About

Nine Inch Nails are a progressive, Grammy-winning industrial rock band composed of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Formed in Cleveland, Ohio as a solo project for singer, songwriter and producer Trent Reznor in 1988, Nine Inch Nails have released 11 studio albums, six EPs and three remix albums, starting with 1989’s Pretty Hate Machine and breakout debut singles “Down In It” and “Head Like a Hole.” For 1992’s Broken EP, NIN reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200 while its standout record “Wish” won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance. In the midst of hitting No. 2 and No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 1994’s The Downward Spiral and 1999’s The Fragile, respectively, NIN released Hot 100-charting singles “Closer” and “The Perfect Drug” and earned a second Best Metal Performance Grammy at the 1996 ceremony for “Happiness in Slavery.” Nine Inch Nails went on hiatus until the 2005 chart-topper With Teeth, then hit the Hot 100 again with singles “The Hand That Feeds” and “Only,” and later with “Survivalism" from their 2007 follow-up Year Zero. Longtime collaborator and English producer Atticus Ross became an official member of NIN in 2016, established with a trilogy of releases culminating in 2018’s Bad Witch. As composers, the duo have earned two Academy Awards, two Grammys and one Emmy. In 2020, Nine Inch Nails were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. NIN also composed the score for the 2025 film Tron: Ares.

  • Sound problems and poor lighting plague NINs set

by joeschmoe on 7/14/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 3 out of 5

NIN was kind of a let down after seeing them on their last tour which had a much better lighting setup. Janes was a pleasant surprise. Show was fun overall and was worth the low price but if i had paid the pit price i woudl have been ticked.

  • All the bands ROCKED!!!!!!

by Jughead74 on 7/14/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

Street Sweeper Social Club opened the show and thought they were one of the best opening acts I'd seen in years. Was a little bummed that NIN came on next.....more of a NIN fan than Jane's Addiction, but thought NIN were awesome. Play most of the hits(was glad they didn't play Closer or Hurt because those are the only songs most people know by them). Jane's Addiction came on last and was pleasantly surprised at how great they were live. Never saw them before and thought it was cool it was the original 4 members.

  • Trent must have been sick.

by Jmkrist on 7/14/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 3 out of 5

Jane's Addiction was amazing! They sounded faboulous. NIN was not their usual greatness. I have seen them several times over the years, and this show wasn't their best. Trent must have not been feeling well, since his voice was not up to par. His set was also extremely short. Show was ok, I'm still glad I went.

  • NINJA '09!

by Rezendes on 7/14/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

The only thing that sucked about this show was the fact the NIN played BEFORE Janes Addiction. However, Janes Addiction put on this FREAKING AWESOME light show. And the lead singer was the best part of the whole concert. (That includes NIN and Street Sweeper Social Club) Just because of the amazing energy. And the ramblings of the men coming down the mountain....

  • NIN/JA Show was well worth it!

by Butko on 7/13/09Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 5 out of 5

Trent Reznor was his usual INTENSE self and Jane's rocked out. Great overall show of two bands that I've wanted to see for a long time...especially Jane's!! Would go again in an instant!!

  • He's been better

by MuggleBarb on 7/13/09Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 2 out of 5

Parking at the Santa Barbara Bowl leaves much to be desired. Also, due to the residential housing so near by the concert had to start and end earlier than most other venues. However, that most disappointing was that Trent Reznor was not accompanied by his usual extremely talented musicians. They played a shorter set and used recorded music for some of the songs (he simply did not have the number of people needed to pull it off). As for Jane's Addiction, we left. We did not like their sound, thought he was obviously high (making his performance sloppy) so we left. Now for what I did like. Trent Reznor's humor was at an all time high, cracking several jokes about the time/sun/etc and I always like it when he interacts with his audience. He played some songs that I had yet to see him perform live. Again, I believe he puts effort into making sure his audiences are not bored.

  • Where did u sit??

    by Drthvder01 on 7/13/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Not enough songs were played by NIN and JANES..UNFORTUNATELY!!

  • Epic Show

by mykonos on 7/13/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

I went to this show not expecting much, partly because it was at Fiddler's and partly because the last time I saw Jane's Addiction play there (Lollapalooza '03) I thought they were terrible. Not so this time around. NIN came on stage under a clouded sky and played strong and loud for their first 5 or 6 songs. Things slowed down a bit after that, as he played some of his weaker material. Overall a very good set though. Jane's addiction kicked ass this time around, playing only their best material, and the band sounded extremely tight with the original lineup. The only complaint that I have was that Perry sometimes didn't even try to hit the high notes, and sometimes seemed to forget his lines. But he made up for it with excellent showmanship and great interaction with the crowd. His line about "taking a woman up to a cabin in the mountains and doing some lines" was hilarious. I was totally impressed by the show both bands put on, and seeing two of my favorite acts of all time together is something I'll never forget. Sitting in the 15th row center helped, too. Perhaps that is why the sound was also the best of any show I've ever seen there.

  • NINJA tour

by cmurph on 7/13/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Nin and Janes Addiction both were awsome. Saw at Fiddler's Green, though. We had General Admission. Its hard to stand and dance on the hill there. Very steep. Also, not loud enough!

  • Nine Inch Nails put on an amazing show.

    by Andy91 on 7/13/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

I thought it was strange that NIN went on first instead of Janes Addiction. Overall it was a good show. Nine Inch Nails did amazing but they didnt have a light show beacause it wasnt even dark yet when they went on. That was disapointing.

  • Love NIN!

by JessB on 7/13/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

The show was awesome! The only thing I would change is to have Jane's go on first and then NIN. That is just my personal preference. I really enjoyed the show.

  • NIN rocked!

    by h13omer on 7/13/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

NIN always puts on a great show. Not sure why they didn't headline but they rocked anyways.

  • NIN/JA + Street Sweeper

by heliix on 7/13/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Great show overall, but I recommend NIN following Jane's, not the other way around. Street Sweeper was a pleasant surprise! They rocked and had a few good jokes to make about the crowd. Setlists were a little short, but I understand time constraints and that isn't the bands' fault. In the end, had a great time anyway!

  • NINJA 2009

by fsuhahn on 7/13/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

NIN was very good and that was the main reason of going until I found out Navarro was playing with Jane's again and then the show became AWESOME! I was very impressed with Janes, It sure was a very entertainging show!

  • Concert was horrible

by Josh1977 on 7/13/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 1 out of 5

The fact that the opening band had a very short set and we were just hanging out when staff told us NIN had been playing for 20 minutes. The fact that NIN had to play first and it was a outdoor concert and still light out just ruined the mood. Nobody was really into it. I've seen NIN lots of time and it's always an amazing show. I don't think the way this one went had anything to do with NIN themselves. I bet hardly anybody there was even there to see Jane's addiction. None of my friends were and we promptly left along with half the crowd after NIN play.

  • Nine Inch Nails were great!!!

by ChuckiesMom on 7/13/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 3 out of 5

Jane's addiction not so much. Even so, it was a fun crowd to listen to music with

  • Unbelievable

by Sharif on 7/13/09Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best shows I've ever seen, NIN or any other artist. Venue was incredible, too. The set was much different than any of the shows I've seen in the past, playing songs that Trent has never played live before. JA also put on a really good show, as well. The only downfall to the entire show was that it wasn't longer.

  • Trent Reznor Sucks

by jurcaktion on 7/13/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 1 out of 5

I bought a ticket to a NIN concert and they failed miserably. While Jane's Addiction played a great show, the band I actually paid to see was a major disappointment. Trent only played 5 songs (none of his good ones) and left the stage before it was even dark. I will never go to one of his shows again.

  • NIN-amazing as always

by grrljulie on 7/13/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

NIN, as usual, was amazing live. Trent always gives an unforgettable performance, relates well to the audience, and his music is even more incredible live. Unfortunately, they did not have the stage for long enough, but that is the nature of the beast. I did not really enjoy Jane's asddiction as much. It seemed that every song sounded just like the one just played and when the political ranting started, it was time for us to go. That was disappointing!

  • NIN was awesome!!!

by reedae on 7/13/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Nine Inch Nails is my absolute favorite band. The show was great. They should have headlined though. I wish this wasn't their last tour because the shows are amazing.
