  • Nick Offerman, Bigot

by RyanMelissa on 3/28/13Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium - San FranciscoRating: 1 out of 5

In fairness, I did not know what to expect from this show, which Nick Offerman humorously made light of at the beginning of his set ("tonight you came to see...you have no f---ing idea what"). Sadly, the only funny parts of the show were those that found him channeling Ron Swanson. The rest was a bizarre, immature, and vulgar attempt at bathroom humor and bodily fluid jokes mixed with non-comedic rants on his own personal views. His use of profanity was not even well-placed but seemed more like an attempt to convince the crowd that he was edgy and cool. What was most disturbing was his outright bigotry and hate for anyone who disagreed with his stated views. Most of the first half of the show was aimed not at comedy but ridiculing the Bible and religion in general. Now I understand that nothing is off limits for comedy, but this was not even an attempt at comedy. It was literally a description of his own views accompanied by name-calling. Ironically, much of this came under his second of ten "life tips", which he called "say please and thank you"...in other words, be nice to one another. His description of the things he ridiculed was nothing more than a sad caricature, but he really seemed to think he was making intelligent points. The SF crowd ate this up, of course. If Offerman had made some of the same comments but made them about Jews, Muslims, minorities, gays, or anyone else, he may have actually been physically removed from the stage for hate-speech. I really can't say enough how saddened and disgusted we were after even just the first half of this show. The only decent part of this show was the live music that opened the show (Megan Mullaly's musical act). We left about halfway through the show and were not the only ones. I felt "off" all weekend after this show. Ron Swanson=boss, Nick Offerman=immature bigot.

  • Nick Offerman is a comic genius in cognito

by Alixe on 3/26/13Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

My boyfriend and I have been a fan of Parks and Recreation since day one and a few months back I missed a chance to see Aziz Anzari do stand up. When I saw Nick Offerman had a show I jumped at the chance to see it, even though we had no idea what to expect. Knowing full well that Nick was not a seasoned comedian I thought he'll probably just play his character Ron Swanson from P&R on stage. Much to my surprise his wife, Megan Mullally (aka Karen of Will & Grace) was the opening act in a song and dance act called Nancy and Beth. It was mostly old timey blues songs but man that woman has a set of pipes and still looks amazing for her age. She and Nick clearly have a great marriage as they made small playful banter back and forth on stage. Nick basically acknowledged that he wasn't a comedian but would be giving us 10 life lessons almost in the manner of a Ron Swanson sort of character. But Nick actually used his own funny stories to aid in his life lessons and it was awesome. I seriously could have listened to that man read the phone book to me for hours on end. He had great delivery, great punch lines, and a great message to share. I seriously have never laughed that hard from someone just talking to me and not intentionally trying to deliver a joke. I would definitely go see him again.

He said it best: You paid to come here & you have no F** idea what I'm going to do. True enough! And we were thrilled..very funny, great delivery, and a purpose to his comedy. Adult humor, but not vile. "Nancy & Beth" were terrific. And the interaction between Megan & Nick was so very funny! I like when comedians control people who shout out to them. Hecklers can ruin a show, but he handled them. And played to the whole room. Would like to see it again but only 1 show left. Would love it on DVD...too much to absorb. We do laugh days after about favorite parts!

  • Please invite Ron Swanson next time!

I am NOT prudish, I am usually NOT critical of any performer, but my balloon filled with love admiration and devotion for Ron Swanson was soon to become deflated with this other impersonator whose show consisted of continual " f "this and "f " that, hyperfocus on sex and drugs "intoxicants" , (no rock and roll though. at least that. could have helped a little), In addition, his exhaustingly long defamation of Christian beliefs, specifically aimed at the Bible and Jesus Christ, was not only insulting, but erroneous in even the basic facts few would argue...to get a laugh or emphasize his obvious disbelief in any of the values and/or principles (quite a contrast to one of his basic "commandments" of always saying Please and Thank you. His disrespect went way beyond courtesy or even tolerance. Since this was a surprise birthday present to my husband and i included 2 other members of the family to join us for this special special event,, had I even had a notion as to the content of the program and the true character of Nick , which I guess was the whole point of the show to begin with, I would have never exposed any of them to such an extreme opposite kind of individual from the TV character. I would have preferred to continue to live in the fantasy of Parks and Recreation and the characters within...Now, I likely will not continue to watch the show...I am not trying to sound dramatic, but the impact and disappointment had a deep affect on us. Plus, I have NEVER written a negative review about anyone, but this time, it is an exception. Our special trip to San Francisco before and after (the next day) was fun, but the focus of all of it was something that I will always regret, not reading the reviews or finding out more about what the show was all about...So lesson learned. Please Nick, dont forget your fans (previous) who came to this show to see more of the same, that character with part of you yes, but not be defaming so much Americana with your stories and language was really unbelievable.

It was probably the best live comedy experience I've ever seen.

  • Mr & Mrs Offerman

by DoveCA on 3/25/13Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

A fun twist on stand up comedy. Instead of searching for wisdom, masked by comedic antics, Nick Offerman creates hilarious moments from life lessons. The chemistry between Nick and Meagan was enjoyable and gave the show gobs of genuine spirit. Joyous honesty was the show's theme and nothing could have been a better opening than Nancy and Beth's songs. Hilarious and easy to love!

  • hands down brilliant

by brokecrew on 3/24/13Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

This show had a very simple yet refined set up, It was just Nick Offerman, the stage, and a few instruments. The show was a presentation of his 10 tips for a prosperous life. He spoke, told life stories, sang, and gave sage advice on life including; eat red meat, have a relationship with Jesus (if it gets you sex), and other hilarious tips. The opening band Nancy and Beth (featuring his wife Megan Mullally) were awesome and came out for Nick's encore to preform "Let me smell your dick" and then with Offerman to sing "Bye Bye Little Sebastian" from Parks and Rec

  • awesome show

We didn't know what to expect going in and we came out very pleased. We frequent a lot of comedy shows and have seen many great comics. Carlin is the only is other show that I can compare this one too. He went a solid two hours and had me entertained the whole time. If you get the opportunity to see him do yourself a favor and watch him.

He rambled a lot and wasn't that funny. His wife's band rocked, however.

  • Hysterical

by JayHark on 3/6/13Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

All the Ron Swanson-esque comedy you could want. He works the parallels between his character and real persona and takes everything one step further, plus Nick's music stylings are not to be missed.

  • Awesome show!!!

Ron Swanson otherwise known as Nick Offerman was hilarious!!! Put on a great show for us and even better it was the live taping of his first stand up special, American Ham! I will definitely be buying the special when it's hits stores and I am looking forward to seeing him again!!

  • Hilarious!

Absolutely hysterical show! Nick's humor is fantastic, loved every minute of it. Was disappointed, though, that Megan Mullally and Stephanie Hunt did not perform, as was advertised on the poster outside the theatre (see attached).

I was laughing the whole time and his points were classic Nick Offerman.

Hilarious? Life Changing? Unforgettable? How about all of the above. Nick pulls all the right strings within his showcase. I left the show feeling completely different from any other comedy show I have ever been to.

I had been looking forward to this night for three months and was so excited to finally see Nick Offerman in person. I have loved his character on Parks n Rec and have also enjoyed his skillful work as a woodworker. I have never been more disappointed in a live show in my life. Had I known it would be two hours of Mr. Offerman making fun of religion (specifically Christianity) and a constant running commentary on his own political views couched as "comedy"; I wouldn't have wasted my time or money. It certainly wasn't what I expected and wish I hadn't wasted my time.
