New York Islanders History

The New York Islanders, also known as the Isles, celebrated 50 years as a franchise during the 2022-2023 season. The New York Islanders took the ice for the first time in 1972 and forged one of sports' greatest dynasties less than a decade after the franchise's inception. The New York Islanders are one of only two NHL teams to win four straight Stanley Cup Championships, and their legendary run of 19 straight playoff series victories remains unmatched in professional sports.

GM Bill Torrey's brilliant drafting during the 1970s stocked the Islanders roster with some of the game's greatest players. Defenseman Denis Potvin, right wing Mike Bossy, center Bryan Trottier, goaltender Billy Smith, and left wing Clark Gillies powered the dynasty and went on to the Hall of Fame. Coach Al Arbour joined Torrey and his five players in the Hall of Fame after finishing his career fourth all-time in wins. New York Islanders legends Butch Goring, Bob Nystrom, and John Tonelli are also forever enshrined on the rafters at UBS Arena.

  • Great seats, bad time getting food

by Marnie on 11/10/25UBS Arena - Belmont ParkRating: 4 out of 5

Great seats- saw everything. But a bad time getting food especially ice cream- how is there only one ice cream stand on the first level? there was a line around the corner and then another longer line to pay. Took the whole intermission and missed the first few minutes of the 3rd period. Makes me not want to get food at the venue.

  • Good location, poor mood

by SwissReto on 11/10/25UBS Arena - Belmont ParkRating: 4 out of 5

Infrastructure is very good and cosy. The people and the celebration was not enthusiastic as in other staduims. Deprnds on the people snd performance from the Hockey Team. I wish e better transportation with the train or buses, because the waiting time after the game was too long (LIRR)

Even in the upper mezzanine seating, the view was awesome. The food was great. The drinks arrived quickly at the bar, didn't miss anything. Fantastic experience.

  • Not worth the traffic

by Joe on 10/2/25UBS Arena - Belmont ParkRating: 3 out of 5

UBS in itself is beautiful and fun to be at. However getting there and home not so much. Been a die hard islanders fan my entire life. I don’t care who says it is but ubs arena is not Long Island. And I will never be going again. The commute was horrendous as you would expect. Please move back to coliseum

  • My experience

by Ice hockey fan on 4/8/25UBS Arena - Belmont ParkRating: 3 out of 5

UBS Arena offered an excellent show for me. The big minus was that security personnel gave people wandering around during ice hockey games, which was irritating. The game's focus loses when people move in the same row and return many times during the show.

  • Challenges with Entry and Payment at UBS Arena's Emerald Lot

by bill on 3/4/25UBS Arena - Belmont ParkRating: 1 out of 5

I recently visited UBS Arena and experienced some significant issues with the parking situation at the Emerald lot. 1. Entrance from Cross Island Parkway: The entrance to the Emerald parking lot is not adequate. The exit ramps, originally built in the 1940s, create many bottlenecks. This added over 30 minutes to our travel time. 2. Pre-Paid and Credit Card Readers: The pre-paid and credit card readers in the Emerald parking lot are overly sensitive and not user-friendly. As a result, around 80% of the cars entering the lot required assistance from the parking attendants, who had to take our phones and align them with the QR code reader manually. This process caused another 30-minute delay. As a modern arena, UBS Arena needs to improve its parking infrastructure to match the high standards expected by visitors. I hope these issues can be addressed promptly to enhance the overall experience.

  • Great game, great arena, bad transportation.

by Phil on 2/7/25UBS Arena - Belmont ParkRating: 4 out of 5

UBS is a great place to watch a game. The problem remains transportation. I had to wait over 20 minutes on the platform in the bitter cold. There should be more trains added on event nights. I also wish the games should start at 7 instead of 7:30, so I have a better chance of catching an earlier train.

  • Perfect experience
