Great game. Terrible everything else.
by Gingit on 1/5/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5Seeing outdoor hockey in Texas was AWESOME. Everything actually inside the stadium (and I mean, where the seats are), was incredible. The game. The entertainment during the breaks. The intermission entertainment. Pig races!! Punny pig names! All A+! But everything outside the field of play was awful. It took 1.5 hours from arriving at Fair Park to get to our seats. And we literally didn't make any stops; just went straight there. There was no direction or signage, so everyone was trying to use the same gate to get into Fair Park. After 20 minutes in line, people finally came around and began guiding attendees to other entrances. Once inside Fair Park, it was so crammed, you could literally only move a few inches every few minutes. We had planned to get player autographs and partake in the Fan Fest prior to the game, but you literally couldn't move through the Midway. There appeared to only be 3 places in all of Fair Park to get merchandise, so the lines were obscene and all three ran out of items. We also couldn't eat because concessions lines were so long. The people sitting next to us waited an hour for a corn dog. Getting into the Cotton Bowl took ages since again, most people tried to be getting in through just one gate and there was no signage or information directing people to other entrances (even though I heard from others those entrances were only slightly better). It didn't help that they had a huge chunk of the entrance to Gate A blocked off for line dancers, jugglers, and cowboys for TV shots. Could that really not have been done anywhere else? It took 40 minutes to actually get into the stadium. Once inside, it was another nightmare as the concourses were jam packed with people going every which way and no one helping to control the flow of traffic. It took another half hour to force our way through the crowds to get to our seats. My husband left to get us food five minutes into the first period and didn't come back until the second period was almost over because food lines were so long and there was rampant line cutting. It seems like all the planning went into the actual game experience, and that really paid off! But a little extra planning and staffing outside the stadium (and in the concourses) could've made this a much more enjoyable overall experience. That being said, even having a terrible time outside the stadium couldn't take away from taking part in the Winter Classic. What an experience! Go Stars!
