About

For the first time in League history, the National Hockey League (NHL) will host outdoor hockey in Florida. Celebrating the explosive growth of hockey in Florida over the last three decades, the League will stage two outdoor games in the Sunshine State during the 2025-26 season starting with the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic featuring the Florida Panthers hosting the New York Rangers at loanDepot park, on Jan. 2, 2026.

The 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic will mark the first-ever NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Panthers and the sixth for the Rangers, who hold an NHL-best 5-0-0 record in outdoor games. The NHL Winter Classic continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2026 edition marking the 17th NHL Winter Classic.

  • Bucket List Event

by AduB on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

I was so excited about seeing my favorite team play in their first ever Winter Classic where I learned to love the sport of hockey. I wanted everything to go smooth so I bought parking in advance and left 3 hours early. It took me around 40 minutes to drive from my parents house in Fort Worth to the parking area at the Cotton Bowl. I GPS'd my actual lot so I could go straight to where I needed to be only to find that the event parking crew had already filled the lot that I was assigned to and asked me to turn back into the crazy traffic situation of 85,000 people to go to another lot. Once there the attendant at that lot told me that the attendant at the first lot had told me to go to the wrong place and I could not have my parking validated at the lot I was currently at. This attendant told me to again turn BACK into traffic and go to yet another lot. Once at this lot I was able to have my parking pass scanned but not until after an hour and a half of driving around in the parking area... Next time I advise just using a drive service or paid parking... Once we got to the main area you were pilled into a one way in scene where you had 85,000 people with no crowd control barriers for traffic, very little to no signage for anyone to know where you were going, and just utter MASS CHAOS! Who ever is responsible for the PRE stadium aspect of this game should be fired for sure and NEVER allowed to plan another event EVER! However the game went off well... Exactly what you would expect for an NHL Winter Classic Experience!

  • Great experience outdoor hockey - horrible venue for fans...

by Jamie on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

Ridiculous lines for food/beverages and then it wasn't even available... Selling tickets to the visiting team (and known based upon how those tickets were accessed) directly in with the home crowd... not exactly a welcoming means... Tickts were purchased within hours of release, not as resale tickets.

  • Best Game Ever

by Sarah on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I have been to many Dallas Stars games this season and last season. The Winter Classic game was by far the best game we have been to. There were so many activities for fans, the entertainment during commercial breaks were exciting. All the fans I talked to said the experiences they had at the game was amazing. #GOSTARS

  • The BEST!!!

    by L. F. on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to world series games, football championships, NHL Stanley cup playoff games and the NHL Winter Classic experience blew them all away. It was a once in a lifetime game that I will never forget. Unbelievable and fantastic atmosphere, Dallas Stars fans rocked this one out of the Cotton Ball.

Seriously! I've had 2 babies...climbed the Eiffel tower and crossed the Golden Gate Bridge...spending the day with my son at the Winter Classic is right up there as one of the biggest highlights of my life...Dallas, Texas and the Dallas Stars made this event fun, exciting, beautiful, memorable and worth every penny spent! I love my jersey and beanie...have no shame showing anyone who will look all my photos and relive every goal watching YouTube videos...RADS' goal still gives me goosebumps!!! The best day EVER!!! Thank you Dallas!!!...

  • Had a great time @ the Cotton Bowl w/ exception overcrowding

    by A. on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

I had the best time at the 2020 Winter Classic @ the Cotton Bowl. Sight lines were great from every angle. The only issue that I had was the fact that Fair Park was so condensed that there were HUGE pile ups of people every where, making it nearly impossible to move along the Midway. It seemed as if they were filtering people to HAVE to use the main gate (A) vs the other entry points around the stadium. Outside of that issue. I couldn't have asked for a better experience for this 1 of a kind day.

  • 2020 Winter Classic

by Disappointed on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

The event was great! So much fun to see a hockey game outdoors and the crowd, for the most part, was nice. Flyover was spectacular and the fireworks the best! Ice looked great and I loved the set up. I gave it only three stars because of the events prior to the start of the game. Being in the Midway was brutal! The crowd could not move at all, couldn't get to any of the activities/rides, etc. The lines for any food was absolutely insane! I understand this was the first year, but the Cotton Bowl should have been better prepared for the crowd. They knew we were all coming. I thought the "Texas" theme was okay; thought the dancers were a little hokey. But all-in-all, great event! Hope we get it back some day.

  • An amazing experience

by Kat on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

This was a great event and amazing experience! The energy was great and the game was fun. I only gave 4 stars because the location of pick up and drop off for shared rides was not clear or organized. Also, there were extremely long lines for the concession stands and restrooms. But overall, the atmosphere was great.

  • Was a good time and great atmosphere

    by CTG77 on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I'm not a Stars or Preds fan (Let's Go Blues!), but the NHL did a great job hosting such a huge event in an older facility without any noticeable problems. Sure, traffic was a pain, but it always is at any major concert or sporting event, and they had golf cart shuttles to and from the parking lots to help with the long walks. Overall, we had a good time. The bleacher style seating isn't the most comfortable, but it's a 90 year old stadium built for college football, so that's to be expected.

  • Fun Winter Classic

by Net on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

This was my third Winter Classic and it did not disappoint. The fans were great and energized. The entertainment was fun. The flyover is always one of my favorite things to see. The Cotton Bowl because it is old made it a little difficult to move around, but it did not take away from the atmosphere. Looking forward to my next Winter Classic and maybe my team will be in it.

  • Once in a lifetime AWESOME

by Susan on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Weather perfect for outdoor hockey. Sat in section 112. We could see the entire rink, the puck moving, hear the sticks hitting and the players yelling. The game was very exciting!! No complaints other than the poor signage for parking. That was certainly lacking.

  • Great Game, Poor Planning

by Stars Fan on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

I loved this event but I will say the planning that went into it could have been better. For an event partially sponsored by Truly it was not an easy drink to purchase once inside the gates. Also, I stood in like a while just to get to the front and find out that they were out of the containers they sell nachos in and they only had 3 Bud Light left. They offered to sell me nachos in the drink holder container, and since I was starving, I took them up on their offer and paid they full $7 for only 6 chips and cold cheese. The game was amazing but I don't think the planning team expected such a large group and definitely did not plan food or alcohol well.

  • Hope it happens again

by Ash on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

For the most part, it was a great experience. My only complaint is that lines for any concessions were annoyingly long. I almost missed the whole first period because the lines where slow and long. One of the concession owners said the equipment was old and slow. Maybe the venue needs to update.

  • Winter Classic

by Great game, not a great venue on 1/5/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 2 out of 5

Let me start by saying this was one of the best hockey games I've ever attended. However, they were not adequately prepared for 86,000 fans. There only appeared to be one main gate for everyone to go through to get into the venue. It took almost 45 minutes just to get through security, and at least another 45 to get through the gate of the cotton bowl. It didn't matter which way I was going, I was always fighting a crowd. Having been to a red river game prior to this, it seemed like that game was able to move people through in a much more efficient manner than they were for the winter classic. I would've loved to stay and enjoy the festivites, and even buy some merchandise, but fighting the crowd was simply not worth it. I'd also suggest maybe helping fans find legitimate parking lots that are outside of the venue. I parked in an area that seemed legitimate, only to come back to a ticket for a parking violation.

  • Incredible experience but...

    by Richg923 on 1/5/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

The 2020 Winter Classic was an incredible experience. But getting to and walking around inside the stadium was a different story. It seemed sections of the (State Fair/Fair Park)grounds were blocked off and pedestrian traffic was diverted to one area near the bumper cars and a small roller coaster ride. Everyone walking to the stadium and from the stadium bottle necked in that small area and came to a halt. No one was moving. Finally, small narrow single lines of people began moving in both directions and it was the only flow of foot traffic moving through the crowd of hundreds if not thousands of people standing still. The same happened at the west entrance to the stadium. I'm not sure if there was another entrance to the stadium that was open but it seemed as everyone was entering the west gates(I think it was gate A). Walking through the stadium was just as impossible. The concession lines and lines to the bathrooms conflicted with just trying to wall through the stadium to get to our seats. Once in our seats, the atmosphere of the crowd was great. The 8-tracks played great cover songs. I know NBCSports was covering the game across the nation so they, along with the NHL, had to give everyone their stereotype perception of what Texas and Texans are like. If only. Anyway, the two-step dancers complemented the music of Midland. Not sure who that other band was. Some Texas Red Dirt musicians would have been great. The mechanical bull was par. The circus performers were at the wrong venue. The horse riders carrying the flags, lasso horse rider, longhorn bull rider and mutton busting were all true of a rodeo in Texas. The pig races were over the top but the names of the "hog-gie players" were pretty punny. The actually game was great. Especially when the Stars made it into a game during the 2nd and 3rd period and had the crowd roaring. The crowd became electrified once the Dallas Stars scored and took control of the game. I met people from different parts of the country, not just Nashville and DFW locals. It was an incredible hockey experience like no other.

  • Hockey Bucket list is Complete

    by G. E. on 1/5/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Great and memorable experience! The NHL did a fantastic job of planning and executing this HUGE event. The Cotton Bowl is still a very cool venue! If a Winter Classic Game comes to a city near you, it would be a mistake to miss this once in a life time event! We had a Blast!!!

  • The BEST Specific Sporting Event Attended

by jjmoon on 1/5/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

In The Bowl was Great. Good Site lines & big screen TV was ry Next to Us. More Merchandise tents would have been Great. The Entry Points (Security) could have been Moved Back. DART was.... Interesting. Loved It j&s

  • IT WAS AWESOME!!!

by JP on 1/5/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The whole experience was just the greatest! The weather was perfect, not too warm (would have affected ice quality), not too cold (would have been a little uncomfortable)! The decorations & setup were very well designed, loved the wood accents and the yolk for the teams’ and event logos! We didn’t partake of the fair rides and such but was a good gesture to have these open/accessible for activities. The entertainment was very good as well, with bands, jugglers, pig racing, fireworks, flyover, etc.! And, then we received NHL’s email about the panoramic view of all attendees for us to mark/identify each other in the crowd! Thanks to all who made the experience what it became!

  • Lived up to bucket list hype

by Gabe Flores on 1/5/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Pre-game and in-game entertainment was awesome. Concerts, pig races, mutton bustin’, jugglers, you name it. The game was awesome and the stadium was packed. I’ll go to the Winter Classic any time it’s held in Dallas.
