New York City Football Club History
New York City FC first began play in 2015 as the 20th MLS franchise. NYCFC has a strong connection with the New York Red Bulls, with their rivalry known as the Hudson River Derby.
After finding their footing during their inaugural season, New York City FC reeled off three playoff appearances in a row, making the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The New York City FC roster was quickly built around international stars such as David Villa and Frank Lampard, with the former leading the team in scoring in each of his four seasons and winning the 2016 Landon Donovan MLS MVP Award.
In 2021, NYCFC claimed their first MLS Cup championship behind 2021 Golden Boots winner Valentín “Taty” Castellanos and the MVP goalkeeper Sean Johnson. One season later, New York won the annual Campeones Cup match. In 2025, New York FC advanced to the postseason conference final before falling to Inter Miami CF, 5-1.

Amazing match - worth every penny! Will be back for sure!
Everything was great. Good seats. All the ushers were fantastic as well as the NYCFC fans. We are Seattle fa s and they still made us feel welcome.
The game was one of the best experiences, so glad I came.
Great match as always, NYCFC treating their fans to a fantastic 3-0 win.
My son loves soccer, and this was his first MLS game, and his first time going to Yankee Stadium. It was actually firsts for his grandmother, and myself as well. His grandmother was somewhat ambivalent about going. WELLLL....it was the most amazing experience for all of us!!! We were so worried about the prediction for strong storms. As we drove from White Plains to the Bronx, I noticed it had already rained and the sun was out. The night was perfect for an outdoor game. I was worried about parking, but there were so many options, and it was close to the stadium. We were in awe when we saw the stadium. It’s beautiful!! Seeing all if the legends that have played for the Yankees, was awesome. The process was easy with regards to taking tickets, and of course once inside, my son wanted a jersey. There was plenty of help to find our seats, and they were great, although next time I want to try the fan zone. They were rocking over there!!!! The game was exciting, and we were so excited because NYCFC won😊😊 This will not be our last time at an NYCFC game!!!
The seats were great and we were able to view the whole field with no problem the seats were great with easy access to multiple food courts and the price we paid was amazing! Can’t wait to go to the next game!
The game was great and the seats were great as well. My only complaint was that there was one venue to get food so there was constantly a 15 minute wait if you wanted something.
It was a great experience for my family and myself. It was my son's first game at the stadium and he loved it and would like to go back again for some more games! GO NYCFC!
I’ve never been one to write reviews, but after this game I feel compelled to. This club has some major issues going forward and on Saturday that was made very apparent. There were so many empty seats at this game which resulted in a weak atmosphere overall. But it was no wonder why, after seeing the teams performance and the smaller than regulation pitch completely falling apart in the infield. I can’t imagine how frustrating that must be for the players. Game ended in a draw even though it shouldn’t have. Have no doubt that the team is filled with talented players but they looked lost out there and just couldn’t score. After going to this game I might officially hop on the #DomeOut movement.
Beautiful day for our first soccer game in a baseball stadium. Why was garage parking twice as much as when the Yankees play?
Enjoy the day with my brother, we had fun. The only thing we didnt like was securitas told us to leave asap. We couldnt even take a pic after the game. Other then that it was a grate day.
It was a good game. Most of the time I look forward for the game. What the owners need to do to improve the experience is to get a stadium it's annoying that new teams are getting stadiums and we are playing in the same baseball stadium for too long...
This is my second time attending an NYCFC match and it was fun. We had decent, reasonably priced seats. Could see the whole match (unobstructed) and enjoyed the energy. What I don't enjoy is when someone from the NYCFC calls me (unsolicited) a couple days before the match to ask me how I'm doing (?) and if I have any questions. They did this when we went to a different match AND another time just out of the blue. STOP CALLING ME. I don't appreciate it. If I have questions...I'll reach out. If you don't hear from me...please leave me alone.
Reasonably decent game of football. Standard could have been better though. Good crowd atmosphere & a top venue. Yankee Stadium is always worth a visit when in NYC for MLS or MLB NY Yankees.
Rooney and company tried their best to force NYCFC into two straight home losses, but with five minutes left Villa saved the day with a top shelf free kick to claim a draw.
Its a shame the game wasn't as spectacular as the Yankees stadium, but if you fancy something to go and watch whilst in New York, add a NYCFC game to your list, I would recommend it. 'Soccer' with a dash of the good old American razzmatazz ..!!!
Great venue, good atmosphere. The result was disappointing but I will definitely be there for the rest of the home games.
A good game of football but full of missed chances by NYC. A game they should have won easily. Not sure that a baseball stadium is still the right venue for football though given the Diamond has to be patched over. Maybe NYC will be more clinical against DC United.
Nice atmosphere for a rivalry. Attendance was high.
Great atmosphere for derby - our first night in NYC
