My Chemical Romance are a rock band composed of lead vocalist Gerard Way, bassist Mikey Way and guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero. Formed in 2001 in New Jersey, MCR have become highly influential for their blend of rock, pop-punk and emo music along with unflinchingly open lyrics and theatrical live performances. Beginning with 2002’s I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, MCR have released four studio albums, two live recordings and three compilations. The band unveiled their major label debut, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, in 2004 behind their first charting singles, “I'm Not Okay (I Promise),” “Helena” and “The Ghost of You.” In 2006, MCR’s third album The Black Parade reached a career-high No. 2 on the Billboard 200, while lead single “Welcome to the Black Parade” peaked at No. 9 on the Hot 100. After touring 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, MCR did not perform together again until 2019, followed by a reunion world tour between 2022 and 2023. The band headlined Las Vegas’ When We Were Young Festival in 2024. In 2025, My Chemical Romance embarked on a tour in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their landmark third studio album, The Black Parade.

it was a crazy night!!! My Chemical Romance rocked
Small venue, but the show was really entertaining. Lots of jumping around and sweating.
I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I found out My Chemical Romance's show at the Val Air was sold out. Heck, I've only joined the MCRmy back in October after being an on-again, off-again fan. I was taking two friends who sort of knew about MCR, but weren't big fans, and I wasn't sure what the crowd was going to be like. It was so worth it. Both The Architects and Neon Trees fit with the crowd for opening acts. They're definitely both different types of music (Architects being very post-hardcore, while Neon Trees is really alternative more along the lines of pop, but not really), but considering what MCR has done, they work so well. And all three bands really do promote each other very well. The actual concert was amazing. I can't say anything else. I was so out of breath from singing and sore from jumping up and down at the end. My ears are still ringing two days later (but that may be because I was in front of the speakers...). They played music from all four albums (seeing them perform Vampires was awesome, and I can see why it's a big hit with the band and their fans), but obviously played a lot from Danger Days (which I absolutely adore). But hearing some of their bigger singles, like Helena, Welcome to the Black Parade, Teenagers and my favorite I'm Not Okay (I Promise) was equally as awesome. I'm a bit disappointed they didn't perform Sing, as I know Gerard would've done an amazing job on the song. But I'll take it for what it's worth and still say that the setlist they did was great. What I have below isn't complete, as everything ran together, but I think it's pretty comprehensive. Next time I go, I'm making sure I get there earlier so I can get closer to the center of the stage so I can see all of them, and be able to make sure they get the artwork that I created for them. (I handpainted four Killjoy masks based upon their Killjoy characters and left a personal message for each of them, which I threw on stage after the show, so I hope to God they got them!) But I am for sure going to see them again in the future. They are an amazing band live, and the fans are awesome.
MCR rocked! They played songs from all of their CDs, even from their first one. I can't wait to see thier next show!!!
Despite two regrettable opening bands (including the ghastly Architects who just looked like they were trying to play rock star instead of playing some listenable music) My Chemical Romance went above and beyond the call of duty and conventional set lists. They had an impressive 17 song set, but played around 20. Frontman Gerard Way kept the audience involved the entire show, and lead guitarist Ray Toro played the entire show with a broken foot and still kicked ass. Val Air was a nice venue for this show, but I'm sure they'll branch to a much larger stage for their next tour.
MCR put on a fabulous show. I was front and center. Cancer was so unforgettable. Seeing them again tonight!
The band line up was great! The venue was hot temperature wise.
Loved My Chem! They put on a great show and Gerard was awesome!
The Val Air Ballroom was a small venue and the number of people who fit inside may have exceeded the capacity, but My Chemical Romance made everything worth it. The Architects weren't so hot, but the Neon Trees had a lot of fun and great energy to pump up the crowd. My Chemical Romance did the round from every cd and Gerard was just ADORABLE! It wasn't my first time seeing them, and it won't be my last. They don't disappoint.
Absolutely incredible. This was my third time seeing them and I can't wait to see them again.
Not only did they get the whole crowd going, but they commanded the stage as if it was their last night ever playing. Their opening acts were also very good. The whole show was just put together so well! They also told me Happy Birthday on stage so it was pretty much the best concert EVER!
I can't believe MCR didn't play "Sing" at the concert! Who doesn't play their number one hit song at their concert?!?!!? They played a decent set, but I enjoyed watching Neon Trees preform more. I guess MCR just disappointed me since I was really looking forward to hear "Sing". I enjoyed watching some of the intense MCR fans and the diverse group of fans there.
Excellent show. Architects were OK. Neon Trees were good. My Chemical Romance was spot on. I did go in expecting a younger audience and it held true. I just expected more general crowd energy than what was there. The show sold out and Val Air ballroom to my knowledge did a much better job of getting the crowd in the door than my previous experience there. However it was 80 degrees this time rather than below freezing like when I saw Dropkick Murphys there in March when the entrance was a huge fail. They seriously screwed the Dropkick fans so seriously that had I not already purchased My Chemical Romance tickets, I’d have never returned there.
I was very impressed by the venue itself and the bands just rocked it! Neon Trees put on a fantastic show and My Chemical Romance were awesome as well. It was my son's first concert and he was rightfully blown away.
Val Air Ballroom is one of my least favorite places to see an event - less than stellar sound and a constant inability to let shows start on time. However, MCR & their opening acts (Neon Trees and an opening band with a name I never caught) were great. I'd definitely spend the $$ to see them again. If you can catch them at another venue then it's a 5 star show all the way.
Great show, but very upset they didn't play "SING"
Overall this was a GREAT show and I would recommend that everyone attend in their city if it's not yet sold out. I typically go to two or more shows a week, so I hardly ever watch entire shows, however, this event captured my attention and I watched each bands set in full (for the first time in over a year!). The Architects opened the show, and they did a great job. However, I could tell I was in Iowa and not at home in Minnesota during their set because the crowd really didn't get into their music as much as crowds in Minnesota do. Neon Trees also did an excellent job, and really captured the crowd. This most likely has to do with the fact that they have gained a lot of radio play so people actually knew their music. My Chemical Romance did an awesome job, they played over an hour set and the crowd was crazy. However I was surprised that My Chemical Romance didn't include "Sing" in their set list.
Neon Trees were a great opener and My Chemical Romance were awesome in performance and attitude. The Architects' music was good, but vocals were a little difficult to understand.
This show was amazing. I absolutely loved it! They have such a great stage presence and you can definitely tell they love being on stage!! It was great being with a bunch of their fans as well. Once the intro, "Look Alive, Sunshine" started playing, you could feel the room become energized. Also, the old hits were just amazing and fun to listen to. MCR used the stage well and didn't falter once. It was an incredibly long set (1hr and 30min) but not once did I get bored. However, I did think, "Am I going to faint before this is over?!" It was very crowded and I have never been so squished that I was actually lifted off my feet before (and I am rather tall, too.) It was so much fun though! I would definitely go again! They sounded great live (though I might've been too deaf to tell the difference.) The Architects were ok. I don't like their style, but that is just me. I'm not a fan of Neon Trees either, but I enjoyed watching the lead singer act crazy. Nice mohawk, too.
The show was awesome! The whole crowd (myself included) were singing along to every song and Gerard was more than happy to conduct. lol. It was a fun night I loved it. (However the architect had something up with the technical side of their equipment, whenever the lead sing would sing louder than soft it would overload the mic and seriously hurt our ears. That wasn't fun. The rest was awesome though)
