The story of the life of Marvin Gay was as an eye opener. I enjoyed the music and superb perforformances of the actors. A great trip down memory lane.

    Extremely Disappointing

by SaveYourTime on 5/26/13Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The producers do not have rights to use Marvin Gaye's music; so this play about Gaye's life did not include any songs by him. Clifton Powell and Lynn Whitfield gave good performances unfotunaty the screen play was not well written. Some of the characters were cartoonist. The dialogue was simplistic. Poor casting for non lead characters who over acted and did not capture the essence of the star they were portraying. Gladys Knight has class but the actress who played Knight displayed no sophistication. The actor who played Teddy Pendergrass was silly, not sexy like Pendergrass.. Tina Turner was portrayed like a clown. Indeed, the entire concert scene with Knight, Pendergrass and Turner was painfully disappointing and told the audience nothing about Gaye's life. We bolted out of the theater when it was over.

    My Brother Marvin

by SamCookeFan1 on 5/26/13Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

I totally enjoyed this absorbing, dramatic and endearing play. Everyone, it seems, who loves Motown, soul and 60's music, loves Marvine Gaye, as do generations beyond. "Whats Going On" is a timeless classic. This play had me from the opening notes of his famous rendition of the Stae Spangled Banner, to the riveting, gripppping ending. It is a must see for Marvin Gaye fans. Zeola Gaye did a master field job penning her memoirs about her brother Marvin.

    "Gaye" Night Out

by Curleigh on 5/25/13Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

I bought the tickets for my mom's Mother's Day gift. She and I both really enjoyed the show. The singing was wonderful. The only thing missing was Marvin's music. It's unfortunate that the person who holds the rights to it would not share it. The message Zeola Gaye had to share about family disfunction and addiction was inspiring. It was fun to see the cast members in the foyer after the show.

    An Unforgettable Spirit

by Godlyone on 5/25/13Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

My Brother Marvin highlights his "third eye" understanding of the force of spirtuality as it engaged him in an endless struggle for his soul.

    Spectacular Performance

by Slimbacon on 5/25/13Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Would have given 5 stars except for the expectation of hearing Marvin Gaye Songs. However the substitute renditions where poised to the beats of the songs they replaced. Very enlighting play with excellent performances. If you are and we're a fan of Marvin Gaye, It's a Must See!

    Missing the Music of Marvin!!!

by lodyone on 5/1/13Symphony Hall - Newark

I was extremely disappointed with the play because I felt it lacked what most people wanted to hear......."Marvin's Music". I enjoyed the performances of the actors and actresses but still felt deceived. I don't think I would have attended this play had I known his music was not going to be heard. I traveled 50 miles for deception!

    The Only Thing Missing...

by DashingDiamondz on 5/1/13Newark Symphony Hall - Newark

This play was a great story and the performers were GREAT!!! The only thing missing was the music of Marvin Gaye. Zeola Gaye's account of her brother Marvin's life was great to see. I would recommend this play to all that I know.

    My Brother Marvin was GREAT!

by DebTill on 4/30/13Newark Symphony Hall - Newark

My Brother Marvin in my opinion was a huge SUCCESS! The play was very informative in terms of what really happened on that very sad day. Zeola Gaye was vey brave in telling the real story about how everything happened not to only Marvin but to everyone in the family during the years from the time they were children to the day Marvin was killed. The music brought back a lot of memories for my husband and myself in terms of how our moms (who are both deceased) would play Marvin Gaye and wake us up on Saturday mornings and you knew that it was time to clean up but most importantly to hear Marvin and dance/sing, laugh, and have good family time. KUDOS to everyone who had a hand in putting this play together. God Bless you all and may he watch over you on your continued travels to promote MY BROTHER MARVIN!

by Culturedone on 4/30/13Newark Symphony Hall - Newark

    My Brother Marvin

by SuzieQue1954 on 4/30/13Newark Symphony Hall - Newark

Disappointing without his music.Purpose of play given was to increase awareness of substance abuse. It missed the mark. What seemed more apparent was a mental illness issue with father, a domestic abuse issue with mother, and a trying to get paid issue with the sister for putting this play on.

    Wonderful show

by Darkover2001 on 4/29/13Newark Symphony Hall - Newark

It was quite something to see the real story so many years after his death. The cast was terrific. It was disappointing that they weren't able to use any of Marvin's songs that we have come to know and love. My only problem was I was unable to hear some of the dialogue, even though we had great seats. All in all, we enjoyed the show and I would certainly recommend it.

    No Marvin Gaye's Songs!

by Pajosia on 4/29/13Newark Symphony Hall - Newark

The storyline was good, nothing spectacular or new. The acting was good. The sound system was poor when the actors spoked. Very disappointed that none of Mr Gaye's songs were sang. Heard after the show from others that Zeola could not get the rights to use his songs. This was mainly why the people came. No one announced this to the audience. Supported because of the love I have for Marvin. He was truly a blessed singer.

    What a disappointment!

by Maria66 on 4/29/13Newark Symphony Hall - Newark

I am so disappointed with this show, especially after spending over $100.00 for tickets and traveling from Brooklyn, NY to Newark. The story is nothing different than what we already know....none of his songs were sang....the mic was not working.....and the little taste of marvin's song during intermission could barely be heard. The best part of my night was the bar...the drinks were great and the price was right!!! And a message to Zeola...when you came out, you said people were saying that you were exploiting your brother...well sister, you are. I know you probably need the money but you shouldn't even have thought about doing a play about your brother if you couldn't even get the rights to his songs.

    Poorly Written

by SterCrazy on 4/29/13Newark Symphony Hall - Newark

We drove from DC to Newark, NJ to see this play. The acoustics were poor which made it difficult to hear what the actors were saying. On top of the acoustics being poor, Marvin's story as true as it may have been was poorly written (with average AT BEST actors and dancers). I expected much more.
