About

Nine Inch Nails in Concert

It's hard to imagine alternative music without Nine Inch Nails' hand painting it all in black. But the now iconic band had some rather humble beginnings. Musician Trent Reznor dreamed it all up as an assistant engineer and janitor at a studio in Cleveland, Ohio, back in the late 1980s. This job gave him access to a space where he could record demos—all by himself. These songs would eventually take him on tour in 1988, even supporting a major influence of Reznor’s, Skinny Puppy. This led to the 1989 release of NIN’s debut album, 'Pretty Hate Machine,' a collection of dark, grimy industrial pop that wormed its way into the mainstream consciousness with singles like “Head Like a Hole,” and ended up peaking at No. 75 on the Billboard 200. Quickly, NIN would be everywhere, even landing a coveted spot at the first Lollapalooza in 1991. But this was only the beginning.

NIN’s second album, 1994's 'The Downward Spiral,' proved Reznor's star power in all of its doom and drama, especially with major hits like "Closer" and "Hurt." The accompanying Self Destruct Tour saw those songs transformed into wild and vicious performances, feeding the dark myths behind Reznor’s shocking NIN persona. But his last release of the '90s, 'The Fragile,' would show a slightly more introspective side with its haunting mix of beauty and brutality.

Into the 21st century, NIN has never quite stayed the same—in sound or in lineup—but Reznor's ferocity and fearlessness as an ever-evolving artist has. He’s consistently challenging the idea of electronic music and its ability to play with the psyche, even in its most minimalist form with ambient releases like 'Ghosts I-IV' and his own award-winning film score work with Atticus Ross. Still, NIN is every bit as steely and subversive as it ever was—as proven yet again with the experimental industrial rock of 2018’s 'Bad Witch' and its supporting Cold and Black and Infinite Tour.

Over the course of their career, NIN have brought countless venues to capacity, like Zappos Theater.

    Incredible

by Carmilla on 9/15/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Best show of my life, no joke. Opened up with Somewhat Damaged. 2 tracks off Broken. A Bowie cover. Everything was absolutely stunning. Literally the only not-phenomenal moment was the mediocre sax, after which he made a self-depricating joke. Even when there was a hiccup on 1,000,000 and they stopped half-way through, they got right back to the show. 10/10.

    Absolutely Amazing

by Tepes on 9/14/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

NIN never fails to put on a mind blowing performance. With the added intimacy of The Greek theater, this is easily one of the greatest performances I've seen of theirs and I've been lucky enough to see several. This was also one of the more stripped down visual tours, but what they did with the lighting was powerful.

    NIN at The Greek

by Kitty Finn on 9/14/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Holy Moly could The Greek Theater in Berkeley be the most beautiful venue!! What an amazing venue to see this freaking insane set by NIN with the most impressive lighting concept I’ve seen. This show only confirms how much I wish Trent Reznor would adopt me or whatever.

    Best NIN Ever!!

by nvaleri on 9/14/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

The lineup has been solidified for the last few tours and they gel so so well. It's not Trent + some dudes up there anymore. They are locked in and tight as hell. Great to see Atticus Ross up there with veterans Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini and the incredible Ilan Rubin. The show I saw at The Greek in Berkeley had a setlist straight from the gods. They opened with Somewhat Damaged, sprinkled the best five tracks from Downward Spiral plus favorites from each of the major albums and newer releases. Some deep cuts in there but DAMN great renditions of them. The Perfect Drug was the absolute highlight of the show and they should give Ilan Rubin a freakin medal for being able to even play it. Trent is a legend. Still sounds amazing and has a killer stage presence. One of the premier badass creative geniuses of our time, he and Atticus both. They crank out tracks by the dozen for NIN and a growing list of film scores and continue to put on amazing shows as NIN. One of the top five shows I've ever seen, easy. Do yourself a favor and go see them, their live shows are a gift.

NiN Review - great show, but not happy with GA pricing/seati

by Mark on 9/14/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

I subbed in at the last moment for someone that couldn’t go due to food poisoning. The show and venue were great. One critique I have is that I don’t feel it should have been GA for the whole venue, or if so, the tickets should have been cheaper - ended up paying $159.50 plus tax and fees (so over $180 total) to sit waaaay up on the grass (had to wait for my friends to show up) when others were right by the stage for the same price. I’ve been to plenty of amphitheater shows, and tickets are usually priced accordingly for sections/tiers with assigned seating - grass seating is usually nominal at around $50 depending on the artist. Still glad I saw the show though, but do not think Ticketmaster’s pricing of this show/venue and GA was appropriate (unless that is a requirement of the venue -Greek Theater in Berkeley, then it’s on them!).

NIN 9SEP2022 - Amazing Venue, Amazing Show!

    by A. I. on 9/14/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Still buzzing from the evening - the venue is simple; a beautiful Greek themes amphitheater with concrete “steps” and a lawn on the hill behind it. The staff were all really nice and there was just a positive vibe...there were a good number of concession stands so the waits weren’t bad and access was...fine (obviously busy getting in and leaving) but not a problem. The UC Berkeley campus makes for a nice walk, but beware that parking is limited and you’re going to be walking uphill to get there. Really happy with our experience!

    Great show and experience

    by M. G. on 9/14/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

I loved the way it was GA because I felt it gave everyone a fair shot at good tickets. The hardcore fans were there early and they got to be super close so I'm sure it was a lot good energy up front. This was a great show! I loved it!

    Sound was incredible

by Kate on 9/13/22Hayden Homes Amphitheater - Bend

NIN sounded amazing! It was a really exciting show. I was impressed how good the acoustics were and Trent's voice sounded. The lighting and stage presence was great. It was my first show at the redesigned amphitheater and I think between what they did and the equipment NIN brought it was an impressive show.

    Life altering

by Blueem on 9/13/22Hayden Homes Amphitheater - Bend

I have always loved NIN’s music and have revered Trent Reznor as an artistic genius. Watching them perform live was riveting. The light show with the music created an almost ethereal experience that shook your entire being. I will be going to every performance I can in the future, it was by far the most amazing concert I have ever been to.
