out of my way getting lost and caught onto the wrong exits. It was frustrating and almost ruined my time that night. I finally found my way though and got to Dana Point safely and soundly. The next morning I got ready and was not feeling well due to two nights of Extreme Music and NIN. Would this even be worth it now, I mean if Janes Addiction wasn't good enough, how will a little blues be all that great. I was thinking that til I got the beach and found myself in awe and realizing that those feelings were ridiculous. To wake up on a Sunday morning on a beautiful California beach to the sound of the Blues is the best way to end such a great weekend.

  • NIN/JA was one of the best shows ever!

by Stachedogs on 7/11/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

This show was my first time getting lawn seats, and I was very pleased. The tickets were only 30 bucks which was a great deal. We certainly got our money worth....ten times over! Street Sweeper Social Club was very very good...didn't know what to expect at first. By the time they finished, the crowd was really into them. NIN I had never seen, but wanted to for a long time. Trent put on a more stripped down show than the earlier leg of tour, but he delivered the goods and lived up to all my expectations. He totally commanded the entire crowd, and it was mesmerizing to see. The stage and light design was simple, but the synchronization to the music was brilliant. Perhaps it was the cookies I ate earlier?? but at some points I thought we were all subjects of a mass-hypnosis experiment! Trent knows how to get in your head. Finally, Janes Addiction took the stage and tore the house down. Having never seen them, I was quite interested. They pulled out all the stops. In contrast to NIN's "stripped down" show, JA bathed the place in colored lights, and had all sorts of cool visuals, including a psychedelic backdrop with larger than life nude women with resemblance to the Joker. The chemistry between band members was electrifying. I never considered myself a Jane's Addiction "fan" before; I liked their music, but after seeing this show I have a new respect for them. At the end of the night, we shook our heads in disbelief and said "What an amazing show!" The bands complimented each other perfectly.
