About

For the first time in League history, the National Hockey League (NHL) will host outdoor hockey in Florida. Celebrating the explosive growth of hockey in Florida over the last three decades, the League will stage two outdoor games in the Sunshine State during the 2025-26 season starting with the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic featuring the Florida Panthers hosting the New York Rangers at loanDepot park, on Jan. 2, 2026.

The 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic will mark the first-ever NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Panthers and the sixth for the Rangers, who hold an NHL-best 5-0-0 record in outdoor games. The NHL Winter Classic continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2026 edition marking the 17th NHL Winter Classic.

  • Great game, poor facilities & vending

by Okie Hockey Fan on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 2 out of 5

The game experience was fantastic even though my team did not win. The fan interaction was mainly positive- only one Stars fan that took exception to us as opposing fans. However, most fan interaction between rivals was jovial and upbeat. The positives: The game itself was fun and a joy to experience. The in-game entertainment, live musical performances and others, were fantastic. The negatives: The parking for one. I purchased parking passes prior to the game for parking within the venue. The locations were poorly marked and I had to u-turn, after waiting in a lengthy line, because I went into the wrong (unmarked) entrance. Secondly, the food vending and restroom facilities were nothing short of horrible. I made several attempts to wait in extended lines (read: cattle call) to simply use the bathroom. Eventually, I had to leave the stadium (& miss portions of the game) to use a porta-potty outside the stadium. Lastly, my wife and kids missed an entire period standing in line to get corn dogs (at an $80 price tag, I must add). Every food line was a jumbled mess, despite having vendors inside and outside the venue. It was apparent that the Cotton Bowl was an inadequate venue for the Winter Classic & organizers failed on the part of accommodating fans in a timely manner. I would love to attend similar events if they are better organized and are never held at the Cotton Bowl. My family spent a LOT of time, money, and effort to attend the game and I felt I was let down by the lack of organization.

  • Great Game, Bad Planning

by Alex on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 2 out of 5

The game itself was great, but the way they planned the concessions were horrible. Every single line was outrageously long and places were even running out of food. It took us over 45 minutes to get two corn dogs and that was the short line. We missed an entire period and almost all of an intermission. If you go to the cotton bowl stadium for an event, eat before you go or you’ll miss out on what you paid to see. I’ve been to events with 100,000 people in attendance and never had this issue. You need to work on this Dallas.

Great event, great experience, great weather, great crowd! Texas LOVES hockey!

  • Overall Epic

    by Clay J. on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

Off the top, this is a MUST for any hockey fan to do at least once. It’s memorable, for sure. There is a lot of production value in this. Some of it is hokey. All of it is part of the experience. The concerts were awesome. I had never heard of Midland, but now I’m a huge fan. Dan and Shay were great for the younger pop-country fans. The seats from the 60th row, from near center ice were perfect. I couldn’t imagine sitting behind the goals/end zone and low. Those seats had to be wildly obstructed. For the events leading up to the game; 83,000 people were trying to do all of the same 20 things. The line for a photo with the cup is literally all we had time for and we got there right as the gates opened at 9am. Stood in line for that photo for nearly two hours before we made our way into the stadium which was another hour long funnel of people trying to get through one gate (we had all already been through security and scanned our tickets to get into the “fair”, this was just a 20’ doorway for 83,000+ people to filter through. Everybody was stopping for selfies on the stairway, so that was most of the delay. Once inside, I was reminded that college stadiums are built for 20 year old undergrads, who I imagine in the 1930s when the cotton bowl was built, were all 5’6” and 110lbs. The bench seats were not exactly comfort for a 6’4” 230lb adult. I imagine some had a much harder time than I did. The weather was perfect for hockey. Cold enough, but not miserably freezing. But thank goodness it didn’t rain. Overall... epic.

  • Great game but

by Lauren on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

The game itself was fantastic! However, the experience of taking the DART, getting into Fair Park, and attempting to move around Fair Park and the Cotton Bowl was a nightmare. There was not enough available space in the fair grounds to accommodate such a large crowd and the lines for anything were taking an hour+.

  • Memorabilia

by Ronald on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

I had a great time at the Winter Classic, with the exception of the incredible long lines at the NFL trailer to buy things like shirts, programs, etc. There was no planning. lines were intermixing with each other. There should have been crowd control in that area and stanchions to separate the lines. There was no order, people cutting thru to get to the other side.I stood in line for an hour and by the time I got up to the counter many of the items were gone. One being a Winter Classic Scarf.

  • Winter Classic game

    by Soccergal88 on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great and entertainment but the food and beer lines were outrageous. Waiting 30+ minutes in line was not what I wanted to do so improving the lines. Also leaving was mad house felt like bearded cows leaving.

  • Amazing Day

Everything about the event was well done and we felt lucky to be able to be part of NHL history. Such a great experience!!

  • Championship Game Atmosphere

by PleaseStandClearoftheDoor on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Besides the Midway being extremely crowded before the game, everything about this Winter Classic was awesome! Outdoor hockey with 85,630 fans in the Cotton Bowl and a Stars comeback victory to boot was absolutely amazing. This game was definitely one of my top four sports experiences!

  • Winter Awesomeness

    by R. G. on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

What an opportunity to attend such an event! From the beginning till the end, we had such a great time. It was so cool seeing all of the Stars fans in one place! The Predator fans travel well and we’re easily recognizable in their yellow sweaters. It was a visual spectacle! Plus, the Stars won!

Glad to be there and what a day! Watching 85k ppl explode when the stars score was an impressive thing to see.

  • Great Game but...

by Chemistry Kid on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

The game between the Stars and Predators was awesome with play going back and forth. The atmosphere was great. I have been to four Winter Classics and the fans at this one were the most enthusiastic. The only problem I had with the event was I don't think they planned properly for the size of the crowd. They did not have all of the gates open and it took an hour and a half to get from the midway into the stadium. The Stanley Cup display was at the far end of the midway. With the crowd all funneled down one area and with the lines for the rides or concession, it made it very difficult to walk. All that being said, I would go again.

  • Once in a lifetime experience

    by J. N. on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The winter classic was the best hockey game I’ve ever been too in my life. Hearing 85,000 people chanting “Dallas” “Stars” as the team walked out was something I’ll never forget. The experience was just surreal.

  • Not prepared

by Misty on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 2 out of 5

Crowd control was obsolete and was extremely hard trying to make your way through. It took almost an hour to get to our seats after getting in the gate. The concession line was ridiculous and was another reason why it was so hard to get to our seats. After trying to get food unsuccessfully, we ended up leaving because we didn’t want to fight the crowd to get back to our seats. The game was the only good thing about the experience.

  • Amazing Event

by Ireland on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The winter classic was so awesome, it is just a really cool and exciting event. My only complaint is I wish Ticketmaster would show what sections are being sold to the away team season ticket holders so if you don’t Accidentally get mixed into their crowd. We did and it turned out great still. We had some heathy bantering back and forth. Anyway, the game itself was unbelievable.

  • Everything was AWESOME!!!

  • Incredible Experience

by RadDaddyClayClay on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I are "Die Hard" Dallas Stars fans and bought tickets as soon as we knew they were playing in the Winter Classic. We had never been to a Winter Classic, but it was well worth it! It was SO incredible to see that many people at an outdoor hockey game in Texas! The venue was historical, everyone was polite, and the energy in the air was simply overwhelming! It was perfect.

This was the perfect way to start the new year. The state fair bit was amazing and so was the atmosphere. Go Stars! Please bring this back!

  • Fantastic Expereince

    by P.Weaver on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

The event itself was fantastic, everyone in my party very much enjoyed the day. Unfortunately, the line to entry the Cotton Bowl stadium were ridiculous and took us over 45 minutes to enter the stadium. the crowd was so large and dense that we felt very unsafe. Furthermore, concession lines during the game were very long and slow, it took me over 25 minutes to purchase food.

  • Unforgettable start to the decade

Spectacular experience from start to finish. Huge crowd all there for the same reason. Best day ever.
