About

Nine Inch Nails are a progressive, Grammy-winning industrial rock band composed of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Formed in Cleveland, Ohio as a solo project for singer, songwriter and producer Trent Reznor in 1988, Nine Inch Nails have released 11 studio albums, six EPs and three remix albums, starting with 1989’s Pretty Hate Machine and breakout debut singles “Down In It” and “Head Like a Hole.” For 1992’s Broken EP, NIN reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200 while its standout record “Wish” won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance. In the midst of hitting No. 2 and No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 1994’s The Downward Spiral and 1999’s The Fragile, respectively, NIN released Hot 100-charting singles “Closer” and “The Perfect Drug” and earned a second Best Metal Performance Grammy at the 1996 ceremony for “Happiness in Slavery.” Nine Inch Nails went on hiatus until the 2005 chart-topper With Teeth, then hit the Hot 100 again with singles “The Hand That Feeds” and “Only,” and later with “Survivalism" from their 2007 follow-up Year Zero. Longtime collaborator and English producer Atticus Ross became an official member of NIN in 2016, established with a trilogy of releases culminating in 2018’s Bad Witch. As composers, the duo have earned two Academy Awards, two Grammys and one Emmy. In 2020, Nine Inch Nails were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. NIN also composed the score for the 2025 film Tron: Ares.

  • Not Bad, But Could've Been Better

by NiNFan123 on 7/14/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 3 out of 5

The show wasn't terrible, but I felt it had potential to be more thrilling. I was from PA, and at that moment the Red Wings and Penguins were battling out in the Stanley Cup. I knew I was going into trouble, but it was the closest venue with the best seats still up for grabs. The trip up was about 5 hours, but I was very pleased when I saw the venue. Wonderful place to see a show. The concert began with Street Sweeper Social Club. They played a very good set, and showed a lot of energy, the kind of thing we would hope an opening act would do. Next, to my surprise, was NiN. I was a little disappointed in their performance. I am so used to seeing NiN headline that seeing their set without their fancy stage effects was unfortunate. Finally, Jane's Addiction came out and played a terrific set. Tons of energy and decent stage effects. Unfortunately, it seemed like no real encore occured, and I heard the crowd chanting for NiN to come out.

  • Clarkston, MI NINJA Show, May 31st

by mamalanie on 7/14/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

This was a neat, out of the way venue in Michigan quite a distance from Detroit. All the bands did an amazing job. Each band stuck to a tight schedule. The opening act was the Street Sweeper Social Club who played (and some dancing) with great enthusiasm. Second was Nine Inch Nails - they never miss and are always amazing! The fans couldn't get enough of them, especially since Trent Reznor insists this is his final tour. Last was Jane's Addiction -- another great band whose music I wasn't as familiar with, but loved them too.

  • NIN-JAs come out during the day

by tacoflavor on 7/14/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

The performances were great but NIN went on stage first, during the day, without their extensive light show. Anyone who has seen NIN before knows that they could only be half as good as an opener.

  • Great to see Jane's

by rlipp on 7/14/09Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 4 out of 5

Both Jane's and NIN were amazing. It sucked that NIN had to play during the day, but that is really the only negative thing I have to say. Great show!

  • Good show, but NIN said they were retiring.

    by bbennett2001 on 7/14/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Good show, but Trent Reznor said it was his last tour ever.

  • Jane's Addiction was awesome

by SuperZ on 7/14/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Nine Inch Nails sounded good, but I don't know their music very well. I went to see Jane's Addiction who were fantastic. Lots of energy. Perry Farrell is as weird as ever.

  • Jane's is awesome!!

by saltscrub on 7/14/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

this concert was awesome. NIN sounded great and had tons on energy. They played a great mix of songs from all their albums. Trent was hot in his little red pants!!! Jane's kicked @$$! I have waited 18 years to see them in concert and they did not let me down. All the original band menbers were there and they sounded excellent! Dave is amazing how he makes it look so easy to play guitar. Stephen is one of the best drummers ever!! I love the steele drum. Perry was drunk and hot! He is such a great frontman and knows how to talk up a crowd!!!!!

  • NIN + Jane's Addiction

by slash977 on 7/14/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

the show was pretty fab...the only thing that bummed me out was i was under the impression JA was playing first. i love love love dave navarro, but i don't really know much JA music...i was there to see NIN. if i knew they played first, i would have tried harder to be early. plus traffic getting off I75 was horrid

  • Janes rocked

by Tomrock on 7/14/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

I came to see NIN as I hadn't seen them before and I have seen JA on two other occasions. NIN was okay, but I know why JA was the headliner. They Rocked. No one sat for the entire show.

  • NIN stole the show

by Billy87 on 7/14/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

The performances aren't comparable and I don't understand why the line-up is backward but NIN dominates and Jane's was alright.

  • Trent Reznor Can't Stop!

by NicoW on 7/14/09Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This was an unforgettable concert that was presented seamless! It was announced that this may have been Trent of NIN's last concert ... that would be such a shame! Was second time seeing him, and I would Definitely go back again! Jane's Addiction was a great review!

  • Powerful

by Tripp on 7/14/09Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 5 out of 5

Every band that played did an amazing performance. SSWP was a total suprise and even with their different sound Tom Morello put on a terrific show. Trent Resnor of NIN put on the most powerful perfornamce. I really appreciated the fact that he played alot of his older material including alot of songs from Pretty Hate Machine and the Downward Spiral. Even though he played very few instruments you could see Trent's energy come thru his performance. It went will with Janes Addiction because he played a lot of material from their era. Perry Farrel was in his prime - I haven't seen him look this healthy in a long time. He was clean and radiant but his performance still had the same power and emotions as when it first came out. He was insperational for someone who's been as down as he has been and fought his way back up. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of Dave Nabarro he seemed like he was in his prime and seemed happy to play with Janes Addiction again. Overall it was one of the best performance I've seen - the bands blended well together - I hope those bands continue rockin!

  • Janes Rocked It!

by Tarable on 7/14/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

Concert was fantastic! The only complain that I have is that when you are purchasing tickets for NIN wsg Janes Addiction, maybe NIN should headline the show.

  • Show was great, accessible seats not so great.

by johninachair on 7/14/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

The NINJA show was very good. The Opening act Street Sweeper Social Club was very good, but it was way too early and sunny, and not that many people were sitting down yet. NIN put on a great set, but again it was pretty early and they couldnt turn the projectors (projectors, really? Its 2009, get some big diamond vision screens!) for the side screens on until almost the end of the set, which factors into my biggest gripe listed below. NIN didnt play that many songs from Pretty Hate Machine, which I guess is understandable, but I was also suprised they didnt play "Capital G" which I really enjoy. Janes Addiction did an awesome set, playing all their favorites. The biggest problem I had was that I couldnt see any of the band members on the stage from my seats. I use a wheelchair, and I had seats in the accessible section of the lawn, at the front. However the seats are not high enough to see over the bodies of those standing in the rows of the section in front of us. I couldnt see anything until the video projectors for the side screens finally came on at the end of the NIN set. I sit pretty high in my chair too, so I doubt any other fans using wheelchairs would have been able to see either. I will not go to another show at Fiddlers Green because of this. Too bad, they have some good concerts coming up. Red Rocks is much better, any of the accessible areas have clear views of the stage.

  • NIN/JA

by southeast on 7/14/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

NIN music was awesome I'm so glad I was able to see them. Their stage set up and effects were kind of lame but still their music was good. Jane's addiction was very good I would go see them both again. Any show at Fiddlers Green is worth going to.

  • WOW!

by Georgi on 7/14/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Jane's Addiction was the main draw for me, and Nine Inch was for my friend. By the time we left that night, we were both fans of each other's favorite pick.

  • NIN

by Shandroid on 7/14/09Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 4 out of 5

it would have been awesome if NIN could have played the entire show, OR at least after it got dark!

  • NIN and Janes Addiction!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by bsmyers on 7/14/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome show from start to finish to of the best bands around at one show.

  • NIN rocked it, Jane's sucked it

by Hibbie on 7/14/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 3 out of 5

NIN was awesome! Very happy to see them on their "last" tour. Jane's Addiction wasn't anything special. I was not really impressed by them. Fiddler's still sucks. Terrible acustics, $9 beers, and everyone freakin smokes! Yuck! Red Rocks would have been a much better venue.

  • NINJA Tour Detroit

by KMFDMSucks on 7/14/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

Trent was pissed that he had to play before sunset, and I don't blame him. Jane's Addiction played a long set. Go see NIN without JA next time.
