New Jersey Devils History

The New Jersey Devils were born in 1982, the third incarnation of a franchise that began as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) before spending six years in Denver as the Colorado Rockies. The arrival of president/general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 started the franchise's rise to the NHL elite. The Devils made the playoffs in 21 of the next 24 seasons, including five trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils made it as far as the conference finals in the 1987-1988 and 1993-1994 seasons, preparing them for their historic run the following year in which they won their first Stanley Cup Championship, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

The Devils returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000, dispatching the Dallas Stars in six games on an iconic double-overtime Cup-clinching goal by Jason Arnott. The next season, as the best offensive team in the NHL, they returned to the Final.

The Devils' stretch of dominance was far from over, though. They won their third Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, spoiling the Anaheim Ducks’ first-ever playoff run with a Game 7 shutout orchestrated by Martin Brodeur. To date, the club has won three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships.

In 2022, the Devils returned to the second round of the playoffs—their first time since 2011. Led by young stars Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, the Devils defeated their long-time rivals the New York Rangers in the first round, before losing their next series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • Disappointing

by postalnut on 1/11/17Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

I have been a Devils fan since they came here from Colorado. They started this season promising. I don't know what happened but they seem to have flat lined. They have no defense and what in Gods name happened to the Offense? Just about the whole game against Oilers they were on their heels. I know I won't be wasting a ton of money again this season going to another game. Very Disappointed

  • Nice venue...so much better than Barclay

Plenty of space to move about. Concessions lines were quick. Nice venue to see a sporting event.

by ccdevil on 1/5/17Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

When my son and I arrived, we were chosen as the Devils Special Fan! We were seated in lounge chairs that were roped off and they showed us on the Jumbotron! So much fun!!!

  • Great Shutout

The Devils are back on track with a great win to start the new year.

  • Devils/Bruins

    by Cups3 on 1/5/17Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Devils/Bruins was awesome.Great seats, very polite and upbeat Pru staff, but as usual, vendor prices for kid's food way too high.

  • Great start to the new year!

by Spyrekeeper on 1/5/17Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Second year in a row I attended game on Jan 2 and we are 2-0. Brought my 9 year old son who LOVES hockey. Last year Devs beat Dallas in OT and this year they played one of their most complete games. Fan experience was awesome as usual. To cap it off, as we were leaving we ran into the NJ Devil, who let my son sneak a quick pic with.

  • Devils games at the Rock

by MoAllison on 1/3/17Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

We always love when we can get to a game at the Prudential center. I'm not a fan of buying tickets from ticketmaster but we had a coupon. We had great seats, especially for last minute. It was hard to see some spots of the ice from where we were sitting, it was a compromise to be close to the players.

  • Fun Girls Night!

by JessicaSmi on 1/1/17Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Great seats, always a good time at a Devils game. Can't wait to go again.

  • Great venue, poor team

    by Roger73 on 12/30/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

Apart from the Devils playing their worst game I've ever seen losing 5-2 from the Pens, the rock venue is great. My only complaint is lack of personnel attending the food/beverage stands. This was not a sold out game and it still took over 20min to get a beer! Poor staffing!!!

  • Penguins played great!

by Kilmenator on 12/30/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great. The Prudential Center is excellent. Complaint was with the New Jersey Devils not allowing Penguins fans complete access to seats behind the goal during warm ups. Traditionally, all fans can watch warm ups from any section. The Devils made all Penguins fans squeeze into a corner section claiming that their season ticket holders complain. There appeared to be no season ticket holders , or any Devils fans, even at the game that early.

  • Pucks and Fists Fly!

by DukeSupreme on 12/26/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

It doesn't get much better then this! A warm winter night at The Rock. The ice cool beer and a warm rivalry with the Philadelphia fans. Even from high up with our backs against the wall the action is clear and the puck is visible. This game had it all for a Devils fan. Not one, not two, but three full line brawls in the first period. Two power play goals and two the old fasion way by the Devils. Not to mention the first shut out for Corey this season. I don't know where the season is going to take us but for that night we felt fantastic.

  • Obstructed view

by TWTWTWzz on 12/26/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 1 out of 5

The seats we had were in the fifth row but we could not see about 25 percent of the ice due to the glass above the boards. These should be sold as obstructed view seats.

  • Old school night

by Anonymous on 12/25/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Went to a fight and a hockey game broke out. SCREW CAPERNICK who needs football anyway. Nobody taking a knee at the rock!

  • Pru Center Experience nice, game not so nice!

by Richiebl on 12/12/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

We always have a nice time at the Prudential Center. The staff at the concessions and the seating areas are always friendly and helpful. This game was no exception. But the Devils played so poorly much of the game, that it was hard to watch. We left early, because it became evident the Devils were not going to win this game.

  • Devils n Blues

by Gettsman on 12/12/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Was a great fan experience despite the young, obnoxious, drunk guy behind us with every other word being an F bomb.

  • I WANT MY MONEY BACK
