It was a nice show, but not having his (Marvin Gaye) music was disappointing and the series of events was kind of choppy. But overall it still gets 1 thumb up.

    Marvin Story Shocker

I really enjoyed the show and would probably see it again at some point. I would have given it 5 stars but I missed not hearing Marvin's music!

    Marvin Gaye's Music

by FAnee on 5/29/13Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The talent, music and production was very good. The guy who played Marvin Sr. was very funny and Lynn Whitfield is one of my favorite actresses. The actor playing the role of Marvin Gayle as an adult has beautiful and smooth vocals. He was convincing in his role as Marvin Jr. That said, the one problem I had with the show was the inability of the performers to sing any of the songs that was recorded by Marvin Gaye. It was announced at the beginning of the show of a copyright problem. Ms. Gayle spoke at the close of the show about her failed attempts to acquire the use of Marvin Gaye's music for her production. I would not have purchased a ticket for this show if I had known this information in advance. Even though I was disappointed, I' am please to have been able to support performing arts by my attendance.

    My Brother Marvin was moving

by kelloy on 5/29/13Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention Center and Entertainment - Long Beach

Great show, Obviously from the heart as told by Marvin's sister in a series of vignettes. It was absolutely amazing that they pulled this off so well since they were not allowed to use Marvin's music.

My Brother Marvin Gaye was fantastic!

by Sweeteeee on 5/29/13Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention Center and Entertainment - Long Beach

The whole design for all of the scenes were great, and even though Mr. Gaye's personal songs were not able to be sung, the songs that were performed were excellent as well. I'm hoping that his sister, Zeola Gaye will continue to fight for what should be rightfully hers. She's already proven that "One Money Don't Stop No Show". BOOP!

Zeola Gaye Presents "My brother Marvin"

by Anonymous on 5/29/13Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

I was happy to see that the book I read (autobiography) was very close to Zeola Gaye's perspective. As close as it was, I still learned things about Marvin Gaye's life that I didn't know. The play was well cast, and song performances were amazing. Although we understood why, we truly missed the actual Marvin Gaye music.

    My Bro Marvin

by Anonymous on 5/29/13Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention Center and Entertainment - Long Beach

The play was great from what I could enjoy and see. Unfortunately the entire show we had people trapsing across us the entire time. I'm so use to venues closing off the doors until scene changes to allow people in so they do not disturb the actors as well as event goers. Due to this mishap in service I have to down grade the play score. I should have paid more money to see this at the Pantasias Theatre.

    My Brother Marvin

by Cutiepie238 on 5/28/13Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention Center and Entertainment - Long Beach

I bought these tickets for my mother and I, we were so excited up until we found out we would not be hearing any of Marvin Gaye's music. I felt like that was something that should have been disclosed upfront. The story line was poor taste why would she tell should a awful story about her parents and brother. We left half way through the play I was very disappointed and really want my $123 back!!

So disappointing in that not one Marvin Gaye song played coming in or going out...interesting insight of his family life. Would probably not bothered going, reading the book would have been much cheaper.

    NOT My Brother Marvin

by Disceived on 5/28/13Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention Center and Entertainment - Long Beach

Nothing in this was worth seeing! The disclaimer that Clifton Powell gave about not having song rights wasn't in the synopsis or reviews or I never would have purchased a ticket. This was just another low-budget gospel play. After waiting 2 hours for an intermission, I left. I couldn't stomach another moment.

My Brother Marvin a big dissapointment

by PlaysRgreat on 5/28/13Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention Center and Entertainment - Long Beach

The play was a big waste of time. Without any of Marvin's music in it, it was like the "big elephant in the room. It felt like a big gaping hole in the story. The play was too long, and the writing was trite and forgettable. The actors had good singing voices , good voices singing run of the mill songs. I had five friends with me and we all had the same opinion. I would not recommend this play to anyone.

    what happen to music?

by cpoori on 5/28/13Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention Center and Entertainment - Long Beach

did not enjoy play . How can you have a play about marvin gaye and not have any of his music. The play was billed as telling you the inside story of what happened that night but no new details or insight was given. my friend saw it 4 yrs ago in detroit and said it was much better because they could use marvins music, but without it it was a waste of my time and money.they announce at the start of play that do to legal issue the would not be able to use any of the motown marvin music. but they should have made the announcement at the time of selling you your ticket. that was a pretty shady move Zeola.

    A absolutely wonderful play!

by spen1 on 5/28/13Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

My Brother Marvin was such a terrific Play. It ran the emotional gamut from funny to tragic but the love was always stay intact. even though the bad times. The actors were so convincing that you almost felt as if you were intruding on the Gaye's family private matters. The singers were just marvelous. you felt the audience swaying hands clapping along to the music. a must see for any fan of Marvin Gay!

My Brother Marin where art thou music

by LOLTODAY on 5/28/13Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

I believe the play put too much emphasis on the life of Marvin's Gaye's father. Did the world need to know the truth about a man who had raised his children and was now dead? Although I loved Marvin Gaye, what about all the things he did wrong or did Zeola only think her Dad was a bad person. Let's lay blame on everyone concerned in this sage - Zeolaa just became sober in the last 11 years. Wow and you want to talk about your Dad's life as a cross-dresser and womanizer? And to top it off, no music of Marvin's played. Had that been "advertised," I wouldn't have wasted my time as I thought

I expected to hear someone performing Marvin Gaye's music. I felt a little cheated. If you were not allowed to use his music, I felt someone should have been up front and said so in ticket promotion. Honesty is the best policy. Might not be the most profitable, but still the best. The Actors/Actresses and dancers were fantastic. Marvin Gaye was who he was because of his music not because of his family. If I could only understand or appreciate why some songs were written or recorded. I left the theater feeling sorry for what happened to Marvin Gaye Jr and feeling sorry for his disfunctional family. But, who isn't disfunctional. Hiding behind disfunction,(religion) and jealously caused Marvin Gaye Jr untimely death.

This was the closure I needed

by dallind on 5/28/13Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

I really enjoyed the play but it was bittersweet. I had heard so many different stories as to what happened but now I finally feel like I've got some closure. I learned a lot about my favorite male singer and the music and vocals were awesome. This is one to see. It will keep you captivated.

    Riveting performances by all!

by Mtgsplace on 5/28/13Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention Center and Entertainment - Long Beach

Riveting performances! Powerfully talented singers, actors and dancers! Bitter sweet story telling! Fabulous set designs! Great band; Most disappointing and obvious; .the lack of Marvin's music!
