New York Rangers History
The Rangers, one of the Original Six NHL teams, were founded in 1926 by Tex Rickard. According to legend, the New York media nicknamed the team “Tex's Rangers,” a play on the famed law enforcers Texas Rangers.
The team has won four Stanley Cup Championships, the first of which came in only their second season (1928) and the most recent in 1994, beating Vancouver in Game 7 to break a 54-year drought and send Cup-starved fans into a frenzy. The Rangers have also taken home four Presidents’ Trophies and won eight divisional championships—most recently winning both for the 2023-2024 season.
The Rangers' 2017-2018 campaign broke a string of seven consecutive seasons in which the team reached the Playoffs—including the 2013-2014 campaign, which ended in a five-game series loss to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Final.
Among the Hall of Famers to don the Rangers sweater are Andy Bathgate, Eric Lindros, Phil Esposito, and Wayne Gretzky. Twelve players have had their number retired by the team: Bathgate, Ed Giacomin, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves, Harry Howell, Brian Leetch, Mark Messier, Jean Ratelle, Mike Richter, Vic Hadfield, Henrik Lundqvist and Wayne Gretzky. Herb Brooks (1937-2003), who coached the Rangers from 1981-1985, also coached the U.S. Olympic hockey team to its "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union and on to a gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Worth every penny I definitely will be coming back
Hard to imagine why a redesigned MSG would have seats with obstructed view. Let's start with the beer. Only 2 choices (Stella & Bud Light) and about 17 bucks a pop. Did like the sippy cup lids to prevent spills. TCB arena has a better beer selection. Very narrow walkway behind the back row, and folks had to line up for both the bathrooms and concessions. Speaking of bathrooms, the men's room had one toilet, 1 urinal and ran out of paper towels. TCB arena has very clean and spacious bathrooms and maintained paper towels until the end of the game. From the end of the arena where i sat, the Rangers Stanley Cup banners could not be seen at all. I heard from others at the game their displeasure with the new design. I got the tickets as a Christmas present gift from my brother, and I didn't have the heart to expect my friend to pay for this seat. Still managed to have a good time, though. All the goals were scored down at our end. Despite not being familiar with the subway system, I made it to my train in Grand Central with 5 minutes to spare, and despite a sold out MSG and being in the subway stations 4 times, i managed not to get covid.
The Rangers team is great.. but very disappointed with Ticketmaster when purchasing the tickets online for a military serviceman and not even having an option for appreciation for their services.
It was a good experience except for the digital scanned entry. There are no signs instructing people how to self-scan. There was one person trying to yell directions over the crowd but we couldn’t hear them. This took longer because most people didn’t know how to scan their tickets. Otherwise, it was a fun event.
The Montreal Canadians and the New York Rangers have the best fans and the best venues to watch a hockey game. Being a HABS fan, I was impressed with the reception we received from the Ranger fans. We were welcomed, yet heckled, and we felt the passion of the Rangers fans. One thing Montreal and New York have in common, is that the atmosphere created in these two arenas provide incentive to the visiting teams to perform better. Who would not get pumped playing in that atmosphere. And although that not may be the best thing for the home team, it sure is the best for the supporting fans.
What a comeback! One of the best regular season games I’ve ever been to. And took a family member who’s never been to a game. Great first experience for him
I chose / paid for Bridge seats, row 1. There would have been exceptional....however, the complete lack of seating enforcement by usher made the experience a disaster. Row 1 became SRO, with people shoving into our seats, yelling right in our ears.... AND, when usher was asked, twice, to address, ultimately did NOTHING!!!!! That is really what pissed me off. We had to eventually exit our because it was so bad....and we moved to the SRO area.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first period my family and I were disappointed because we are diehards and were looking to break the game open in our favor early and fight to a victory. However, the No quit in New York mentality led us to a great come back to finished tied after regulation and win in a phenomenal shootout with Panerin’s sweet touch!
Unique sporting event at one of the most famous venues in the world. Amazing
This was my first nhl game. It was amazing. Thank you
It was the first time at madison square garden and i saw the match from NYRangers vs. Hurricane carolina. It has been a fantastic experience, from the show pre-match and for whole match! I love it!
Firstly, it is not about the loss for the Rangers. That was painfull in itself. I already gave feedback on the repurchase option to you before. Wanted 4 tickets for our fitst ever NHL game but ended up needing to buy spots that turned out impossible due to ‘seller’ issues so we ended up in various general admission seats across the stands. My conclusion: your resale options do not work. But hej. We did all see the game.
Atmosphere was amazing, venue is incredible. Staff super friendly
Everything was as expected, just great! Only minus was that the Rangers lost.
Ticketmaster is doing perfect job and ticket purchasing is easy. It it extremely important to be careful that you don’t use Ticket FASTER !!! Above mentioned is doing poor job and only collecting money to be in the middle of ticket purchasing process.
Wonderful arena, movie and photos of the Rangers history give big emotion everything perfect restaurant, shop etc,,, thanks for all
Easy to purchase tickets, timely responses, great seats, excellent facilities … all round a truly fantastic night!
Took the kids to experience their first American ice hockey match and we all had a fabulous time. Sat the very back row of block 415 with restricted view didn’t spoil the occasion. We even managed to catch a free t-shirt . We were in on the action in amongst the fans and loved the chanting and vibe of the game. Madison Square Garden is just an amazing venue. Worth a visit for the experience of you are in New York.
We went to Manhattan for 6 days and spent a leisurely time visiting the big places. We had some disappointing experiences (top of the rock: over priced, long queues, views were ok but spoilt by the above). But the Rangers game was really amazing. As with any sporting event, the tickets can be pricey. But they are well worth it! From the really efficient security, the really lovely merchandise shop staff, the super quick bar and food staff to the helpful ushers, the organisation was amazing. The game itself was out of this world. The atmosphere and buzz was electric! I went with my wife and 3 daughters, none of whom are real sports fans, but they loved it and wanted to know if there were games in the UK!
Took my 83 year old mom (an old long time Ranger fan) and my son gave us 2 NYR jerseys to wear and we had a blast. Tix were crazy expensive (but it was her Xmas gift) and our tv did not work at all. Kept saying “run channel scan” and I told the usher but no one came to help. That was disappointing.
