Great and realistic play that encompases the turmoil that a family may encounter in our society and day in age. It has comedy, drama and emotions. Great for a family with teenagers!

    My favorite Broadway show!

by lbj2 on 5/12/15Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Excellent - great theater for this show - sort of small and intimate, without being a small theater.

Next to normal is a very powerful show, and this cast did a beautiful job of portraying the characters. One of the most beautiful shows I've ever seen.

    Better than Dinner

by AmericanJaws1 on 5/9/15Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

My wife and I were reluctant to reenter this forum after the poor performance of "Peter and the Star catcher" , but and only because tickets were already purchased. We gave this center theatre another shot. We were pleasantly surprised. Honestly, we were pleasantly overwhelmed with the caliber of excellence these performers had in their souls. Thank you...you have restored our faith in theatre in this state. Whew! "Next to normal" with THIS cast (at least) wasn't any less than outstanding! A worthy show that expresses a message about mental health (somewhat subliminally) and provides the extroverted message that NOT all people are what we think they may be. That ...maybe we should just simply love and support each other without judging by first impression. This was an outstanding show, my wife and I heartily recommend everyone to see. Thank you so much for your wonderful performances.

    THE GIRLS LOVED IT!

by GA1234 on 5/6/15Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

The wife and I purchased tickets for our daughter and a friend. I felt any of the prices were fair for any seat because the quality of the venue and show is incredible. The girls were blown away by the show. They sat second row balcony, but said you could have seen the show well from anywhere. It is a great venue. The cast signed autographs and took pictures with them afterwards which made the experience so much better. There was also off duty Raleigh Police for security...Thanks guys!

    Great story

by RyuJin07 on 5/5/15Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I thought Next To Normal told a great story with an interesting and unexpected plot twist. Once you find out why the mother is bipolar it makes all of the other characters roles even more dramatic. The daughter's role gave the musical an extra comical snap. Some of the rock numbers didn't really fit to my liking, but overall it was a god musical all the way through.

    Great cast!

by 1gsa on 5/4/15Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

The cast was fantastic! Great singing & acting! The music was very good! Fletcher theater is excellent... great view and sound! The story could have been written better. With only 5 characters, it is important that character and story development are done well. The second half was particularly poor. Some of the lines of thought and character development were disturbing and flawed in my opinion. I would not see this again and could not recommend it to someone else.

This play was suggested to me by a friend and i took another dear friend with me to see this play in limited showing in Boston MA. I can't rate this play highly enough or begin to give enough praise. All i am waiting for is it to come back to Boston so I can bring my daughter and one of my dearest friends to witness this GEM.

This musical was fantastic and real. I recommend it to anyone in the health professions especially, but really for anyone who is not deeply emotionally challenged.

The play was so moving and so loaded that my friends and I talked about it, long after it ended. We liked the way it modeled the complexity of life, and their voices were extraordinary!

    Next to Normal Reviw

by DBA2000 on 10/9/13Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

Love this dark musical. Susie McMonagle was fabulous....but the manic/underlying mental anguish of the character did not necessarily come through consistently. Rod Thomas' voice was tired...and he had a hard time reaching the notes. His portrayal was a little one dimensional. I never felt the husband's clear attempt at control/domination of his wife in order to deny the fact that he never grieved the death of his son. So when the wife left at the end it did not really make sense. Loved everybody else. I did see this on Broadway with the original cast though so that is a hard act to follow.

    Next to Normal

by Kaylyn12 on 10/8/13Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

What is normal these days? A portrait of a family having to deal with long term depression and how it plays out as the family grows and matures. The songs where well written and depicted the sediment. The actors and actresses had great voices. Very enjoyable for a difficult, but common scenario. Well done!
