New York Rangers History
The Rangers, one of the Original Six NHL teams, were founded in 1926 by Tex Rickard. According to legend, the New York media nicknamed the team “Tex's Rangers,” a play on the famed law enforcers Texas Rangers.
The team has won four Stanley Cup Championships, the first of which came in only their second season (1928) and the most recent in 1994, beating Vancouver in Game 7 to break a 54-year drought and send Cup-starved fans into a frenzy. The Rangers have also taken home four Presidents’ Trophies and won eight divisional championships—most recently winning both for the 2023-2024 season.
The Rangers' 2017-2018 campaign broke a string of seven consecutive seasons in which the team reached the Playoffs—including the 2013-2014 campaign, which ended in a five-game series loss to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Final.
Among the Hall of Famers to don the Rangers sweater are Andy Bathgate, Eric Lindros, Phil Esposito, and Wayne Gretzky. Twelve players have had their number retired by the team: Bathgate, Ed Giacomin, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves, Harry Howell, Brian Leetch, Mark Messier, Jean Ratelle, Mike Richter, Vic Hadfield, Henrik Lundqvist and Wayne Gretzky. Herb Brooks (1937-2003), who coached the Rangers from 1981-1985, also coached the U.S. Olympic hockey team to its "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union and on to a gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Had the best time EVER!!!! Everything was perfect. GO RANGERS!!!
Good food, great entertainment, adequate security. But the floor was very sticky and not clean.
My aisle seat was blocked by plexiglass. I wish i knew this when i bought my ticket.
Old venue Super tight and small seats Confectionery way over priced
Great night , great game there NO place like Madison Square Garden if you get the chance you have to go !
What better place then "The World's Most Famous Arena" to watch a hockey game. Tough start, great OT win!
I loved every minute of it! Great experience! Can’t wait to get back with the family
Club seats were great Waitress very helpful only thing not crazy about was the choice of music
I enjoyed the atmosphere and seats were comfortable. Restrooms were nice and clean, attendant was very diligent
All Very good beside of the NYR results in the two first game a went to (Ottawa and Chicago. I’m sorry that the bar (name?) was closed
Amazing time at an amazing venue. As a first time visit to this venue, this was so use friendly and easy to understand. We had the best time and cannot wait to go again.
Madison Square Garden feels and looks like a building made in a bygone era. Moving in and out of the building took ages, not enough bathrooms, poor food options. It is a pity that the most expensive sporting ticket I ever bought provided one of the worst experiences.
Sat in the 225 row 4. First time since the restructure of the garden. Not impressed at all. Squashed seating legroom, longest lines ever for men’s and ladies room before during and especially after the game. Took over 15 minutes to leave to get down to Penn Station. A fire trap if there was one. Not coming back again.
What a great hockey game… Rangers vs Oilers!! My experience was great, good location, great seats, awesome customer service… NYC was great! Did I mention Oilers won 🏆
Everything worked well, easy to access the seats and really nice environment. The only problem of my section/seeting (101) is that the nets do not allow the t-shirts to be fired at us meening that we do not hold a chance. :) App worked well but one needs to remember to activate the NFC beforehand (restarting the app before going in helps). Also, when buying the tickets abroad, one cannot use the app and needs to log in with the mobile device using the browser in order to retreive the tickets (did not know that before and a bit of panic to get those tickets on my mobile).
The atmosphere where we sat was electric, and i loved how you can walk into the main area after security check and shop around but to get to your seat you need to scan your ticket which was an easy process. The seats were great even if i was up in the nose bleeds. The energy was loud unlike our home games and it was great to watch Boston beat NYR as both these teams beat my home team in 94 and 2011. MSG has so much history and you can see it around the building and in your opening ceremony.
Since 30 years that was a dream of me... It was even better than all my expectations!
Always a great experience even if they did not win.
Ranger games have great energy. Love going to watch
