About

For the first time in League history, the National Hockey League (NHL) will host outdoor hockey in Florida. Celebrating the explosive growth of hockey in Florida over the last three decades, the League will stage two outdoor games in the Sunshine State during the 2025-26 season starting with the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic featuring the Florida Panthers hosting the New York Rangers at loanDepot park, on Jan. 2, 2026.

The 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic will mark the first-ever NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Panthers and the sixth for the Rangers, who hold an NHL-best 5-0-0 record in outdoor games. The NHL Winter Classic continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2026 edition marking the 17th NHL Winter Classic.

  • Fantastic 2019 Winter Classic!

by sassy on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 5 out of 5

The 2019 Winter Classic was great! First Hockey game in Notre Dame's Football Stadium was fantastic. Great Set-up throughout the area. Weather was good - cold, but no precipitation and no wind. Good fans, good entertainment, and GREAT Hockey teams ! Loved the day even though the Bruins conquered the Blackhawks!

  • Game was great, everything around it was uneventful

by Jojo on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

Game was great, win or lose. I heard from attendees who had gone to previous Winter Classics that there was typically bands and things going on around the event, but since they decided to host fan events in Millennium Park in Chicago, there was nothing going on around the stadium at all. During the game, the bands the brought out during intermission were great. Since ND stadium was a college stadium that normally doesn't server beer or have taps, it appears they didn't prepare and people said most stands on the 2nd level ran out of beer just after the start of the 2nd period. The walking beer vendors were only visible before the game, none during the game or other intermissions at all. People also said most stands ran out of food too, and the ones with any food had 25 minute waits. Still, if you just enjoy the game, it was fun and lively, and people I attended with and I had a great time.

  • Great venue

by Steveo on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

The only drawback, they ran out of beer midway through the second period. Not sure if it was just our section/side or the whole arena. Other than that, had a great time, ice looked great, got to see Weezer lip sync...

  • Awesome Experience and Venue, Poor Planning

by ScubaSteve on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

The NHL Winter Classic is something special and it was just that again this year. The game and the atmosphere around it was awesome. It was at an iconic stadium with two Original 6 teams. Concerts during the intermission and an all-in-all great game. There were negatives. First, the obvious. Running out of Food and Beer during the 1st intermission. How can a stadium that regularly hosts sold out football games not be prepared for this. I know beer is not usually sold there, so I will slightly give that a pass, but to not even have a hot dog or pretzel available after only 1/3 of the game. Come on. Also, wish they would have had vendors/booths outside for fans or kids to experience hockey and enjoy the experience some more. They had this in Chicago a couple days before the game, but it just wasn't the same as being at the game. I still wouldn't change my decision of attending since it is something I will never forget, just wish for a couple changes.

  • Dissapointing

by joe on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 1 out of 5

Spent more than one and half hours waiting in line for food and beverages, only to be told we are out!!!! This was the worst run sporting event I have attended. The place was WAY under staffed and extremely unorganized. This was an embarrassment for the NHL/ND and Blackhawks. I would never spend that kind of money on a ND/NHL/Blackhawks game again.

  • Winter Classic

    by J. K. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 1 out of 5

It was a good game and the seating was fun. The traffic in and out was terrible. Like ND/SB never had a big event before. The concession debacle was inexcusable. The NHL/ND should be ashamed of the event.

  • Bridgestone Classic

    by L. M. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

The tailgating and game atmosphere was very good. The NHL should have been more aware that the University would be short of staff for this event due to people being gone for Christmas break The concession lines were too long because of this. When school is in events like this are well staffed and the lines at concession stands are almost non existent

  • Would not go again to same venue

    by C. S. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 2 out of 5

It was a bad venue. Ran out of beer & food. Rest room lines were insane. Add porta poties? For the amount paid for ticket it was not good. Game was good but spent half the time in line. Went in 2014 to Michigan Stadium. Better expierience.

  • No Food, No Drink

by SSide on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

Game was great, minus refs in 3rd period, but running out of food and drink by start of 2nd period, and traffic in and out was horrible. Poor stadium management

  • Great Experience - Concessions Could be Better

    by T. C. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

As far as the event itself, it was amazing. Notre Dame is a beautiful campus and nice stadium. The only thing I can think of to improve was the concessions. Lines were way too long (45 minutes or so) and they ran out of food and beverages. Surprised me since you would think that they would have this part down because of all the football games.

  • Great show at Notte Dame Stadium

by Paul L on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first New Years Day Winter Classic and it was at the iconic Notre Dame Stadium, checking off 2 bucket items on my list. The seats were great, the reserved parking easily accessible with quick in and out and the weather was perfect. The back and forth game was fun to watch - if only the Blackhawks could have performed better for the win. We were glad we grabbed something to eat at the stadium before the game started as we heard others find out there was a food supply shortage during the game. A sell out crowd of 74,000 and shortage of stadium food service personnel was not a good mix. Overall very happy with this experience!

  • Great time, but Notre Dame dropped the ball...

by Stepside on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

Great time and a great game. Concessions were an absolute nightmare and it totally ruined the experience for myself and my children. Running out of everything and insanely long lines the entire game. Very disappointed

  • Notre Dame not prepared

    by J. K. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 2 out of 5

Notre Dame was not at all prepared for this event and it’s very disappointing. We had planned on tailgating but it took us so long to get to the stadium after we exited the highway that we didn’t even have a chance to. There was no one directing traffic into the parking lots. Then, once we entered the stadium and found out our seats were benches, we were packed together like sardines and unable to move. The concession and beer lines were over an hour long. Many concession stands weren’t even open. Clearly, Notre Dame was not prepared for this volume of people, and I felt my experience was greatly impacted.

  • Great great amazing venue

by Mbourque on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great the venue was unbelievable. The biggest issue I had was when they ran out of food and drinks by the end of the first period. Regardless if you sat in the nosebleeds or the front row, it was nothing to eat or drink in a very unprepared for this event. I was very pleasantly surprised that regardless of where your tickets were, you had a great view of the Winter classic!

  • Excellent game....

by rllrhcky19 on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

The game and venue were fantastic, as many outlets have reported the logistics were a bit of a mess. There were not enough vendors on hand, not enough staff at the stations (I got inline to buy merchandise waited 10 minutes and got out because a line that wasn't all that long hadn't moved at all.) My guess is the exiting plan for the traffic was typical of a Notre Dame game, and didn't plan for a crowd largely coming in from the Chicago area as we got out of the parking lot and off the campus quickly when you consider the amount of people at the game, but were routed something like 30 minutes out of the way to get back to the highway.. Those were really the only draw backs of the game, they weather cooperated, the views to the game were good, and it was a close game though a little sloppy.. Ideally moving forward I think the NHL should keep the games closer to the hosting team, and a larger city with more amenities and lodging options etc to add to the experience.

  • Great game but the rest a mess

by Awhi on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

Parking was a nightmare. No directions and stagnate traffic. Waiting in line for concessions entire first intermission and second period at a stadium that deals with this many people weekly - unacceptable. I can only think it was not Norte Dame normal crew. Merchant lines were just as bad. Unlike other winter games, there were no activities outside the field leading up to game day. The hockey game itself was great - and Norte Dame is gorgeous, but everything outside of that was an awful experience.

  • Great Experience

by Jenny M on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 5 out of 5

Once in a lifetime experience!! Had a great time with the family!! Would do it again. My only issue is that the stadium needed more food vendors. Most stands ran out of food, water and pop. How do you not order enough food and drinks?

  • Winter Classic

by Panzer on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

Purchasing tickets was easy. Plenty of notifications of when they went on sale. Would’ve been nice to see the same for parking. Didn’t see that until just before the game. Getting to the venue was easy and getting into the stadium was surprisingly quick. Definitely needed more bathrooms (ports johns). Also needed more memorabilia stands, food and drink stands. Needed more good beer... ran out of Blue Moon by end of first period and all beer by end of second period. Bands were eh. I understand the thought behind having the game at Notre Dame, but the stadium is old and not equipped to handle a crowd like that. That being said, it was a good size field as you weren’t that far from the ice like other outdoor games. That should be the most important factor—fan proximity to the ice. Overall an enjoyable experience; just could’ve been better prepared for the crowd.

  • Great Winter Classic

by DBear 45385 on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 5 out of 5

It was an awesome experience! The weather, the stadium, the crowd, and especially the game itself. A beautiful life event.

  • Mostly Great

by Joe on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

Entry was easy with the mobile tickets. Concession lines were long and slow. How a place that regularly sells out the stadium could run out of food after 2 periods is puzzling. I also heard complaints that nearby neighborhoods which normally allow parking on game days were tow away zones for this event. The game itself was a good experience. The entertainment between periods was ok. The weather was perfect for such an event. Overall, I enjoyed it.
