Lots of fun, well cast; actors did a great job and understood their roles. Took my 3 kids---14, 11, and 10---and they LOVED it.

An engaging take on a classic Shakespeare comedy. Fresh, without being ridiculously "modern"

Although the audience was slow to warm up, by show's end, we all left wanting more. The actors provided icing to the bard's cake. The story is fun and the actors obviously had fun performing it, therefore we had fun as well. Can't wait for more.... PS The chairs need more padding please.

  • Much Ado time well spent!!!

The professionalism of the players was a joy to watch. I thought of nothing else as I was drawn into the play. Every actor's part was played to her utmost ability and the entertainment was awesome. Cannot comprehend the command of the language that the players exhibited so effortlessly. Especially enjoyed the part of Benedict. His muscles rocked! A special treat for the ladies. Conrad, we noticed yours, too.

This was a wonderful production of my favorite Shakespeare play. The actors were so well matched and seemed to have a great time. I also loved the music between acts and meeting the cast afterwards was a treat. My only concern was the rather uncomfortable chairs. You could also hear some of the music from the Opera playing next door during the latter part of the play which was a little distracting. I will however go back as I appreciate the Richmond Shakespeare group so much and we are fortunate to have them in our community and the theatre is very nice.

Fantastic ensemble, directing and thoroughly enjoyed the "extra" entertainment. Everyone should see this play.

  • Much Ado About Nothing - really worth it!

This was my first Shakespeare play (really!) and I was pleasantly surprised! The cast did a fabulous job...very professional...very entertaining! And the new venue is beautiful.

Good production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing in a great small theater in downtown Richmond! Worth the trip from Fredericksburg. Would attend other plays by the same production company in the same place. The director was friendly and concerned that the audience was comfortable. Ticket prices are about at the max. but would still attend.

  • The Calf When It Bleats

by OrbitGum on 10/16/09Gottwald Playhouse at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 3 out of 5

Productions of Much Ado are usually far better remembered for their Beatrice and Benedick than for their Dogberry and Verges, but the Richmond Shakespeare company's leading man and lady found themselves rather upstaged by the comic hero of the play. Some elements of the show could certainly use some tightening up - like scene changes which, even in character, lasted far too long and some mid-line pauses which were less amusing than the actors seemed to think they would be - but overall it was an enjoyable production with a talented cast.

The cast of very talented actors, this excellent new venue, and the play itself deserve standing-room-only crowds everynight, and then a standing ovation. The small and intimate theater, and absence of loud cicadas and crickets, led to a very satisfying experience of the drama. We laughed out loud, and shed a tear, then smiled again till our cheeks hurt. Great job! Grant, keep up the good work! Hey nonny nonny!
