About

For the first time in League history, the National Hockey League (NHL) will host outdoor hockey in Florida. Celebrating the explosive growth of hockey in Florida over the last three decades, the League will stage two outdoor games in the Sunshine State during the 2025-26 season starting with the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic featuring the Florida Panthers hosting the New York Rangers at loanDepot park, on Jan. 2, 2026.

The 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic will mark the first-ever NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Panthers and the sixth for the Rangers, who hold an NHL-best 5-0-0 record in outdoor games. The NHL Winter Classic continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2026 edition marking the 17th NHL Winter Classic.

  • Game Great, Concessions a mess

    by J. C. on 1/6/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

The game itself and the atmosphere was fantastic. The concession stands were a disaster. My group left with a minute left in the first period to go buy a hotdog and by the time they made it through the line, the intermission and most of the second period had passed. It was ridiculous how slow the lines moved. Outside of that, the game was awesome.

  • Disappointed

by Wootzer on 1/6/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 2 out of 5

While the game itself was absolutely amazing, I had so many issues with the stadium. I was so excited that this was held at Notre Dame but they were absolutely not prepared for this event. First, right off the bat we had issues with one of our tickets reading. It took one person A HALF HOUR to fix it. Once we were in we went to find our seats. There weren't any ushers to help with seating and NO ONE WAS IN THEIR CORRECT SEATS! our section spent a good hour arguing about what seat was what. This should not be an issue. Then, we went down to get beer, pop, and food. My husband missed two intermissions and the whole second period in line for concessions. When he arrived to the front of the line, they had run out of food soda and beer. This is absurd! It wasn't just that they ran out of everything but the workers were at a sloth pace! To host an event like this you need to be beyond prepared and they epically failed in all aspects. Lastly was the shuttle situation. They really needed to figure out a better way to handle traffic with the shuttles. We stood still on a shuttle for over a half hour to get down the road to the car. Like I said, the game was amazing and I am blessed to have been able to have been to the game. But the stadium experience was extremely disappointing

  • Winter classic

by Deb on 1/6/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 5 out of 5

Energy in the stadium was fun! The venue was fantastic! Food and drinks from what I hear were limited. I did not have an issue as we tailgated prior to the event.

  • Traffic Was a Nightmare

by BreedStick on 1/5/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

Overall, the Winter Classic experience itself (the hockey and venue) was fantastic, South Bend, however, is not setup to have 76,000 people traveling at one time. After the game, it took us over 1.5 hours to travel less than 5 miles to get to the main highway. I'm glad the game was a good time but I will seriously rethink going to another game like this unless I will be staying in a hotel close to the venue.

  • Awesome event

by Churchie on 1/5/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome game! Being a lifelong resident of South Bend, it turned into a hockeytown for the first time ever. Thank you NHL and Hawks and Bruins

  • Great game but concessions needs to pick up their game

by JImbo on 1/5/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

While the festivities were good and the the game was good ( except for the outcome ) concessions on the other hand was a bit of a mess . Lines were very long due to the fact that some booths were not properly staffed , they were running out of all food , pop , beer etc . Opted for a "hot" Pretzel due to the lack of available options and the pretzel was ice cold ..... You would have thought that they had never held a game at the stadium based on the concession staff .

  • Nothing better

by Chris on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 5 out of 5

Overall it was great. The down side was, seem like they were not really prepared for that size of a crowd. The staff there was really nice and great.

  • Our road trip to Notre Dame Go Hawks

    by L. C. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 5 out of 5

We traveled from the West Suburbs of Chicago. We are huge Hawks fans and its was so fun to watch them play at such a historic place. We have always wanted to go to a Winter Classic Hockey game to see the Hawks play, so it was really awesome that we could go this time. It will not be our last!

  • Great!

    by V. H. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing experience to be able to go to the game at Notre Dame! There were 76,000 people and I did not see anyone acting inappropriate. The crowd was nice and amazing! Sure there were some long lines for food and beverages but with that many people you could expect that. Everyone was more than patient. It was awesome!

  • Ugh

    by L. F. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 1 out of 5

It was a big disappointment! Crowd control was nonexistent! We stood in a line at the game store for over an hour only to see them sell out on most of what we wanted. Food was the same way... ran out of hot dogs and bottles of coke. Tried to carry fountain pop up the stairs but it was so crowded that people knocked them out of my hands.. seemed as if nobody was well prepared for the number of people that attended!

  • Game viewing was great. Concourses were a disaster.

    by C. E. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 2 out of 5

Lines were so long for everything (merchandise, food, beer, bathrooms). You couldn't even walk the concourses due the overflow of people.

  • Great Game But...

by Badandy37 on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

Game was awesome. I’m a Bruins fan so I’m happy they won but it was actually a good close game to the end. The stadium although nostalgic is horribly uncomfortable and the concessions are way overpriced as you stand in line forever. But it was otherwise an enjoyable experience.

  • What an amazing experience

by BRUINHUSKER on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

Man... what an experience. Loved being around all the hockey fans. Its to bad they ran out of concessions. Also, it was ridiculous trying to buy merchandise. It also was a nightmare getting out of the arena. However, I wouldnt of traded it for the world. Great experience!

  • Overall Fun and Memorable Experience

by Liz M on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

My husband and I had a pretty good experience at the Winter Classic. We had no trouble parking since we pre-bought a parking pass and getting into the stadium and to our seats was very easy. The food situation was not so great and I don't think the stadium vendors were well-prepared. The lines for food were so long you had to miss almost a whole period to get food, only to be told when it's your turn that the food you wanted was sold out, or you have to wait an additional 20 minutes for a hot dog. Watching the game was fun, though, and we would consider going back to watch a football game.

  • Missed the Entire Second Period

    by C. Z. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

It was way too cold. You guys should have built a roof for the game and heated the inside. Maybe speed up global warming next time. Just kidding. The game was great. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the once in a lifetime experience. But we did have some major issues with the following: the lines, the absence of TV's inside the corridors showing the game while waiting in the lines, and the fact that not all the concession stands were open. We waited in lines for probably close to 2 hours in total. We arrived at the stadium 2 hours prior to the puck drop and stood in the merchandise line for about 30 minutes. We then left with our new merchandise to get hot chocolate. This line was only a 10 minute wait thankfully but we then went for food. We stood there for about 30 minutes and decided to give up our places so we could watch the puck drop. My wife then left towards the end of the 1st period to go get food. I met her at the concessions after the first period ended and the line was excessively long. I couldn't even see the concession stand. We stood there the entire intermission and missed the Weezer concert, and then the game started up again. We were too hungry and too invested to give up our spots in line again so we were forced to miss the entire second period as well. We paid a lot of money for this experience and we didn't even get to see a third of the game and a concert we were really looking forward to. And it's not like this couldn't have been avoided. There were tons of closed concession stands, which shouldn't have been closed when the stadium was at 94% capacity. We are very unhappy about this and if it wasn't for the amazing hockey play by the teams, I would be rating this even a 1 star based on the wait times and what seemed like a lack of preparation by the event staff. What could have helped resolve this major problem is having tv's in the corridors so when you were forced to miss major chunks of the game or a great concert, you could at the very least watch it on a tv. If I had the opportunity to go to another Winter Classic at Notre Dame stadium, I wouldn't even bother wasting my time. I would watch it at home to make sure I wouldn't miss an entire period, including an intermission, waiting on some freaking food.

  • The game was fantastic and the stadium was mixed

    by K. R. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

Overall a great experience, but it was pretty impossible to get food or souvenirs without missing a lot of the game. So we opted for neither which was very disappointing. There should be more food locations to better serve the paying customers.

  • 2019 NHL Winter Classic

by South Side Bryan on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

Really enjoyed the game, a great atmosphere. The one huge drawback were the concessions. It was as if the venue did not expect people to buy food or drinks during the game. I waited 40 minutes at the concession stand outside section 110. No soft drinks, only water, beer and hot chocolate. For the admission prices, I would think the venue would be sure to be adequately staffed for a capacity crowd. Very dis appointed in the service at Notre Dame Stadium.

  • Had a nice time at the game.

    by D. R. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

As a season ticket holder for N.D. Football I was very familiar with the surroundings and was impressed with all the NHL work put into the Stadium. This was my second outdoor game for the Blackhawks and look forward to any future outdoor games scheduled for the Blackhawks.

  • Winter Classic

    by G. H. on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

They ran out of food in most of the concession stands 5 minutes into the 2nd period. That is unacceptable. I was told they ran out of beer no long after that. How is that possible?

  • As if they didn’t know how many people were coming...

by chrisvanb on 1/4/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 2 out of 5

How is it possible they had so much trouble with concessions? Notre Dame stadium never has trouble like that for football games and there certainly weren’t any more fans there for the hockey game than there are for football games. Lines were 50+ people deep, many concession stands closed before start of 3rd period because they were out of EVERYTHING. The NHL blew it with this one.
