About

Nine Inch Nails are a progressive, Grammy-winning industrial rock band composed of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Formed in Cleveland, Ohio as a solo project for singer, songwriter and producer Trent Reznor in 1988, Nine Inch Nails have released 11 studio albums, six EPs and three remix albums, starting with 1989’s Pretty Hate Machine and breakout debut singles “Down In It” and “Head Like a Hole.” For 1992’s Broken EP, NIN reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200 while its standout record “Wish” won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance. In the midst of hitting No. 2 and No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 1994’s The Downward Spiral and 1999’s The Fragile, respectively, NIN released Hot 100-charting singles “Closer” and “The Perfect Drug” and earned a second Best Metal Performance Grammy at the 1996 ceremony for “Happiness in Slavery.” Nine Inch Nails went on hiatus until the 2005 chart-topper With Teeth, then hit the Hot 100 again with singles “The Hand That Feeds” and “Only,” and later with “Survivalism" from their 2007 follow-up Year Zero. Longtime collaborator and English producer Atticus Ross became an official member of NIN in 2016, established with a trilogy of releases culminating in 2018’s Bad Witch. As composers, the duo have earned two Academy Awards, two Grammys and one Emmy. In 2020, Nine Inch Nails were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. NIN also composed the score for the 2025 film Tron: Ares.

by rcolli on 7/18/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

i just wanted to say that i was extremely upset that janes addiction was the headliner. ive seen nine inch nails a number of time prior and an hour long set is just tooo short! i would have to say the numerous people that walked out with my friend and me after nine inch nails was through would agree with me (as well as the people i talked to after the show days later). if we are going to bring them back....NINE INCH NAILS PLEASE HEADLINE!!

  • A RARE NIN DISAPPOINTMENT

by WhosTheHeadliner on 7/17/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 2 out of 5

I have been to a few NIN concerts and have never, until now, left disappointed. This venue was advertised as a NIN concert...yet NIN opened for Jane's Addiction. The stage effects were ruined by the late afternoon sun. I'm sure the light show and other effects on the stage were awesome as always..too bad nobody could see it. On the other hand...the marketing for this concert was superb. What better way is there to get people to come see a Jane's addiction concert than to advertise it as a NIN venue??

  • NINJA Clever Name Great Show

by Oldrocker50 on 7/16/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed the show however I was hoping for more NIN. I saw NIN last year and they were amazing playing for over 2 1/2 hours. I thought NIN was the headliner for this tour and was a little disappointed until JA played they were outstanding and just plain fun.

  • Jane's Addiction rocked my world! NIN was good 2.

by skymama on 7/16/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was great...took a shuttle from the hotel, nice service. The bands were great, played all my favorites.

  • Fantastic show!

    by CRix105 on 7/16/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Streetsweeper social club was energetic and sounded pretty good. NIN was amazing as always and mixed up their playlist really well. Though I'm a huge NIN fan at heart, Janes addiction stole the show. I wish it would have gone on longer, but is'nt that how concerts usually feel? Dave's stage presence is stellar and Perry is a hell of a showman. The entire show had great energy and everyone sounded excellent!

  • Jane's Addiction Rocked the Place

    by dmford3 on 7/16/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Jane's Addiction rocked Fiddler's Green in Englewood.

  • NIN was awesome!

by lunemer on 7/16/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

This show was fabulous! NIN was awesome, and Trent rocked his little heart out! I really hope that this truly wasn't his last as I will miss seeing him live. He is one of the BEST live performers ever! Janes also rocked with Perry leading with his usual enthusiasm and Dave strumming along trying to look uber cool on his guitar. I really thought that Janes should have opened for NIN though...

  • NIN NEEDS TO TOUR ALONE NEXT TIME

by SICHKFAOCKER on 7/16/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

THIS SHOW WAS THE PERFECT DRUG! THE SONGS NINE INCH NAILS WERE PLAYING WERE ALL THE RIGHT ONES." I'M AFRAID OF AMERICANS"!? REALLY!? THANK YOU TRENT.... YOU GUYS PLAYED GREAT.....EVEN WHEN YOU GUYS MESSED UP "TERRIBLE LIE." LOL. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SHOW..... OH AND BY THE WAY....I THOUGHT I LIKED JANE'S ADDICTION UNTIL I SAW THEM LIVE. SORRY PERRY!

  • NIN/JA

by CamyG on 7/16/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

Streetsweeper, NIN and Janes Addiction were incredible. However, I had wished that NIN played longer as they were the headline on the tour. When they performed and left the stage, I assumed that they would be back to close out the show- considering that this is the last NIN tour for the foreseeable future. This didnt happen and I was left hanging at that. When all wrapped up, I felt that the show was definitely worthy of the drive and the performance by all was definitely memorable.

  • an afternoon w/ NIN

    by toolfan66 on 7/16/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

I am a huge NIN fan and was a bit disappointed to see them as the first band. The music was great and my seats weren't too bad but the light of the day seemed to take alot out of their show. Jane's Addiction really seemed to steal the show and the band was really in tune with the audience. Never been a big fan of Fiddlers Green so maybe I'm a bit biased?

  • Went For Trent But Perry Stole The Show

by redgrrrl on 7/15/09Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 4 out of 5

My friend and I were delighted to be going to see NIN and Jane's Addiction at the Santa Barbara Bowl. As an SB resident, I know first-hand The Bowl is one of the best places to see a live show. And with the small-ish venue (under 5000 seats I believe), the amazing locale (you can see the beach from your seat) and great weather, we get a lot of big name acts who like to play our little town. Having said that, although our seats were in the second-to-last section, it's basically impossible to have a bad seat at The Bowl. We knew Trent and NIN would have something of an uphill battle, coming on at 6:30 on a May evening when the sun would be out for another two hours. But having seen NIN at Lollapolloza in the middle of the day back in 1991, we knew he could pull it off. Ooops, maybe not. What struck us both immediately and continuously throughout NIN's set was the fact that Trent was in shorts, yes, in shorts. And as we were somewhat removed from the stage, at first I thought he might be rocking a pair of black sandals with black socks (think tourist from hell). I want to believe those were combat boots and will continue to do so. As odd as it sounds, I kept returning to Trent's shorts. Why is he wearing them? Is that even rock? Did he mug an Abercrombie and Fitch model on the way to the gig? Trent did still do some rocking, of course. He did an amazing version of Bowie's I'm Afraid of Americans and hit it old school style on Head Like A Hole. His band sounded fantastic and his drummer was kicking a$$. But oddly enough, he seemed to be in his own world--there was little connection with the audience. It felt somewhat deliberate, as if he were performing but also putting out "please leave me alone" vibes. There were some songs (like "Head") where it felt like he was in the moment and really with the audience, and others where he was obviously putting out the energy and working to entertain yet he still felt....distant. When it looked like he was done, my friend and I headed for the stairs to get to the restrooms first. But as we got close to the stage, he came back out for one encore, Hurt. And it was a completely different show up close. I felt much more engaged and "sucked in" being much closer. We were sad that he only did one song, but since security kept shooing us up or down the stairs it was probably for the best. By contrast, Perry and Jane's came out, grabbed us by the throat and didn't let go. And yes, I'll admit it, Perry looked every inch the rock star in a tight, form-fitting black suit (I like to imagine it was leather). He worked the crowd and even from our "nose bleed" section, I felt like he was reaching us all the way in back. For a man of 50, Perry is in incredible shape; he was dancing feverishly and then would resume singing at full force as if it was no effort at all. His voice sounded amazing and he had this easy command and rock star presence that I wished could have rubbed off on Trent a little more. The whole band was in top form and didn't miss a beat. It was like a welcome visit from a really good friend you haven't seen in ages and we left the show energized and excited. Now in his defense, I know when he tore up the stage at Lolla o those many years ago, Trent was younger, angrier and probably drugged up; so I realize having seen him sober (both of us!) that when Trent says "I'm a very shy person," he means it. Or maybe he was just having an off night. Either way, my long past angsty teenager heart was happy to be there, but in an upset victory, the Tiger Beat Pin-Up Of The Year and All Around Rockin' Award goes to Mr. Farrell. He's dreamy.

  • Jane's Addiction rocked!!

by JulesB on 7/15/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

I was practically dragged to this event because I've never been a huge Jane's Addiction fan, and I pretty much grew out of NIN soon after high school, but I had a blast! NIN was good, no complaints, but holy hell does Jane's Addiction put on a great show! Perry Farrell was born to be a frontman, he is entertainment personified, and the band was on point all night. Would definitely recommend seeing these guys live.

  • Can't get any better than this!

by julesaysfu on 7/15/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

NIN is always spectacular in concert! I was a little disappointed that they were the opener, so their show was short. However, I have never seen Jane's Addiction in concert and THAT was an awesome first for me!!

  • NIN-March Of The Pigs was Amazing

  • Awesome!!!

I had a great time. The location was great and NIN was great. Jane's Addiction put on an awesome show.

  • Good Time!

by AngD on 7/15/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was awesome! We weren't aware that NIN was the opener for this show instead of Janes Addiction so we showed up a little late, luckily it was only the first song for NIN. NIN played a lot of the more uncommon concert songs instead of the typical "radio" songs which is always nice to hear!

  • The real JANES ADDICTION

by Milty on 7/15/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

What a show. I have seen janes 8 times and this show was one of the best. To see eric A. back up there made the hair on my arms stand up. Opened with 3 days (which i Have never seen them open with) Janes actually looked into it. The last couple shows seemed like they were not feeling it as much. Maybe it was the old chemistry but they rocked. Im glad Janes headlined because I was toid NIN was headlining.
