NIGHTWISH IN CONCERT:

When it comes to all-out symphonic metal spectacle, few bands hold a candle to the outsized pomp and showmanship of beloved Finnish rockers Nightwish. From the synchronized pyrotechnics and gigantic customized organ that dominate the band's stage show to the bludgeoning riffs and synth stabs that drive their music, Nightwish has all their bases covered to ensure fans are treated to a spine-tingling concert experience unlike any other. Acclaimed vocalist Floor Jansen joined the band in 2013 and her powerful vocals have become a highlight at their live shows, drawing fans out in droves for electric performances of favorites like "Amaranth" and "Nemo".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Nightwish formed in Kitte, Finland in 1996 under the leadership of acclaimed singer-songwriter Tarja Turunen. The band's early releases established them as stars in their home country, but international superstardom eluded them until the '00s when albums like Century Child (2002) and Once (2004) made their way onto charts around the world. The band parted ways with Turunen in 2005 after releasing the live album and DVD End of an Era, but in 2007 they reemerged with a new lead singer -- Anette Olzon from Sweden. The band recorded two chart-topping albums with Olzon -- 2007's Dark Passion Play and 2011's Imaginaerum -- before her pregnancy led them to seek her replacement for the Imaginaerum World Tour. Floor Jansen was announced as Olzon's permanent replacement in 2013, and she quickly earned rave reviews with her impassioned performances on the road. With their 2015 album featuring Jansen already generating buzz, Nightwish have fans chomping at the bit to catch their fresher-than-ever live show in the flesh.

Fantastic show at a great venue

    by Elena E. on 5/17/22History - Toronto

This concert was a banger! Fantastic sound quality, helpful staff, the event space was very clean and had great effects. My only wish is for prices to be more affordable - both the bar and the merch. $5 for a bottle of water and $80 for a hoodie is just a bit too much. Otherwise I had a pleasant concert experience.

It was absolutely amazing. Bucket list item checked off.

by Stone Wolf on 5/17/22Fillmore Minneapolis - Minneapolis

Beast in Black, and then NIGHTWISH at the Fillmore in downtown Minneapolis. The venue was smaller than anticipated and less crowded. It was seriously perfection. The sound was amazing. And the light show was just as good. The staff was more than capable. Free refills on soda?! The stadiums could learn a thing or two.

    Fun at the Fillmore

by Chris on 5/16/22Fillmore Minneapolis - Minneapolis

First time at the venue, and it is gorgeous. Capacity looks to be about 1K, and the acoustics are phenomenal. Heard Beast in Black perfectly mixed from the back of the venue, stood 10-15 feet away from the stage for Nightwish and it was spectacular.

    We were here!

by PapaMaak on 5/16/22Fillmore Minneapolis - Minneapolis

Beast in Black was a great opening act. HUGE energy! Nightwish was everything we thought it would be be and more. Floor has set a new high bar for excellent lead singer. The band rocked all parts of the show, no let down whatsoever. My wife and I have never been so close to a great group like this. We really felt like a part of the show. Thank you so much.

    Nightwish fan

    by b. m. on 5/16/22Fillmore Minneapolis - Minneapolis

We discovered Nightwish four years ago. Since they were playing within three hours of our location we decided to get tickets and attend a live performance. We had no idea what to expect. Turns out we were blown away. So much so we found out they were playing in Mobile in two weeks. This we booked flights and went to see them in Mobile. We waited for two years for the next tour but the pandemic hit. My wife bought tickets in 2020 and we didn’t get to see them until last week in Lowell MA. Not saying we liked them but upon returning home we booked tickets to Minneapolis to see them at the Fillmore. Floor- the lead singer - has an amazing voice and the show exceeded our expectations. We can’t wait till they tour again in the states.

    Dream concert

by Barbara on 5/16/22Fillmore Minneapolis - Minneapolis

I hadn’t paid attention to who would open for Nightwish, but if I could have chosen the lineup myself, it wouldn’t have been different. My 11 year old granddaughter had not heard either Nightwish or Beast in Black, so it was my opportunity to explain why the best Metal comes from Finland. I had a little trouble with acoustics during part of it, but I still had a marvelous time, and Security and the other fans were courteous and helpful.

    Great band, horrible venue

by Andrew on 5/16/22Fillmore Minneapolis - Minneapolis

A great band was let down by a space with terrible acoustics. I’ve seen Nightwish before in other venues and they have sounded great. At the Fillmore there were weird echoes. At one point I wondered why Flor wasn’t hitting the notes she is capable of—then I realized I was hearing more echo with distortion than I was of her.

    Stunning as always

by Drexel on 5/14/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

Nightwish at the Fillmore in Silver Spring Md, was awesome. A smaller venue they still gave the kind of performance I've seen on festival Videos. They were obviously having Joy in creating the experience for the audience. While they had a shorter set than they do in stadium sized festival videos, everything was great. Basically a tweaked set list since Marco let the band and took his male vocals with him. Floor also sang PlanetHell, which used to have mostly Marco vocals. I Loved it all.

Easy venue entry + Epic Performances - PA needs help!

by MDYcheck on 5/14/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

First time at the Fillmore and what an incredible experience! When I first walked in I was blown away by the fact that I was going to witness Nightwish in such an intimate venue. Better still...I was in the front row (Vertigo Lounge...Well worth it!). The overall vibe of the crowd was courteous; there were no jerks ruining it for others. The staff was friendly and security was low key, even handing out water to the audience between sets. Beast in Black got the place bangin with a number of catchy tunes. Yannis has an incredible voice, we truly enjoyed the stage choreography between the band, and the way the drummer was essentially juggling his sticks mid-song, without ever missing a beat was impressive. Then came Nightwish who took the stage and gave us an EPIC two hour performance with an incredible mix of new and "timeless" songs (nothing is ever old or classic with this band). Floor was brilliant as always, the band was tight (although we do miss Marko) and the musical talent was tremendous. Simply put...You tube is a poor substitute for experiencing Nightwish...You really got to be there in person...and at a venue like the Fillmore.

    Unacceptable

by ACL on 5/13/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

Bottom line - the excessively detailed searches of all individuals purses, wallets, keys, phones, and pocket lint unacceptably delayed our entry into the venue. While one would critique this and say that security is important (and I would agree) the screener on the far right whom we were trapped behind was atypical and EXCESSIVE. Coupled with the fact that the opening act began soon after the doors opened, my wife and I missed the entire Beast in Black set (the entire reason we were there). The event staff was unsympathetic, disinterested, and unprofessional. One couldn’t be faulted for believing that the venue should not begin the event until the paying customers are inside to partake. Rest assured, we will not be returning to this venue and we will be actively spreading the word that the Filmore is not recommended.

Great Performance from my Favorite Band

by Ollie on 5/13/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

Each band member has such a high musical skill level. What makes it even bet ter is everyone seems so happy on stage and with each other as well as the audience. And, of course, Floor was absolutely on pitch for the whole show. I did not expect a full 3 hour show. I can check this off my bucket list now. Thank you Nightwish

Nightwish is an amazing group of people! Their music is heavy without being too dark. Floor looked and sounded amazing!! The venue was also nice and clean. Definitely will see them again, and I'll get closer to the stage next time!

    Amazing show

by E on 5/13/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

The line to get in wrapped almost all the way around the block but it was more than worth the wait. Nightwish absolutely slayed. The opening act, Beast in Black, absolutely slayed too. Don't miss either of these bands if you get a chance.

Great show after nearly two years of being locked in!

by Vik on 5/13/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

Amazing show to celebrate the world (slowly) opening up. I was able to get our tickets upgraded to the Vertigo Lounge, which provided access to a table, food service, and a great balcony view of the stage. That made the concert experience comfortable from both a viewing as well as safety standpoint. And now to Nightwish - what an amazing show they put forth. They were really tight, the song selection was awesome, and then there was their exceptional singer, Floor, who’s next-level awesome! Enjoyed them throughly and the opening act, Beast in Black was great too. Overall, a superb concert experience and well worth the wait and money! Don’t miss Nightwish on tour!!

by Mar on 5/13/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

First time seeing Nightwish live after being a fan for years. Without a doubt, it was an absolutely amazing concert. The band was great and Floor Jansen was phenomenal as usual. I’ll be seeing Nightwish every chance I get in the future!
