About

For the first time in League history, the National Hockey League (NHL) will host outdoor hockey in Florida. Celebrating the explosive growth of hockey in Florida over the last three decades, the League will stage two outdoor games in the Sunshine State during the 2025-26 season starting with the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic featuring the Florida Panthers hosting the New York Rangers at loanDepot park, on Jan. 2, 2026.

The 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic will mark the first-ever NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Panthers and the sixth for the Rangers, who hold an NHL-best 5-0-0 record in outdoor games. The NHL Winter Classic continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2026 edition marking the 17th NHL Winter Classic.

  • Best Hockey Experience Ever!!!!

    by G Guelda on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I’m from Louisville and my team has always been the Dallas Stars.I lived in Dallas in the mid nineties and everything that goes on there is top notch. This game and the atmosphere surrounding it was no exception. The intermission entertainment was very good. The State Fair midway was open and their famous food was available. The only thing I’m disappointed in is that it won’t be there again next year.Could not have been better!!!

  • Overall great experience

by Cindi on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Would not trade the experience as a whole. Crowd control definitely could have been a ton better, and concessions needed to be more well staffed and made more availabe in the arena.

  • Every hockey fan should experience this!

    by Matt B on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

The atmosphere was incredible. 85k fans involved in the game and off ice activities. Great representation from the Predators fans as well. Seats turned out better than expected for watching the game and only one of the seats had any restricted view which was as minimal as leaning to the side briefly. The shortcoming of the event was crowd control and WiFi/LTE access. The crowd bogged down the network and made having the fan app almost useless as the game got going. The off ice event was fun but because only part of the fair ground area was open the crowd would bottleneck in the midway area and the main gate. With the LTE almost nonexistent any alternative access points to the stadium or around the midway bottlenecks was not possible because the map on the fan app was unavailable. The post game off ice activities stayed open late enough for us to enjoy most of them after the game. Overall was an awesome experience and we would no doubt do it again, even if had to fight the crowd again. It’s that much fun!!!

  • great game...horrible infrastructure

by starsfan on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

From the moment we couldn't make our way thru the Midway, to the concession stand running out of peanuts, water, and cheese for the nachos, you could tell someone had not thought this out. Modano signing autographs in a pub were under 21 was not allowed was ridiculous! Kids turned away because they were not old enough! BUT!!! Once you're in the Cotton Bowl and in your seat - one of the greatest games/events I have seen. Awesome pre-game flyover, Troy and Ricky dropping the puck, and Jake singing the Natl Anthem! Then the entire crowd, (well, minus the Pred fans) all singing along to Garth's - Friends In Low Places! AND THE STARS WINNING!!!!!

  • Perfect Day!!

    by Julie M on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

This day was great from start to finish. The pregame had lots of activities and the game itself had nonstop action even during the intermissions and tv time outs. It will be remembered for a lifetime!

Great game. Great environment. Great weather. Just a old old old venue. If you needed to go to the restroom or get anything to eat or drink, good luck.

  • Experience

by Hockeyproof on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The Winter Classic was the best Stars game that I have ever attended in since the upcoming in 1993. It was the best experience to ever see and the weather was nice even though no human in the world has control of the weather. The displays were awesome and loved the respect of the two teams at the end of the game. I would love to see the Winter Classic come to Dallas again. The Ice was kept up well with the semi warm weather in the high 40's and low 50's. I hope that it will come back down to Dallas again.

Over 85 thousand people showed up in Dallas, Tx at the Cotton Bowl for an outdoor Hockey game and it was amazing! The weather was perfect and the atmosphere was electric. I'll never forget it! The only downside was the crowd control.

  • Best Sporting Experience Ever

by Texas Cat Daddy on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to a LOT of games over the years, but nothing compared to the Classic. And to have the Stars come back like that, wow!! If you get the chance to go to this game in the future, take it!

  • Winter Classic

    by K. on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Wow, what a day! The most fun I’ve had in a really long time, partaking in that environment with over 85,000 people! Great day for Stars fans and the organization. Preds and their fans weren’t so bad either. Let’s do it again soon!

  • Great game

by Easttxman on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

Idea was great execution needed some help. Loved that they opened the fair grounds and had events planned before the gates opened. The problem was it was a very small area for way too many ppl. You couldnt move without being shoulder to shoulder with ppl. I asked a staff member where the Stanley Cup was located and they didnt even know. Consession stands were way under staffed. 2hrs to get a corn dog is crazy. The entertainment was awesome and well thought out but pre-game was horrible.

  • Over all a great event

    by rlindsey51 on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

Parking around the event was easy and very close. Getting into the event was hassle free. Leaving the event was the most troublesome. Only one open gate near the north gate by the DART. People waiting on the DART blocked the gate for those who parked in the nearby parking areas. waited 25 minutes to exit to get to our vehicle

  • Great event

  • Winter Classic was Outstanding

by DWD on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Perfect weather, great seats, great crowd, great entertainment and GREAT GAME STARS! Only change for next time...be better prepared for the crowds (yes, hockey in the South is here to stay).

  • Great in the stands / not so much everywhere else

    by Jengel18 on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 2 out of 5

Great atmosphere when in the seats (game and music and entertainment). Insanely long food lines and fair grounds not a smart place for the crowd (too many people at once - no room to move). Love the Winter Classic - just need to be considerate of the fan base when location selecting in the future.

  • Winter Classic was amazing!

    by Robbyd07 on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

It was an amazing event and venue! I took my 6yr old and had the most fun I’ve ever had at a sporting event!

  • Game great, Cotton Bowl fail

by Jo on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

The game and atmosphere were great. The rodeo stuff fun. *But the Cotton Bowl facility was not prepared for that crowd.* You could NOT walk around because of food lines clogging the path. It took over an hour and a half to get inside the stadium. And nearly an hour for food. The food stations were not labeled properly and some looked low on food. There was zero cell reception. I overheard many people complaining that the credit card machines were failing after being in line for so long, and I’ve seen one report of someone finding fraudulent charges on their debit card after using the ATM there. I’ve been to major sporting events with around Texas at different stadiums that handle crowds bigger than this far better. This was downright embarrassing.

  • Overall great experience

by sd on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

The event overall was a great experience, the family had a great time and the game was good. However, whoever designed the seats in this stadium must've been 4 feet tall. There's no way an average human could sit down and have their knees forward and not be slammed against the backs of the row in front of them. Also, there's no way an average person could sit in the width allotted per seat on the benches. It's obvious that the goal was to sell tickets, not a comfortable experience.

  • Once in a lifetime.

by Dave on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

This event was amazing. One of the best experiences I’ve had. The crowd shouting Stars during the anthem was awesome. I wish they would have opened up more of the park and not funneled so many people to the midway, but all in all a great experience.

  • 2020 Winter Classic

by Brandon on 1/4/20Cotton Bowl - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I’ve been going to hockey games for 23 years, and this was the best one by far. From the crowd, to the atmosphere, to the attractions, it was euphoric. 85,000 of the most passionate fans, at one of the best venues for a sports game. Pig racing, live music, rides, completions, it was surreal. The stars couldn’t have put on a better event. It was the most professional and fun event I’ve been to. The only draw back was, some parts of the venue were way too crowded due to the mass amount of guests. But overall it was a 9.9/10
