About

For the first time in League history, the National Hockey League (NHL) will host outdoor hockey in Florida. Celebrating the explosive growth of hockey in Florida over the last three decades, the League will stage two outdoor games in the Sunshine State during the 2025-26 season starting with the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic featuring the Florida Panthers hosting the New York Rangers at loanDepot park, on Jan. 2, 2026.

The 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic will mark the first-ever NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Panthers and the sixth for the Rangers, who hold an NHL-best 5-0-0 record in outdoor games. The NHL Winter Classic continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2026 edition marking the 17th NHL Winter Classic.

  • INCREDIBLE

by ST on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I can’t say enough good things about the Winter Classic experience! The fact that it was at the Cotton Bowl was perfect. The fact that you could get intermission Fletcher’s corny dogs was perfect. The fact that it was on the grounds of the State Fair instead of, say, JerryWorld was perfect. I didn’t like all of the overly-Texas things even though I’m a native Texan because that’s not who we are at our core, but, having said that, the pig races were HILARIOUS! And to top it all off, A STARS WIN!

The opportunity to see a Winter Classic in my hometown with my son is probably a once in a lifetime occurrence. It was amazing.

  • Call it a comeback

This was one of the most fun experiences at a sporting event I have ever been to. That includes international Olympic qualifiers and World Series games. Dallas showed just how much of a hockey town it really is. The "traditional" hockey markets can close their eyes and cover their ears, but the Sunbelt has taken the sport to a whole new level.

  • No Stars for the Winter Classic

    by BMC74 on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 2 out of 5

Was excited to attend this once in a lifetime event. Seats were so far away my wife and son could not see any of the game. We had to watch it on the big screen in the stadium. Fireworks went off and we would be engulfed in the smoke and have to wait for the pieces to fall back down. The crowds were large to be expected however 1 1/2 hours standing in line to just get in was unbelievable. We did not participate in any activities due to the lines. Traffic was not bad at all. The only positive from this experience was leaving at the 2nd intermission to beat traffic.

  • Amazing experience!!!

As a Texas native, it brought tears to my eyes to see this game in person. Everything was so well done, and as a Stars fan, I can truly be proud of how the organization worked with the NHL to make this an amazing experience I’m sure to never forget.

  • Winter Classic

by Dallas Ninja on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The game was fantastic!!! The crowd was electric. The Cotton Bowl as a facility was not great as we never were able to get anything to eat because the lines were way too long. We tried 4 tOnes to get food and left theine each time. If they and more food and merchandise places it would have been perfect

  • Production was great. Venue was terrible.

    by Emily K on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

The NHL put on a great production with great aesthetics, events, and activities. However, the Cotton Bowl stadium showed its age because it was incredibly difficult to navigate. Lines overlapped and took up most of the walkways. Because the flow of foot traffic was so bad, the lines moved at a painfully slow pace making myself and others miss much of the game. Hopefully, Minneapolis will have a venue better suited for the drinking/snacking/partying of the 21st century.

  • Once in a lifetime!

What an amazing experience to have professional hockey outdoors on New Year’s Day in Dallas with 85,630 fans in attendance. Truly a once in a lifetime experience that my son and I will treasure our entire lives!

  • Absolutely Awesome Day!

I've been to every Winter Classic and this one was up there with the best of them. The city of Dallas should be commended for rolling out the red carpet for NHL fans. If you've never attended a WC game make plans to go next year no matter where it is, you will not regret the decision to do it.

  • Great event

by John on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

The weather was perfect for outdoor hockey, but the crowd control could've been better. There were too many choke points in the Fan Zone and inside the arena.

  • Winter Classic

Wonderful experience. Only negatives were the train and trying to enter the stadium. So glad I was able to experience a Winter Classic! So much fun!

Very proud of the Stars organization and the city of Dallas

  • A game to remember, but...

by Anthony on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

The expected crowd seemed to have exceeded the crowd that was planned for. Moving through the crowd into and out of the Midway and into the stadium was miserable. I arrived at approximately 10am and wading through that crowd cost me my entire pregame experience. The game itself was presented beautifully. You couldn't have asked for better. Go Stars!

  • It's Like They Didn't Think Anyone Was Coming

by GratefulMike on 2/20/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 2 out of 5

I got to campus early as I do for football games. However, everything seemed to be closed. There was nothing to do before the game except tailgate. Also, there were many roads closed leading to campus. These roads are open for football games. I realize school was not in session, but there was nowhere to even get any food or coffee. The game was fine but the concessions ran out of everything by the end of the first period. If there a future hockey game at Notre Dame Stadium, please make sure the concessions are properly stocked.

  • Awesome Experience

by Reader freak on 1/23/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first NHL game ever. I loved the outdoor experience. The music was cranking. The fans were pumped. The weather cooperated. The NHL put on quite a show. There was music, interviews with players and sideline fan entertainment. I am a Hawks fan, and although I wish the end result was different, I'm glad to have the opportunity to experience this with my sons.

  • Fun Game

by BettyMac on 1/8/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 3 out of 5

Loved the atmosphere. The weather was great. I did find problems with the venue. Getting into the parking lots was taking too long, and not enough directions to them. People were waiting a full period in line to get a beer, and then they were out of beer. I don't feel the traffic getting out of there was handle very well either. It took us 2 hours just to get on the highway because they funneled everyone onto a road going east (we needed to go west) for about 4.6 miles before we could even get to the highway. There must be a better way.

guys how do you run out of food?!?!?! alcohol, i'm not surprised, since the stadium doesn't sell alcohol at sporting events, so i'm assuming they didn't order enough. i,m not sure why you didn't call either team and calculate an estimate of alcohol to buy. but the food is the serious issue, i'm sure the stadium and management should have been better prepared to accommodate the number of people, since the stadium probably has seen these numbers with football games.

  • Great event & atmosphere - poor execution by ND

by Joe Freda on 1/7/19Notre Dame Stadium - South BendRating: 4 out of 5

The event was fantastic - the fact that 76,000 fans were there for a hockey game at Notre Dame created an amazing atmosphere. It was a good, close game, which made it even better. Even with having to clear security it was relatively easy to get into the stadium. However, the event staff at Notre Dame stadium appeared to have never hosted this many people before...which of course is untrue. Lies for concessions were excessively long. Ad the worst part was food ran out by the end of the first period and most beverages ran out by the end of the second. How ND can be considered such an iconic stadium but then operate like a two-bit arena is unbelievable. I would definitely attend another Winter Classic...but will never attend another event at ND.
