About

Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 1983, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are one of the most critically acclaimed post-punk bands of the last 30 years. Following the end of their previous group, the Birthday Party, singer-songwriter Cave and drummer Mick Harvey began the Bad Seeds. Initially joined by Barry Adamson on bass and Blixa Bargeld on guitar, the band has seen a number of personnel changes over the years with the one constant being the creative force of Cave himself.
Exploring the themes of love and religion, the band’s debut album, From Her to Eternity, was released in 1984. Featuring a cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “In the Ghetto,” presented in the band’s inimitable style, the record showcased the deep impact of Cave’s baritone voice. Quickly following second album, The Firstborn is Dead, third release Kicking Against the Pricks saw the band first find fame in the UK and Ireland. Critics also began to sit up and take notice, with Cave’s prose-like approach to songwriting bringing welcome comparisons with Leonard Cohen. This narrative style was seen again on 1986’s Your Funeral…My Trial, before the beginning of a two year break from recording for the band.
Four more albums were released in the early ‘90s in addition to the band making a range of high-profile US festival appearances. The album Murder Ballads, released in 1996, became a critical success for the Bad Seeds and saw songwriter Cave explore two of his favorite themes: death and violence. The album featured vocals from Kylie Minogue on the single, “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” and the success of the song helped make Murder Ballads the band’s best -selling album so far. 1998 saw the release of No More Shall We Part, with further albums Nocturama and Abbatoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus being released in the early ‘00s.
Following a number of sell out tour dates in 2005 and 2006, Nick Cave’s musical achievements and creative contribution saw him inducted into Australia’s ARIA Hall of Fame. Not for the first time in his career, Cave then moved from music to movies, writing both the screenplay and soundtrack for John Hillcoat’s 2012 film, Lawless. Early 2013 saw the release of Push the Sky Away; the band’s first output in nearly five years, it was widely acclaimed by fans and critics alike.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds played an amazing set. Connected with the audience in a real, authentic way. Songs were emotional, primal; incredibly moving, cathartic evening. Played for approx. 2 hours without a break - incredible energy.

Nick Cave impregnated me with his bad seeds

by Edgehaha on 6/29/17San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

One of the best performances I've ever seen. He had the audience sucked in from the beginning. He got off stage and walked over the seats as if he was floating above the audience. Toward the end of the show he pulled about 200 people on the stage and had a dance party. Then he told them all to sit down on stage so that he could tell them a story as if he was their father telling a bedtime story. One tall fat guy at the back of the stage didn't sit and Nick yelled sit the F$^% down! The guy complied. Absolutely incredible memories were made for me that magical night. I can still feel elation from the show 3 days later. I hope with all my heart he comes back soon.

    Best Performer!

by Versace212 on 6/27/17San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Nick Cave is one of the best performers alive: elegant, full of energy, his baritone voice captivating to the unreal! My experience was unique and probably the best concert I have been. The whole band is amazing and their music hypnotizing. The Civic Theatre in SD is actually the ideal venue to see Nick Cave: the quality of the sound there is pretty much perfect!

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at the Wang Center

by hurlyburlygirly on 6/20/17Boch Center Wang Theatre (formerly Citi Performing Arts Center) - Boston

A thoroughly enjoyable performance. Nick Cave's elegant presence was energetic and inviting...so inviting that by the end of the performance, the stage was filled with joyous audience members. The Bad Seeds solemnly kept the beat throughout the aloof to zealous content. The lighting emphasized the moods.

    Fantastic Show!

by Cornetto on 6/19/17Beacon Theatre - New York

Beacon show was insane. It would've been better if they let more people closer to the stage, but they had a 5 first rows rule, which prevented me from getting closer, even though Nick himself gestured to get closer and the security stopped me. Ridiculous, but hey at least he acknowledged my presence and it's something I can never forget. If you can, GET as close as you can to the stage and worship him, because then he is at his best. Insane show, insane sound, great set list. 2+ hours. Oh I love him and the seeds so much. I've been to so many concerts and nothing compares. Nothing.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds were easily among the Top 10 shows I've ever seen in my life - and I go to somewhere between 30 and 50 shows a year.

    The House of Nick Cave

by wordmyer on 6/18/17Beacon Theatre - New York

What can I say...one of the great performers of our time! Every time I see this band it just gets better. Nick Cave is a writer, lyricist and performer who connects with his audience like no one else. Along with violinist/instrumentalist extraordinaire Warren Ellis and the rest of the band, this is a show that you will never forget. If you have never been a part of the House of Nick Cave do yourself a favor and get to it!

    A triumphant return

by RTF37 on 6/17/17Beacon Theatre - New York

Nick Cave returned to the Beacon after a 2 year hiatus upon suffering the tragic loss of one of his twin sons. He showed up not in mourning but as a man whose traveled to a dark mystical place and gathered even more light and wisdom. His new album from which he showcased is full of songs of hope and longing. There is still an urgent message of the joys of life despite life's trials and he and us pervail. If you're lucky enough to get an opportunity to catch a show on the tour, go. You'll be thankful. A truly cathartic and memorable experience.

I've never seen anyone perform quite like Nick Cave; his voice is so rich and powerful and his stage presence is out of this world. There was not one dull moment throughout the show. I HIGHLY suggest for fans to see him live. I regret not getting tickets for the second night!

Nick Cave=amazing! Detroit Masonic Temple sucks

by DetroitGrl on 6/17/17Masonic Temple - Detroit

Nick Cave was amazing! Full of energy and excitement. He really got the crowd involved. Moved around the stage and audience a lot. Did some great versions of his songs. However, Detroit Masonic Temple sucks. When I bought the tickets online; the price listed was for assigned seats and was a higher price than GA. When we arrived at the venue @ 8pm (doors were at 7p) we were told by Masonic Temple staff that there were no assigned seats (even though our tickets had specific seat numbers and sections on them) and that we should take a seat where we could find one open. The lights were down & Nick Cave was about to come on stage; the house was full and the only seats were at the very back of the building. Horrible seats! Could barely see Nick Cave from miles away. :-(

    Energy and Passion

by JBaileySenior on 6/13/17Boch Center Wang Theatre (formerly Citi Performing Arts Center) - Boston

The show started at about 8:30, there was no support group, so this was not a problem for me. This was my first time seeing Cave and the Bad Seeds live. Without doubt. I'll be looking to attend future shows. Amazing performance.

    Best concert of my life

The Seeds performed for about three-hours non-stop, not including a brief interlude between the main set and the encore. Cave was in fine form, delivering a truly emotive and electrifying performance - as anticipated, but still amazing. The set-list touched on material throughout their entire career, dating all the way back to the first record with an emphasis on the most-recent Skeleton Tree. The finest concert that I have attended.

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

by Milevine70 on 6/13/17Boch Center Wang Theatre (formerly Citi Performing Arts Center) - Boston

Transcendent. I love Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, but I had no idea they'd be as good as they were. A friend of mine said the show bordered on a religious experience--that was the feeling in the theater. And the music, whew, the music!--
