New York Rangers History
The Rangers, one of the Original Six NHL teams, were founded in 1926 by Tex Rickard. According to legend, the New York media nicknamed the team “Tex's Rangers,” a play on the famed law enforcers Texas Rangers.
The team has won four Stanley Cup Championships, the first of which came in only their second season (1928) and the most recent in 1994, beating Vancouver in Game 7 to break a 54-year drought and send Cup-starved fans into a frenzy. The Rangers have also taken home four Presidents’ Trophies and won eight divisional championships—most recently winning both for the 2023-2024 season.
The Rangers' 2017-2018 campaign broke a string of seven consecutive seasons in which the team reached the Playoffs—including the 2013-2014 campaign, which ended in a five-game series loss to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Final.
Among the Hall of Famers to don the Rangers sweater are Andy Bathgate, Eric Lindros, Phil Esposito, and Wayne Gretzky. Twelve players have had their number retired by the team: Bathgate, Ed Giacomin, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves, Harry Howell, Brian Leetch, Mark Messier, Jean Ratelle, Mike Richter, Vic Hadfield, Henrik Lundqvist and Wayne Gretzky. Herb Brooks (1937-2003), who coached the Rangers from 1981-1985, also coached the U.S. Olympic hockey team to its "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union and on to a gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Indiana visitor hosting client at Rangers game vs Flyers. 1st experience was a 10, this being 2nd experience awards an 11! Tremendous venue and great fans supporting the Rangers to a 1-0 OT victory. Will return again for more…..
It was a great experience, no words, a must for everybody who loves icehockey..
A great one in a lifetime type experience. Though drinks and food prices are unreasonable inside the arena.
Staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is brilliant, would highly recommend watching a ranger game
I was visiting from Australia and had no idea what I was getting myself into aside from my love of hockey - the stadium was was electric with the buzz of my fellow sports fans, the special DJ show after the first period and it was definitely a bucket list activity for me
Always love a Hockey game at The Garden! Only negative was the two jerks who started screaming at me and my wife about “Hockey Etiquette “, I assume because I was wearing a Sharks jersey. This is still America, “Turf Warriors!”
Love watching live hockey and was pumped we got to see a game at MSG. It’s a great venue and the in game entertainment was excellent. I’m not a Rangers fan and I come back again to watch whoever they play. The fans were great and it’s worth the experience. Bucket list worthy!
What a great night! Such fun, really entertaining. Highly recommend.
It was a fantastic evening with an awesome atmosphere! Let's go Rangers!
Game was great nice young team I think they are worthy of the Cup
The mood to the hockey games in Germany is very different. The Rangers Fans make Noise when they shoot a goal. In Germany the fans make the whole game noise. But it makes a lot of fun to be there.. Maybe come back
Loved everything about it the result !! Entertainment atmosphere - it’s been 30 years since my last visit and my wife and daughters first - A Swedish Australian family who are now Rangers fans !! Look forward to the next visit !
I came to NYC from JAPAN by buisness. I saw actual NHL game for the first time in 40 years since elementary school。 I was overwhelmed by the power and the excitement did not stop。
The Garden was packed, the crowd was amped up. The pre show was amazing I had goosebumps on my arms the hair on my neck was standing. I watched the team I’ve loved since a little boy won the season opener. Can’t get any better than that !!!!
Graat time at MSG for the opening night of the NHL season, grear atmosphere at the game.
From Australia. 1st NHL game. Atmosphere electric. Great viwing from up the back. Sat next to great people. Rangers won.what more could i ask for
Love Hockey always enjoy myself. Haven’t been to a game in YEARS, seating is uncomfortable. If you’re over 200 pounds it’s rough. How does a person over 6ft tall sit in those seats. The prices are ridiculous an to charge for a Ranger plastic cup for $1 after you pay $16 a beer. $7 pretzel 🥨 too much. All that said had a great time.
I took my son Devon and daughter Delaney to see their 1st Rangers game and they loved it. The energy and magic you feel at MSG you can't and won't find anywhere else. And of course my Rangers are amazing and every game is exciting. Rangers fan for life at the best most famous arena Madison Square Garden in the best city New York City.
Went with friends had the best time. Will definitely be going back very soon.
