About

For the first time in League history, the National Hockey League (NHL) will host outdoor hockey in Florida. Celebrating the explosive growth of hockey in Florida over the last three decades, the League will stage two outdoor games in the Sunshine State during the 2025-26 season starting with the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic featuring the Florida Panthers hosting the New York Rangers at loanDepot park, on Jan. 2, 2026.

The 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic will mark the first-ever NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Panthers and the sixth for the Rangers, who hold an NHL-best 5-0-0 record in outdoor games. The NHL Winter Classic continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2026 edition marking the 17th NHL Winter Classic.

  • Sub-par

    by Tron1234 on 1/4/22Target Field - MinneapolisRating: 2 out of 5

If you are going to have an event outside in a stadium designed for summer, thought should be put in to it. The stadium was not clear of snow which in turn was very unsafe going up and down stairs and general walking. Was very slippery almost everywhere. Also- not enough room in seats. Everyone was in winter gear and literally sitting on top of each other due to the big/bulky outerwear.

  • Winter Classic rocked!

by Joe on 1/4/22Target Field - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

What an unbelievable experience. Sure it was cold but the setup was awesome and the show was all I thought it would be. Would totally do it again and hope for warmer conditions.

  • Still frozen

  • Winter Classic II

by Chief Wagner 51 on 1/4/22Target Field - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Although it was the COLDEST experience in my LIFE, it was spent with my son and friends. Wouldn't have missed it for the world. In the last five years, my son have attended TWO Winter Classics (Which the Blues WON BOTH), an NHL All Star Game, and the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including the FINALS in which the Blues WON. It doesn't get much better than this.

  • Once In a Lifetime

by Sarah on 1/4/22Target Field - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

It was a blast ! I took my brother with me, and although it was freezing we dressed appropriately and made the most of it ! We sat up in the 300s, which was chilly so we moved to lower levels and stood under some heat lamps (which were a lifesaver at times). There were plenty of merchandise tables, the lines for which were long but I ended up scoring some. There wasn’t really a terrible view of the rink anywhere. I enjoyed that there were always things going on on the sides. Thomas Rhett put on a great performance, and it was really cool that they announced the US Women’s hockey team ! It’s a bummer the Wild lost, but it was an overall unforgettable experience

  • Preds fan experience

by Disappointed on 6/27/20Rating: 5 out of 5

Hockey lovers, Preds fans and avid travelers. I got tickets for my two daughters and myself, we flew to DFW, ubered to the downtown hotel. We experienced the big D as everyone should. From the local food venues, the 1st annual Dallas NYE party to the whole Cotton bowl experience, we had a blast & made lifetime memories with my daughters.

  • Outdoor hockey in Texas works

by Harvey on 1/24/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Getting to and inside the Cotton Bowl was an experience. Can only describe it as trains and bus acting as sardine can. Walking 300 yards from security checkpoint to stairs to enter took about an hour. Didn't have great seats but could still see fine. Game didn't start out great but a fierce comeback backed by 85,000 people roaring made the day memorable, thrilling, & interesting to say the least. Public transportation made the day easier and affordable. $100 parking was INSANITY. Riding light rail and a bus was $3 total for two people round trip. Cloudy and fifty degrees may hockey outdoors work. Conditions were fine. City, league, organizers, volunteers, workers, law enforcement, all did a fantastic job. Slow moving getting to the game was due to size of the crowds, not from someone messing something up. Winter Classic is a rare occurrence. Dallas did an excellent job.

  • saw whole game on screen

    by P. R. on 1/17/20Rating: 2 out of 5

My husband and I went to watch Winter Classic in Dallas because it has been our dream after watching it always on TV - to attend a game. Cotton Ball was the perfect venue as I am intolerant to extreme cold temperatures. We got tickets, flew to Dallas and stayed in a hotel just to experience this live event. I am always a grateful person and I do not want to take anything away from the event- The fans from each team were passionate and fun, the entertainment was very cool from music to cowboys to pig races. It was truly a privilege to attend a game and experience Dallas hospitality. However our seats (15-16) Section 5 Row 5 HAD NO VIEW OF THE ICE- so it is not as if it had an obstructed view- had no view whatsoever. So we watched the whole game- on the screen. We love hockey but going into all this expense to watch the game on a screen is wrong. This review is so whoever is responsible for selling these ticket- Cotton Ball, NHL, Dallas Star organization, Ticketmaster or any other- do NOT SELL in the future these type of tickets to people who love the game.

  • Hockey doesn't get any better!

by GeriHatrickdad on 1/17/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

This years Winter Classic in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl was incredible! I have been to many Stars games over the last 20+ years, but no game has ever come close to the experience of the Winter Classic. The 86K hockey fans, in the open air with all the pomp and circumstance of the State Fair, and a heated rivalry made for a memorable experience. Of course the cherry on top was a Stars comeback win!

  • GO STARS

    by JC2NX on 1/17/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The Midway was PACKED- NHL could have done a better job of opening up more space to keep the flow of people moving instead of packing us in like sardines. The Cotton Bowl and game were excellent.

  • Great time!

by Terri on 1/9/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The game was amazing! Great experience! I did feel the lines were entirely too long and concession prices were waaay to high! Wasn’t able to buy anything as far as a souvenir because those line were incredibly long and very slow also. I did think the Texas theme was a little over the top and the music choice could have much better. As much as the Texas theme was pushed, you should’ve had a Texas singer, or at least a REAL country music performer. I feel the city of Dallas really fell short, especially with the lack of Dart trains running. The wait times were unacceptable especially leaving the stadium and the eRly shut down. Quite a few people were complaining about that & some live in Dallas!

  • Just WOW !!!!

Had a great time out there with my son and oh yeah and the game was fantastic !!!

  • Unbelievable

by Scott on 1/8/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the greatest sporting events I've been to. I loved mostly everything about this event, including the final score of the game (GO STARS!!) The seats were great, and the facility was run pretty decently, considering they don't often accommodate 85k fans for an event. They did a great job of getting people from the far end of the parking lots to the front of the Cotton Bowl (however, they didn't do such a good job after the game.) The biggest issue of the whole day was the concessions. I don't know if the company was hired that did the Fyre Festival, but it looked just like it. I got in a food line at the end of the 1st period and by the time I got back to my seats with food, there was 5 minutes left in the 2nd period. It shouldn't have taken 45 minutes to get food. Many of the concession stands were out of food and beer by the 1st intermission and had to use duct tape on the price board to cover stuff up. Embarrassing.

  • Everything outside the Cotton Bowl was awful.

by Chip on 1/8/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 2 out of 5

The NHL needs to learn how to plan ahead. Everything inside the Bowl (game etc was great) Outside, in the fairgrounds was horrible. They had 2 (yes 2) locations for purchasing memorabilia, and after the 1st period one of them only took cash. Are you kidding me, 85000 fans and only two stores? In addition one of them (the NHL semi) was placed in such a way the the purchase lines stretched right into the middle of the main flow of people entering the venue. NHL needs to do a much better job.

  • Exceptional event!

    by J. L. on 1/7/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

We found the event to be well planned and executed including pre-communications, parking and security. The one drawback was access to programs and other Stars items on sale - the lines were much too long. We'd do it again!

  • D*Stars wins it, Fair Park wings it

    by Jason B. on 1/7/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

Outdoor hockey is great: 1 star. NHL specialty game coming to Texas is wonderful: 2 stars. Hometown team winning is fantastic: 3 stars. Getting to say' "I was there" is stupendous: 4 stars. Event operators not openening Cotton Bowl up until 90 min before puck drop forcing thousands of folks to cram into mostly blocked-off Fair Park waiting to get in so as to not enjoy neat, albeit unsigned, pregame festivities: not 5 stars. Good thing poeple were in good spirits, the weather cooperated (outdoor hockey in Texas!!) and there were plenty of 'satellites'

  • Terrible Execution

by Stars fan on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 2 out of 5

The setup for the game was awful. It took over an hour to get through the line into the fair grounds. That line continued all the way into the stadium taking another 45 minutes. The bathroom lines and food lines were the same. The majority of the experience was waiting in lines. Not worth it.

  • Great time, must experience

    by A.P. Ottawa on 1/6/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

outdoor game was awesome, it was fun to watch an outdoor game in a packed stadium while not freezing unlike centennial game in Ottawa a couple years ago. 2 great fan bases.

  • SO COOL

What a cool experience to be able to attend the Winter Classic in Dallas! While the crowds were overwhelming, the Stars put on an awesome show!
