About

Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 1983, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are one of the most critically acclaimed post-punk bands of the last 30 years. Following the end of their previous group, the Birthday Party, singer-songwriter Cave and drummer Mick Harvey began the Bad Seeds. Initially joined by Barry Adamson on bass and Blixa Bargeld on guitar, the band has seen a number of personnel changes over the years with the one constant being the creative force of Cave himself.
Exploring the themes of love and religion, the band’s debut album, From Her to Eternity, was released in 1984. Featuring a cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “In the Ghetto,” presented in the band’s inimitable style, the record showcased the deep impact of Cave’s baritone voice. Quickly following second album, The Firstborn is Dead, third release Kicking Against the Pricks saw the band first find fame in the UK and Ireland. Critics also began to sit up and take notice, with Cave’s prose-like approach to songwriting bringing welcome comparisons with Leonard Cohen. This narrative style was seen again on 1986’s Your Funeral…My Trial, before the beginning of a two year break from recording for the band.
Four more albums were released in the early ‘90s in addition to the band making a range of high-profile US festival appearances. The album Murder Ballads, released in 1996, became a critical success for the Bad Seeds and saw songwriter Cave explore two of his favorite themes: death and violence. The album featured vocals from Kylie Minogue on the single, “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” and the success of the song helped make Murder Ballads the band’s best -selling album so far. 1998 saw the release of No More Shall We Part, with further albums Nocturama and Abbatoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus being released in the early ‘00s.
Following a number of sell out tour dates in 2005 and 2006, Nick Cave’s musical achievements and creative contribution saw him inducted into Australia’s ARIA Hall of Fame. Not for the first time in his career, Cave then moved from music to movies, writing both the screenplay and soundtrack for John Hillcoat’s 2012 film, Lawless. Early 2013 saw the release of Push the Sky Away; the band’s first output in nearly five years, it was widely acclaimed by fans and critics alike.

So dramatic and amazing. What a perfect venue. Old architecture suits him best. I have wanted to see Nick Cave live since I first saw Wings of Desire in 1988. So glad this finally happened. What an amazing artist! What great lighting and projections!

I wish I was able to see more dates of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to re experience the raw power and carefully decided emotion of a modern Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds setlist. I travelled 20 hours by car to attend this event. The theatre was perfect and the sense of eloquence that the artist is known for was definitely flowing. For a band with long list of discography it was exciting to see what song would be next. The only 2 I would have loved to experience would be "Let Love in" and "No more shall we part". Revisions to previous Hit singles breathe new life into highly played songs. Specfically "Red Right Hand" and the addition to "Stagger Lee". The rawness of the artists new single "Jubbilee Street" will not be forgotten. I cannot say enough positive things about this experience. Nick Cave is an artist for which I have the uptmost respect and I feel fortunate that I was able to see this group perform.

I have waited a very long time to see Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds live... It was all I thought it would be and more... He's a brilliant lyricist, and preformer! The whole band was amazing!

Very nice, if incompatible venue. AMAZING show!

by tankergirl on 3/16/13McFarlin Auditorium - Dallas

This theater is gorgeous and in a lovely neighborhood. Not the right place for a show like this, but fortunately, Nick stopped the security from forcing us back into our seats. They gave way to the flood, and we were able to gather around the stage for a proper preaching to. And nobody does it better than Nick. He seems to get more intense with age. I'm surprised folks didn't fall to the ground in St. Vitus dance. Great sound and mesmerizing performance. Highly recommend! Easy parking, but missed having concessions.

The Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds performance at the Fonda was so ridiculously good I really don't know how to describe it.

    Great Setup/Terrible Sound

by axel23 on 2/23/13The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

You would think that for $140 starting price tickets that the sound wouldn't make your ears bleed, but apparently you would be wrong. Clearly an amazing performer but the mix was so loud and bad that Nick was actually singing out of key on a few of the songs. It's not a huge venue, which should be a bonus as well as mean that you should have great control over the sound. The strings and kids sounded like the were singing through tin cans. That all being said I would say that 1/3 of the songs sounded great.
