New York Rangers History

The Rangers, one of the Original Six NHL teams, were founded in 1926 by Tex Rickard. According to legend, the New York media nicknamed the team “Tex's Rangers,” a play on the famed law enforcers Texas Rangers.

The team has won four Stanley Cup Championships, the first of which came in only their second season (1928) and the most recent in 1994, beating Vancouver in Game 7 to break a 54-year drought and send Cup-starved fans into a frenzy. The Rangers have also taken home four Presidents’ Trophies and won eight divisional championships—most recently winning both for the 2023-2024 season.

The Rangers' 2017-2018 campaign broke a string of seven consecutive seasons in which the team reached the Playoffs—including the 2013-2014 campaign, which ended in a five-game series loss to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Final.

Among the Hall of Famers to don the Rangers sweater are Andy Bathgate, Eric Lindros, Phil Esposito, and Wayne Gretzky. Twelve players have had their number retired by the team: Bathgate, Ed Giacomin, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves, Harry Howell, Brian Leetch, Mark Messier, Jean Ratelle, Mike Richter, Vic Hadfield, Henrik Lundqvist and Wayne Gretzky. Herb Brooks (1937-2003), who coached the Rangers from 1981-1985, also coached the U.S. Olympic hockey team to its "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union and on to a gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.

  • Nothing like playoffs at MSG!!!

by MrsDrummer on 4/24/24Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Great seats with great views, spectacular light show, fun fans, accessible vendors, courteous and accommodating staff, phenomenal action on the ice and a win to set the stage for the series! However, wish there was earlier access to seats other than just one hour prior to the puck drop and can never understand why the escalators do not work upon exiting the Garden!

  • Too expensive

Everything is way way too expensive. Cost a week’s vacation just to take a family of four to a game.

Watching the Rangers clinch home ice, the division, and the league was pretty amazing. The Garden is definitely the place to be when it comes to hockey season. Can't wait to see a new Stanley Cup banner in the rafters.

We got there early to watch the team warmup and the “blue crew” picked us to be part of a game and we won!! We were on the big screen and went home with a gift card! Everything was seamless and he had a memorable birthday!

Brilliant atmosphere all the way through. Had a great seat with perfect view. And the right team won. Great afternoon out.

  • Game was great - seat was terrible

by BB on 4/16/24Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

These seats are mostly blocked by a section of seating above. You cannot see any of the Jumbotron. You can see most of the rink but it should be well advertised that in this row you can’t see the big screens or screens around the arena. 2-3 rows closer make a huge difference in this section.

Over the past few Years I have been Blessed To take my Children to many Events @ “ The Worlds Greatest Arena” We have Always been treated as if we were VIP’s My Twins who are now 19 have Grown up @ MSG! My son who is a young man on the Autism Spectrum and who is 6’5’ 240 has “ Grown out” of fitting into most of the arena seats! We I have had multiple orthopedic Surgeries so I have the same issue! Enter , The Special Services ADA Team! No matter who we calked or had the Pleasure of working with The Results were Amazing! Yes it does cost a lot of money at times but it is So Worth It, for the Pure Joy My Children and I have experienced due to The Professionalism, Kindness and Compassion of the Administration, Staff and even some of the other Fans. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Is not enough for the Smiles on my Children’s Faces and being made to feel Respected by The MSG Team! Thank You and “ God Bless” You All, Respectfully, Eric “ Rock” Eisenberg!
