New York Knicks History
The Knicks were established in 1946 and were one of the founding members of the Basketball Association of America, which became the NBA after merging with the National Basketball League in 1949. The Knicks and Boston Celtics are the only two original NBA teams still located in their original cities.
The Knicks saw early success, advancing to the NBA Finals in three consecutive years from 1950 to 1953. They lost all three series, twice to the Minneapolis Lakers and once to the Rochester Royals. The franchise’s next successful era began in the late '60s, under the tutelage of head coach Red Holzman. They won 54 games in Holzman's first full season as head coach in the 1968–69 season, then improved to 60 wins the following year. The Knicks won their first NBA Championship in 1970, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games. Holzman won Coach of the Year, while center Willis Reed won NBA MVP and Finals MVP.
Holzman and Reed led the Knicks back to the finals in two of the next three seasons, facing the Lakers both times. They split those two series, winning their second championship in the 1972–73 season.
The Knicks did not experience success again until the '90s, when future Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing led them back to the NBA Finals in 1993–94 and 1998–99. They lost both series, first in seven games to the Houston Rockets, then in five games to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Knicks traded for star Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets in 2011. He proved to be an elite scorer, but team success eluded the Knicks. They made it to the playoffs three times in Anthony's seven-year tenure with the team, winning one series in 2013.
The Knicks reached the playoffs once again during the 2020–21 season, reinvigorated by power forward Julius Randle, who was awarded the NBA’s Most Improved Player distinction in 2021, and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2023 with the additional firepower of newly-acquired point guard Jalen Brunson. The Knicks most recently reached the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2025 NBA playoffs, marking their first appearance in the conference finals since the 1999-2000 season.

An experience for our first : -NBA game -time at Madison Square Garden Nothing to complain about, from booking to organization
Loved every second, it felt like a production, it felt like a true American atmosphere! I enjoyed the quarter time and half time games. The basketball players obvs 11/10 🙄
I just wish the T-Shirt cannon would actually work. I have been to 3 Knicks games and they seem to not be shooting t shirts out of the cannon.
Had a great time at Madison Square Garden watching the Knicks play against the 76ers admittedly the Sixers fielded a G league team basically as all their top stars were sitting out it’s made for a easy win for our Knicks. It’s really great to see OG step up, and the whole team has been playing well without our captain Brunson out with injury right now. I’m always a big fan of the garden. The seats were comfortable floor seats. I had in the folding chair section by the visitors side in the risers were comfortable and roomy enough for a tall, big guy like me close enough to the action and it didn’t feel like a chore getting in and out of the arena back to the main level, the staff was courteous, quick efficient and knowledgeable about where we need to be and what we need to be doing and the overall environment of MSG Always makes me feel safe and comfortable really a big fan. I’m going to the arena and always enjoy my time there. orange and blue skies. go Knicks!!!
Attended Nicks game as first time in NYC. The razzmatazz was great to start with, but got in the way of the game. Music drowned out crowd noises. Very good view but limited legroom (and I am not tall). MSG is an OK venue in a pretty grim area. Skilled players but the flow of the game is ruined by time outs.
We were 10 people going to see the Knicks. Even though they lost we had a blast. We just wish that people up in the bar stools are in the 300s also get some attention to be shown as fervent fans!! Also that area never gets any shirts, etc. Other than that, we had a blast, there barstool area is the best in our opinion. Go New York !!! Go Knicks!!!
Entire show was a great experience, can’t wait too visit again.
Super event. Great game of basketball in an iconic venue
10 ok excelent, inlove NBA Good organization Madison square garden is incredible
the experience was great! booking from germany was easy...ticket was on my phone in time...and the game in MSG was spectacular...employees were very nice...thank you!
Greatest arena on earth!!!! It’s nothing like it knicks fans are best….. #knickstape
It was fantastic! It was my son’s first NBA game and he loved it!
This was my first NBA experience, so please do not judge me heavily. The entrance was so easy compared to the exit. There was no line, and it was easy to access our seats. There were lots of options for food and drink. But I couldn't understand the "if you spend more than 30, get a cup and a 5-dollar discount."The cashier did not help me with it. All entertainments were so good that most of the time, they got ahead of the match. There was not enough exit space to street. We've been waiting over 30 minutes to get off.
Amazing Arena, amazing atmosphere and above all an amazing team!
Exciting game, great extra entertainment including karaoke moment!
Madison Square Garden is a historical place for basket-ball and I couldn't were in NYC without seeing a knicks game.
Best experience for an Irish person ever!! We got to see knicks vs chicago bulls in madison square gardens
Watching the game was great. But the half-time show with the kids playing basketball against each other was nice.
First time in NYC, first NBA play for me and my 15 teen. A wonderful experience. A must do when visiting NYC. Thank you for this amazing time.
