About

My Chemical Romance are a rock band composed of lead vocalist Gerard Way, bassist Mikey Way and guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero. Formed in 2001 in New Jersey, MCR have become highly influential for their blend of rock, pop-punk and emo music along with unflinchingly open lyrics and theatrical live performances. Beginning with 2002’s I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, MCR have released four studio albums, two live recordings and three compilations. The band unveiled their major label debut, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, in 2004 behind their first charting singles, “I'm Not Okay (I Promise),” “Helena” and “The Ghost of You.” In 2006, MCR’s third album The Black Parade reached a career-high No. 2 on the Billboard 200, while lead single “Welcome to the Black Parade” peaked at No. 9 on the Hot 100. After touring 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, MCR did not perform together again until 2019, followed by a reunion world tour between 2022 and 2023. The band headlined Las Vegas’ When We Were Young Festival in 2024. In 2025, My Chemical Romance embarked on a tour in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their landmark third studio album, The Black Parade.

  • Great Show!

by KVBrown on 5/10/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

It took a while for My Chem to set up due to technical difficulties, but the wait was well worth it! I loved the venue, it was small and personal, and I could see the band perfectly even though I was towards the back. Each of the opening bands did a spectacular job, and My Chemical Romance played an hour and a half's worth of songs, so I definitely felt I got my money's worth. Had a wonderful time!

  • My Chem Infreakincredible

Best show of my life by far. First time seeing the band, amazing venue. Very small, very crowded, but well worth the five and a half hours we sat on the ground in the parking lot to get a good spot on the floor. Gerard was in amazing voice and the band ripped the walls down. Highly recommended tour.

The show was great! My Chemical Romance and Thursday were amazing! Also, This Good Robot the opener local band was a pleasant surprise. They were very good and I suggest checking them out!

My Chemical Romance rocked the Starland Ballroom in New Jersey this past weekend> I went to the saturday night show with my daughter who is 18 (I am 42). They put on a great show for the home crowd. They had the crowd dancing and having a fun time,i hope they come back again they are a great live band..I have followed them since they were first played on WSOU FM NJ !!!!! GO SEE THEM!!!!!!

  • MCR WAS AMAZING!!!!

    by nicksgirl216 on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

They put on a great show! I can't wait to see them again. Even their opening acts were great. I only wish we got to meet them afterwards.

  • Insanity!!!

by Anonymous on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

The show was crazy good! Definitely worth going because it was so much fun and they just played songs from all 4 albums. I've been a fan since the first album so it was awesome to hear a song off that one, but newer fans will enjoy it also, because they played a lot of their newer songs.

  • by Anonymous on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 3 out of 5

I was a little disappointed with how long we had to wait for My Chemical Romance to come on. They didn't go on stage until around 10:20 and they were done around 11:40. I really wish they go to go on earlier and play a little longer. I've been to better shows of theirs. It was extremely crowded but thats expected.

  • My Chem was amazing.

by Jordannnn on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

Vocally and instrumentally they were 100%. The band seemed a little tired, but it was in fact their home show and their families were there... so they were probably itching to get home and spend the night in their own beds for once. Other than that they were spectacular. Didn't talk a lot like they normally do, but were interactive as well as entertaining. <3

  • Awesome Show!!!

    by Disdained22 on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing show this was! This was my 7th time seeing My Chemical Romance and they never disappoint! The very first band (I can't remember their name) was a lot of fun. I was very excited to hear that the Architects were just as awesome live as they are on their CD's. Thursday was good, but they aren't quite my flavor. The Starland Ballroom was great, as always. The crowd was not nearly as amped up as I wanted them to be, but the artists themselves put on a hell of a show and I loved every second of it!

  • What? Really?

by Anonymous on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 4 out of 5

I didn't expect anything less from MCR than an unforgettable performance :) These are the only cons that I could think of: 1. 3 opening bands was a little much. It wasn't necessary. 2 is more than fine. 2. Did Starland go over capacity? It certainly felt like it. 3. MCR only played for like an hour and half. WTF mate? and only one encore song? What's the deal? That was probably the most disappointing thing of the night. Only one encore song.

  • MCR show good but very short

by NYtoNJ on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 3 out of 5

I went to the MCR show at the Starland Ballroom on Saturday, May 7th. Opening acts were mediocre, but I wasn't there to see them. MCR went on at 10:25 and ended at 11:35. The show cost about $40. MCR is one of my favorite bands, but 70 minutes is a show? That's the opening set for a lot of bands, or what you might expect from the opening act. And this included the one encore (which is also kind of lame since it was their first show in their home state of jersey for the whole tour). On the positive side, the show - short though it was - very amazing. They definitely played their hearts out and the crowd was absolutely digging it. I brought my 2 daughters and a friend of theirs and they are still talking about it. The only other thing I would mention is that it was too heavy on recent material. You could tell that the crowd was far more excited when they pulled out "Mama" or "Teenagers" or "I'm not okay", etc. If the show was LONGER, this wouldn't have mattered because they could have played plenty of old and new, but since it was so short, the majority of songs were from the new album. Those are my thoughts. Give me at least another 20-30 minutes and it would have been a 5-star show easily.

  • MCR was outstanding!!!

by smooooooooooooooo on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best show ever. I had the best time. the bank was off the hook. I would see them again! the shoe sold out in 5 minutes. I was so lucky to get the tickets!!!!!!

  • The best MCR show I've been to

    by Knives88 on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

It was the best show!!! They played songs from all their albums and rocked out the whole time. Their hometown shows are always unforgettable and amazing. :)

  • MCR - AWESOME; Venue - HORRIBLE

    by Josie182 on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 3 out of 5

The band was great (as usual). They came out, took over the show, the crowd was loving the show and they looked and sounded AMAZING. The venue however was way too small for the amount of people they packed in there. There was no room to breathe let alone walk to the bar to get a drink. Many people ended up watching the show in the multiple televisions inside the venue as well as in the mirror behind the bar. Horrible, horrible venue. Nothing bad to say about the band. I have seen them many times and each time they get better and better. I highly reccomend seeing them at a different venue. This one is just not set up to host bigger shows. Very bad experience.

  • A stress relief

    by hackslash1991 on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

Being a college student means having alot of stress. I had finals before this concert (organic chem and bio) so when I was heading out to see MCR i was pumped and ready to release all of my stress. I've been to an MCR concert so I knew how awesome they were live, but I didn't think that I would enjoy even more a second time. They just keep getting better. The wait for them to get started was a little long (i liked the opening acts), but when they lights turned off and Dr. D started his speech the crowd went wild. Every song they played was clear and beautiful. I sung every part (actually more like screaming because I don't sing very well). There were kids ranging from age 13-30 and a few adults who were singing along. The thing about MCR concerts is that even though a mash pit is going or people are screaming at the top of their lungs, everyone is so friendly. People are always polite and when you are in close corridors you make friends very easily. The venue was pretty good to. You could see the band anywhere you stood (if you were normal height). For me I'm pretty short so it was difficult for me to see but a few people moved so i would be able. I recommend anyone to go to an MCR concert even if you don't particularly enjoy their music. It will get your mind off the stress in your life and show you what it really means to be living.

  • by Anonymous on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

the show was awesome! Great mix of old and new songs. the venue was really crowded but loved seeing the band in a small setting.

  • MCR Was Great

by dontlikedevilfans on 5/9/11Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was great. It was worth the wait with respect to their new CD. But.. They will probably be playing bigger venues

  • Amazing =)

    by PurplePoet on 5/5/11Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

The energy displayed by the band members got everyone involved. The area right in front of the stage was nearly deadly, but Gerard Way made sure to chastise the people who were pushing. Overall, a great band that was definitely worth seeing.

  • great show!!

    by kris421 on 5/4/11Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I loved MyChem but even better than them was Neon Trees!! The singer is a great performer-really engaging and fun to watch! And they sounded amazing.MyChem always sounds blurry live bc I think they usually turn things up too loud for the venue and you can't understand anything. They were good though.

  • by thatgirlfromNJ on 5/3/11Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The band rocked. They were energetic, fun, loud, appreciative, and unbelievable performers. It was miserably hot at the venue and the band had to have felt that, but they kept everyone dancing and singing and they put on an amazing show. I highly recommend that everyone see My Chemical Romance at least once. It's an unforgettable experience and they actually sound just as good live as (or even better than) they sound recorded. Also, the setlist was phenomenal. Excellent show and tremendously talented people! So proud that they represent New Jersey! (Sorry I don't have any pictures of Ray Toro from the show--he was on the other side of the stage; the ones of the band show him, but he's a little blurry).
