New York Jets History

Beginning play at the Polo Ground in 1960 as The Titans of New York, the franchise changed their name to the Jets in 1963 before adopting Shea Stadium as their home in 1964. In 1968, the Jets became the first AFL representative to defeat the NFL in the Super Bowl as the team beat the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, an improbable victory that was made possible in part by their quarterback, "Broadway" Joe Namath.

The Jets made a return to the playoffs in the ’80s, and in 1982 made an appearance in the AFC Championship game. Between 2001 and 2010, the Jets made the playoffs six times.

New York Jets at MetLife Stadium

The Jets play their home games at MetLife Stadium, an open-air, multi-purpose stadium located at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey. MetLife is also home to the New York Giants, which makes it one of only two stadiums to be shared by two NFL teams.

MetLife Stadium opened in 2010 and upon its construction, which cost $1.6 billion, was the most expensive stadiums to be built in the U.S. MetLife Stadium has a capacity of 82,500 and has hosted such events as Super Bowl XLVII, Copa America Centenario Final, and the 2021 Army-Navy Game. MetLife will also be one of the sites for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Jets’ biggest rivals are the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills.

The New York Jets have reached the Super Bowl championship once, beating the Colts 16-7 in Super Bowl III in 1969 — the first championship game for which the NFL officially coined the "Super Bowl" name.

The New York Jets were originally named the Titans of New York, but the franchise was sold in 1963 and renamed the Jets. They were renamed the Jets since the team would play near LaGuardia Airport, and because Jets rhymed with the New York Mets, with whom they’d share Shea Stadium.

    Jets with a car

by Mbee on 9/28/09Giants Stadium - East Rutherford

If you have a car but no pre-paid permit the Stadium makes getting from the satellite parking lots really easy. It was a very well organized system. I was impressed. Go see the Jets! Sanchez is still young but has flashes of brilliance. Well worth it.

    Not a family environment!!!!

by MEMALDON on 9/28/09Giants Stadium - East Rutherford

The first thing people need to know about the home games for the Jets and Giants is that there is NO Parking available in site for people that don't have permits... So we spend 40 minutes looking for the off site parking... then having to take a shuttle under the rain... (not a fun experience)... When at the game the crowd was not very nice... by half time must ot the "gentleman" in our section were drunk.... and then a lady "flashed" her chest to the entire audience.. I went to the game with my husband and 12 year old daughter... so this wasn't a pretty scenario. Is a shame that this kind of people attend sports event. The game though was pretty exciting, but definitely nothing I wouldn't enjoy live again!!

    Jets vs Pats

by jetsticketmasterfan on 9/22/09Giants Stadium - East Rutherford

the stadium gave brady such a hard time that it caused him three delay of games. It was the Jets first win against New England at home since 2001 and I was there to witness it. Incredible, amazing, I told people not to use stub-hub that ticketmaster was the way to go. Thank you, I spent a year in Afghanistan and to come back and be apart of this was awesome. v/r Jet fan

    Bring your earplugs!

by BBQ28 on 9/22/09Giants Stadium - East Rutherford

This was one of the loudest, most raucous, yet amiable football crowds I have ever been a part of. At last count, I had been to over 150 NFL games. This was one of the best!

    Playoff Atmosphere!

by Jetsfanforever on 9/22/09Giants Stadium - East Rutherford

It was the first game of the season & it was amazing. The 12th man on defense played a big role. That would be the fans. Unbelievebly loud. Deafening was more like it. Brady was running in circles,he"s still running..........lol!

    Amazing game

by RustyShunt on 9/21/09Giants Stadium - East Rutherford

Every other football game I've ever seen pales in comparison to seeing the Jets beat Brady live! Most Super Bowls were less compelling or entertaining A very special event!

    Intense Insanity

by FiveFooter on 9/21/09Giants Stadium - East Rutherford

This was my first NFL game. The noise level alone was so intense that I could feel it in my eardrums. In a word: pandemonium! The crowd was so loud that there was no room to object....there was no other alternative but to join in the insanity. I loved every moment!!!

The fans we the 12th man on the field in this game, it made for an experience that you could not get by watching on television. This was the best NFL game I have been to so far, it lived up to all the Jets vs. Patriots hype.

Awesome game, but getting there is NOT half the fun

by dclang on 9/21/09Giants Stadium - East Rutherford

Loudest regular season crowd ever. Jet D RULED! Parking was two bus rides away and NO GRILLING ALLOWED ruined Tail Gate. Victory made up for most of the inconvenience.
