My Dad Wrote a Porno on Tour

The internet's sauciest podcast is also a live blue revue. On the self-explanatory My Dad Wrote a Porno, British humorists Jamie Morton, James Cooper and Alice Levine provide real-time commentary on an actual series of erotic-fiction novels penned by Morton's father under a pseudonym, with the trio hilariously dissecting each increasingly ridiculous line of purple prose. Onstage, the trio pull up the love seats and invite you to join them for X-rated storytime, as Morton reads out passages from the Belinda Blinked collection while Cooper and Levine react (often in horror). But don't get too cozy in your seats — the trio have been known to pull audience members onstage to read some of the books' steamiest scenes. Don't worry, you won't have to do anything unseemly.

My Dad Wrote a Porno Background

Parents primarily exist to embarrass their kids — but not if those kids can embarrass them first. Sometime in the early 2010s, British television writer Jamie Morton was gifted a manuscript of his retired father's debut novel — a work of erotica titled Belinda Blinked that he had written under the pen name of Rocky Flintstone. (No, really.) Gobsmacked by his father's surprising hobby, Morton shared the book with his friends James Cooper and Alice Levine (a BBC 1 personality), and they soon realized that their incredulous reactions to its asinine plot and ridiculously overwritten bedroom scenes would make for an amusing podcast. My Dad Wrote a Porno debuted in 2015, with each episode providing a moment-by-moment account of a chapter in the book. And as Papa Flintstone continued to produce more volumes of the Belinda Blinked saga, the podcast returned for additional seasons. Over the past half-decade, My Dad Wrote a Porno has generated more than 250 million downloads, toured a stage production around the world, spawned an HBO special, and welcomed celebrity guests like Elijah Wood and Emma Thompson.

    Lost in translation

by Bradley on 6/29/22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The show definitely needs one to have followed the podcasts toget the most out of the production. Which i did not know. Someone else had bought the tickets but couldn't attend so i went in expexting a play not a 3 way comedy. Would have been a much better show if I had some background.

I loved them so much but the microphone noise in the first half was very distracting!

    Wild good fun

Whether you're a fan of the podcast or not, this is just a great good time. Highly recommended for fun, slightly off-color but good-for-any-adult humor.

    Overall good

by Jo on 6/25/22The Masonic - San Francisco

The show was great, zero complaints. The bag policy of the theater was not clear prior to arrival and I felt blindsided when my bag was too large to enter. So not as happy with Ticketmaster/the Masonic.

So glad I went. I kinda wish I could go again. If you love Belinda, you MUST see this show before they finish.

    Beyond what I imaged

by Mike on 6/24/22Chevalier Theatre - Medford

I don't understand how they continue to be so funny and creative as their show goes on. Their show had the usual podcast feeling but also a crowd involvement game, calls to relatives, and of course drinking. I regret not inviting more friends to see them. I'm hoping they come back soon!

    Worth the wait

by Crazeniak on 6/20/22Warner Theatre - Washington

My friend and I have waited over 3 years for the show! (Damn pandemic) It was 100% worth it and better than I could have hoped. The audience interaction was such an added bonus. And the people and the costumes were amazing! Just awesome! Highly recommend!

This was one of the most fun nights of my life. I had to wait 3 years because of the pandemic, but it was worth the wait. It was so much fun! The venue was gorgeous, the show was hilarious and wonderful, and I even had an amazing bartender that made me a delicious drink for the show. 11/10

    Too rehearsed

by Say Name Here on 6/19/22Chevalier Theatre - Medford

Wasn't a fan. Tried and tried too much on diehard fans for this. Immersion only if were in front 2 rows. The "Chose Your Own Adventure" style was original but was way too rehearsed to be believed. Some chuckles sure but stick to podcasting to continue the illusion of an unscripted comedy cast.

    Worth Every Penny

by AmandaC on 6/19/22Chevalier Theatre - Medford

Such a fun show! Jamie, Alice and James are just as funny in person! It was well done, funny and while I’m sure it’s all rehearsed, it seems very real and authentic. The entire audience was cracking up!

    Funny!

    by J on 6/19/22Chevalier Theatre - Medford

The show was very funny. I will note the majority of it was "fixed"/rehearsed, but I think that's absolutely on par with any other performance. It seemed others may not have anticipated that. The seating was alright; I had trouble seeing past people sitting in front of me as the seats aren't staggered. Show itself started about 45 minutes late, which may have been due to the lateness of getting everyone thru concessions and to their seats. Absolutely loved the show itself though!

    Worth the wait!

by ToffeeAppleChew on 6/19/22Chevalier Theatre - Medford

Belinda’s 30-ish birthday party was worth the wait! Hilarious, with the kind of writing only Rocky can deliver. It was hard to hear sometimes, but I think that was more the venue. Loved every minute!

Just as funny as their HILARIOUS podcast!

    by sawxfan49 on 6/19/22Chevalier Theatre - Medford

The live show was just as funny, irreverent, and full of Belinda’s antics as their podcast. Watching them interact was just as funny as I throughly it would be. They are phenomenal!

    The show was fantastic!

by Matt G on 3/17/20The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Love these guys! The performance was excellent. They were a little hard to hear at times but I think that's more of the venue's fault. They put on a great show.
