New York Liberty History

The New York Liberty are one of three active founding franchises in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Liberty have made six WNBA Finals appearances, in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2023 and 2024, and topped the Eastern Conference seven times. In 2023, the team captured the in-season Commissioner's Cup behind a Finals MVP performance by Jonquel Jones, and later, Breanna Stewart became the first Liberty player to win the WNBA Most Valuable Player award. New York returned to the Commissioner’s Cup Final in 2024, but fell to the Minnesota Lynx. The two teams met again in the 2024 WNBA Finals, where the Liberty claimed their first title. Jones was named the series MVP, and after the season, Stewart was selected to the All-WNBA First Team while Jones and Sabrina Ionescu made the All-WNBA Second Team.

  • AWESOME GAME

by Bowlnbri on 8/27/10Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I got to the Arena just before tip off. The game was outstanding. My NY Liberty played with heart, soul and enery that I have never seen before. Although we were down in the first quarter. I had no doubt that my team would pull this one out. I enjoyed every minute of the game and love the experience of watching such talented women do what they do best. CONGRATULATIONS TO MY NEW YORK LIBERTY!!!!!!!!!! P.S. I don't expect to have to buy another ticket for the 1st Round (LOL)

  • Women's B-Ball is the way to go!!

by Holmes86 on 8/27/10Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first women's basketball game and I was floored. They are intense and serious about their game. There wasn't the usual whining, fighting and fouling that you find with the men's b-ball. As usual, women have more class.....!!

  • Best Liberty Game Ever

by shortfemme1269 on 8/16/10Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The NY Liberty stomped the Phoenix Mercury, 107-69. Cappie and Nicole went off, shooting the lights out. The whole team contributed to the win. It was a great game and I can't wait to see the Liberty in action again.

It was very pleasant to see these girls do as well as they have been doing lately. It was lots of fun and great entertainment for my family's brother, who never visited MSG let alone watch a live game. Let's go all the way girls and take that title! MR

I bought these tickets for my husband & daughter. They spent the day in the city. Went to the game at night. Loved it. I try to get tickets every year to this game when the Liberty play the Mercury. It is a good bonding experience & worth every penny. I try to get the best seats I can afford. This is the 3rd year they have been going.

  • Cappie Pondexter - MVP

by lurker321 on 8/15/10Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Great game. The Lib stomped Cappie's old team mates (including Diana Taurasi) 107-69. Gotta love those Rutgers girls, Cappie, Essence and Kia...all are making contributions...really fun game to watch!

  • italian enjoys better

by mfromItaly on 8/8/10Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

It was my first wnba game live and I enjoyed the garden, the atmosphere and the liberties very much! It was a real good start! They wore the pink jersey to support breast cancer researches and women...a great support to be backed by all women and men! We missed the first ball and the mystics, especially when #30 Smith was son the ground, were very tough! We were down, but I didn't come from Italy to see LIBERTY lose, no doubt! Cappie Pondexter, point by point led the "pink" closer and closer, MacCornell #4 was devastating in the blue area..and Essence Carson (that I admired in Italy) was so good! We were a team, the team on the ground! the match, the feeling was wonderful, a great experience that I enjoyed very much! Something I wanna do again, any time possible I will be in US. Italians enjoys better! :-) good life to you all
