New Jersey Devils History

The New Jersey Devils were born in 1982, the third incarnation of a franchise that began as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) before spending six years in Denver as the Colorado Rockies. The arrival of president/general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 started the franchise's rise to the NHL elite. The Devils made the playoffs in 21 of the next 24 seasons, including five trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils made it as far as the conference finals in the 1987-1988 and 1993-1994 seasons, preparing them for their historic run the following year in which they won their first Stanley Cup Championship, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

The Devils returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000, dispatching the Dallas Stars in six games on an iconic double-overtime Cup-clinching goal by Jason Arnott. The next season, as the best offensive team in the NHL, they returned to the Final.

The Devils' stretch of dominance was far from over, though. They won their third Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, spoiling the Anaheim Ducks’ first-ever playoff run with a Game 7 shutout orchestrated by Martin Brodeur. To date, the club has won three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships.

In 2022, the Devils returned to the second round of the playoffs — their first time since 2011. Led by young stars Jack Hughes and Nico Hischer, the Devils defeated their long-time rivals the New York Rangers in the first round, before losing their next series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

    Nice game - wrong result (NJD 2 : NYR 3) :-(

    by Sheena01 on 10/7/09Prudential Center - Newark

I bought the ticket online, this was pretty easy but unfortunately I had to pick them up at the Prudential Center. You can't get a print-yourself-ticket with a creditcard from germany. So, you must purchase them and pick them at the box office. But the box office was easy to find (direct in the prudential) and open - so no real issue. Just a bit more complicated. The seats itself were pretty good (behind the gool) - the view was excellent. The only negativ aspect was the result - devils lost :-( Next time I will choose a game in the secon part of season - the center wasn't sold out so there is room for improvemnet concerning the atmosphere. But all in all a really nice event.

First time to a rivalry game.

    by Metalshadow626 on 10/6/09Prudential Center - Newark

It was pretty amazing, of course the Devils lost (and it felt like a road game too with all those Ranger fans) but nevertheless Hockey games are possibly the best sporting events to go to.

We had great tickets...great seats and the parking was also great but the game was bad. The Devils seemed unprepared for the game and the Flyers jus took over the arena.....we left early. It was bad!! Hope they are better Mon. night against the Rangers ( suck)

    poor service

by Anonymous on 10/5/09Prudential Center - Newark

    1) my son son was told after waiting to purchase food that they could not change a $20 so he went away without food after waiting then i went waited on line again when i ordered i was told i could not get water because all the registers the button for water was not working when i suggested that other items be but in to come up with the total i was told not to tell him how to do his job you also need to speak to the private lots for the price the charge to park per event. so now i was told i would have to go get on line again for the water ?? graet service the peolple working register need to be able to add on another line the person had to use a calulator to find out if some was old enough to by beer maybe you want to give them the year to look for and make things move more quickly to much time spent on line for food because people can't add??

Always love to watch my Devils!

by Kellykim on 10/5/09Prudential Center - Newark

The Prudential Center is a great place and I am very happy that we no longer watch Devils' hockey at Continental Arena. My seats were great, we were in the lower seating level and right behind the goalie, 21 rows up. Even though we lost, had a great tme!

    by Flyers44 on 10/5/09Prudential Center - Newark

What a fun! Emotions running hot in the audience and on ice. These meetings are classics. Prudential center was excellent: easy to find and everything well organised. I'll be back!

    Major Disappointment

by Jdevil on 10/4/09Prudential Center - Newark

I always enjoy going to the games to support my Devils but when they out on a performance like they did last night I am sorry I wasted my money. Opening night against an arch rival and such a poor showing makes me reconsider spending the money I do on these games.

    Devils Rule

by dochicokitty on 10/4/09Prudential Center - Newark

Devils game was great, as always eventhough Flyers won. Just lucky is all. Food lines way too long. Spent entire intermission waiting on line for slice of pizza that was cut extremely smaller than rest of the slices. I got ripped off. Employees always very nice and helpful.

    D-E-V-I-L-S whats that spell...

    by fr4ntic on 10/4/09Prudential Center - Newark

Yeah, actually the Devils really rule. but that day the Flyers were the better team and won 5-2. Nevertheless it was unforgettable a and really amazing. Ticket Pick-Up went find without any problems, seats were great, atmosphere was OK, but I actually was not impressed as I´m from Europe and often go to Soccer Matches of Rapid Vienna, I guess no NHL Team can top the atmosphere there. However, I can recommend to visit a devils game.

    no show

    by dt17 on 10/4/09Prudential Center - Newark

For a opening night and home game, the devils did not show up. After the 1st 5-3 advantage, the devils did not play as a team for the rest of the game. The 5-2 score was a true test on the overall preformance of the team. I know this is the 1st game of the season , but if the team wants to preval this season they need to WAKE UP AND PLAY AS A WHOLE.

    Devils

    by Nailbomb85 on 10/4/09Prudential Center - Newark

Despite the Devils losing the game and playing like crap for 2 periods, I still love them and I hope to see them pull through and have yet another great season.

by Droska on 10/4/09Prudential Center - Newark

    The Devils Sucked

by IdolDad on 10/4/09Prudential Center - Newark

This was the worst waste of time we could have selected. The arena was nice, and the food was good, hence the one star, but the team was HORRIBLE.
