About

For the first time in League history, the National Hockey League (NHL) will host outdoor hockey in Florida. Celebrating the explosive growth of hockey in Florida over the last three decades, the League will stage two outdoor games in the Sunshine State during the 2025-26 season starting with the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic featuring the Florida Panthers hosting the New York Rangers at loanDepot park, on Jan. 2, 2026.

The 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic will mark the first-ever NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Panthers and the sixth for the Rangers, who hold an NHL-best 5-0-0 record in outdoor games. The NHL Winter Classic continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2026 edition marking the 17th NHL Winter Classic.

  • Winter Classic

    by Shoremen34 on 1/30/18Citi Field - FlushingRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great but extremely disappointed in the fact that my tickets were not printed on the commemorative stock that the majority of ticket holders received their tickets on. The tickets were printed on standard stock which does not present a nice keepsake like the commemorative stock would have.

  • Poor venue

Being unfamiliar with baseball stadiums, I expected the sightlines from our seats to be much better than they were. We weren't able to see the ice surface well at all. This was a big letdown.

  • Winter Classic

Lots of fun. Unique event and a Ranger win!! However logistics were terrible. 40 bucks to park. Rude ushers and security. Arbitrary rules Closed concessions. Ran out of coffee and hot chocolate at most stands prior to face off. Terrible planning and bad customer service.

  • Awesome Awesome!

This has been on my bucket list for 10 years. It did not disappoint! Yes it was BEYOND cold, but worth every minute of it. Seeing the Stanley Cup was like the Holy Grail. My picture with Jeremy Roenick was SO cool. I would do it again in a heartbeat. LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

  • Winter classic foul ball.....

by SlapshotRizzo on 1/8/18Citi field - FlushingRating: 2 out of 5

The park did absolutely nothing to combat the intense sub zero temperature, and did not have coffee available. However they did have $10.50 hot chocolate! I spent over $500 for nose bleed seats and froze my ass off. I feel the park completely cashed in and did not have customers well being in mind. Some propane heaters in common areas, complementary face warmers like the kind given at football games, disposable hand warmers.......any of these would have made my experience at citi field more memorable and comfortable

  • Disappointed in the ticket

Outstanding event. The atmosphere was amazing. Everyone was having fun and the cold made it an authentic Winter Classic. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars was our seats. We could not see the jumbo screen so we missed a lot. Even with a good view of the ice (right field, lower level) it was hard to see all the action due to the distance. We still had an amazing time and would do it again.

This was a freezing cold game, but totally worth it. Definitely an experience if you're a hockey fan and can stand the cold. Let's go Rangers!

  • Unforgettable day!

Great experience with my family. Was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

  • Game was excellent

by Battleaxmom on 1/6/18Citi Field - FlushingRating: 5 out of 5

It may have been cold but if you were well prepared it was fine. The game was terrific, it was like the NHL had scripted the out come. We had 16 of us there and could not have enjoyed it more. The only Negative was Citi Feild it self, No hot chocolate frozen bathrooms that were overflowing, only 1 gate open to exit. I would Definitely recommend if you get the chance go. Just not at Citi Feild

  • Best Day Ever....coldest day too!

by Valerbee on 1/5/18Citi Field - FlushingRating: 5 out of 5

Had a great time despite temp being 15 degrees with a below zero windchill. My son had a great time and said the winter classic was better than Disney!

  • The small details were lacking

by BoringTicketGuy on 1/5/18Citi Field - FlushingRating: 3 out of 5

The overall experience was very good. I thought the game was a great time and very entertaining. My seats had an advertisement board in front of them so I could not see the fans on the other side of the stadium, the sky, or any video boards or ribbons. The tv screen placed on the back of the advertisement was broken so I had no way of knowing how much time was left in a period nor could i see any replays. The lines for concessions and bathrooms were a bit long and took away from the game. I was EXTREMELY disappointed that I was issued a standard ticket rather than the special edition ticket made specific for this game. I received minimal help from all parties included in trying to obtain the proper ticket. The pregame activities, the quality hockey, and the family time salvaged this event for three stars.

  • The Winter Classic is AWESOME!

by Dancereviewer on 1/4/18Citi Field - FlushingRating: 5 out of 5

Despite the cold weather the Winter Classic was an awesome event. It's as good as it gets. The NHL did a masterful job of setting up the field and making it easy for people to get into the stadium and feel comfortable. Great job!

  • Winter Classic was amazing, venue not so much.

    by Willow088 on 1/4/18Citi Field - FlushingRating: 3 out of 5

Obviously, as a hockey fan, going to the Winter Classic was an unforgettable experience, one I would do again. I would only recommend this event to a hardcore fan, because overall the cold was miserable. My critique lies mostly with the venue, and how ill prepared they were to service that amount of people in absolutely frigid temperatures. The hot beverages (only coffee and hot chocolate) ran out by the end of the first period. Many of the bathrooms (the only heated spaces besides the merch stores) were "out of service" and should have been opened as a space to warm up even if the toilets themselves weren't working. Also, it was so cold people's beer cans were exploding, but no alternatives were available. The merch stores themselves only had a very limited amount of blankets that sold out extremely quickly and weren't selling hand warmers or any other warming product. On the positive end, Citi Field is well laid out for an event like this. Even the very upper level seats had clear views of the ice, so that was nice!

  • Outdoor Hockey is the Best

by BarbaraF on 1/4/18Citi Field - FlushingRating: 5 out of 5

Regardless that the temperature was very low, near ten degrees, and the wind is blowing hard, the game and the concept is great. We knew prior to the game that sitting in the stands would be brutal. After all, we are aware of the winds off the bay and the openness of Citi Field. We have attended several games at Citi and Shea each year. When we purchased the tickets in the autumn, there was the possibility of a raw day at the venue. Who knows how cold and windy the day would be. The weather conditions were so bad that the game rules had to modified. Instead of playing 20 minutes per period, the third period was changed to, in essence, two 10 minute periods to equalize the conditions to both teams. The same happened in overtime. Anyway, we have wanted to attend the Winter Classic for a couple of years. The Ranger Sabre game was a very good game. Always nice to have the Rangers start the scoring first which they did. Unfortunately, the Sabres tied the game and it became more exciting. It was even more exciting that the Rangers won in overtime. We would purchase tickets for another Winter Classic in the future. Hopefully, the conditions will be dramatically better.

  • Amazing sabres

by Rankovic on 1/4/18Citi Field - FlushingRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome event! Amazing winter classic! And lets go sabres!!!

  • Winter Classic 2017

by JKBHammy on 1/4/18Citi Field - FlushingRating: 5 out of 5

Great rink setup and location on the field, great entertainment, great game! Ace Freeley, the Goo Goo Dolls, Max Weinberg were all excellent. The taxi cabs on the field were a great touch to give the game a feel of taking place in the city. The "cop" dancing to YMCA among the cabs might have been the highlight of the show. The pregame fan zone could have used improvement.

  • Brrrr - Great Game!

Winter Classic 2018! It was great - freezing temps!

  • Winter Classic in Citi Field

by BudSabre on 1/4/18Citi Field - FlushingRating: 2 out of 5

It was a great event despite the cold, the lousy site lines for game and the fact it was more a Rangers home game then Buffalo Sabres. No home game do you ever hear visiting team goal song. Ticket buyers should have been told certain seats would not see the puck at all.
